Well I watched this one AMV and got inspired to use the same song as it. And in the beginning, it shows a bunch of scenery which I liked, and I want to do the same but it feels like I'm sort of ripping from another creator. Do you think I should go with this idea, or attempt to do something different?

Honestly, I would say go for it. I think the idea of not stealing ideas is stupid; there are a lot of amvs on here that have to be rips of previous amvs.

We are constantly 'stealing ideas' without even noticing. If you really like the way the song goes with the anime, it should be fine
After all, you're doing it because you like the idea, not because you want to rip off the other AMV. The AMV creators shouldn't have any problem either.

Also, just make sure you 'confess' to it in the video description and give the original video some credit. Better yet tell the original editor, although really, I don't see this as an issue. I don't think anyone would have a problem with this, really - you know what they say about imitation being the best form of flattery, etc. I for one would be pretty damn stoked if someone took one of the songs/ideas/editing solutions I've done and did something different and possibly better with them.

In fact I'll subtly hint that I totally want people to do that for me. Please?
