  • Election 2004-06-29 19:32:27 I voted NDP in the Federal Election yesterday. The total seat results were:

    Liberal - 135
    "Conservative" - 99
    Bloc Quebecois - 54
    NDP - 19
    Independant - 1

A lot of people voted Liberal against their better judgement to keep Stephen Harper and his ilk out of office, thus preventing the NDP from holding a decent balance of power in the new minority government. But that's what happens when you have a first past the post system.

Thanks a lot, you guys. :/

  • Anime North 2004 2004-05-22 18:50:49 I went to Anime North yesterday. Unfortunately I won't be available to go there today or on Sunday, as the full con experience costs $45.00 Canadian. :( (It was forty last year....)

Ah, after all the anticipation, the denouement. I would say overall, the con was not quite as good as last year, but was still very fun nevertheless. The actually held it at a convention centre *and* a hotel, with the dealers room and artist's alley being at the convention centre. (*Not* the same place where the con in March was held) The problem with the convention hall was aesthetic: it looked utilitarian and dull. They shoulda held it all at a hotel, like last year.

Another problem was the absence of bargains. Well, not exactly, but the bargains were not as spectacular as last year or in March. I wanted to get the first DVD of Witch Hunter Robin or Utena but the former cost $40+ at every stand. (They had a Utena soundtrack for $25...maybe I shoulda got it...) I mean I did manage to get a $45 double DVD set for about $30 (or less, I don't remember exact price) at Anime North 2003. Another thing they didn't have was the Sailor Moon Card Game, which I sorely regretted not snapping up last year.

Artists Alley was better this year than last year, with many talented artists selling all sorts of stuff. They had one really beautiful girl who was selling chibi pics of Transformers - she actually had tattoos of Transformers on her arms!

Yes, there were many very beautiful girls this year - more so than last year. But unfortunately, neither *that* special girl, nor her friend were there. :( (There *was* a girl from my Anime Club who was *sort of* scoping me out however...)

After 10:00 pm I went to the Renaissance Hotel to check out what was going on there. Not much, but I did manage to watch some Live Action Sailor Moon. About midnight I went home. On the bus/subway were a group that coincidentally shared the bus I arrived at the con with, including a very beautiful and kawaii girl with purple streaks in her hair. (One of her friends recognized my AMV badge)

Spoils of the Convention: Neon Genesis Evangelion DVD 0:1, Love Hina manga vol. 1, GTO manga vol. 12. I bought the manga at Propyro's stand -got 10% off. :)
  • Another step forward 2004-05-19 20:51:20 Downloaded WMM2 yesterday...All this time I thought I had it, yet it was really WMM 1 point something. O_o I noticed this when I tried to install Danny Wilson's WMM filters (obtainable from the website of the WMM contest: see the Contests forum) and the Readme didn't make any sense...it does now and the filters are where they're supposed to be.

After Anime North (which is just a couple of days away!) is wrapped up I will start seriously experimenting with WMM.
  • Got first taste of Azumanga Daioh.... 2004-05-15 02:19:21 ....and it was pretty good, for an anime that was on drugs, if you know what I mean. Nice songs in it, too. I saw a few other things, since it was screening night at the ol' anime club. The Girl-with-Glasses (GWG) who resembles Asia Argento was not there though :(

I didn't win any prizes in the raffle, but Zack (a dude who spends obscene amounts of money of raffle tickets, and who thus wins multiple times per drawing) handed out some of his superfluous prizes and I was lucky enough to snag a Goku action figure.

It is beautiful outside in Toronto and the cherry blossoms are in bloom ^_^
  • People I Like on the Org, A-I 2004-05-10 01:07:42 Wow, a whopping *four hits*! This stuff ain't what it's cracked up to be.

As promised, here is the *first installment* of People I Like on the Org. I don't know when I'll do the others, as I don't want to make this a habit. I would really like to talk about things not related to this website. Anyways, here goes:

)v(ajin Koji - The only thing stopping me from joining his forum is the possibility that it might die again. (LIES!)

Anamorphic Productions - I actually don’t know that much about her, but the fact she’s gonna make an appearance at Anime North is enough for me to put her down here.

angelx03 (AKA darkchibi)- If you haven’t noticed this guy’s posts, what the hell are you doing here. This guy’s cool, as he’s always on the lookout for the latest, coolest things in anime. Y’know, the dude actually abstained posting for Lent? The Bane of Necroposters.

ansem'skitty - I like ansem’skitty a lot. Was one of the most entertaining posters in the OT/WOT era. Hopefully she will make a big comeback.

Arigatomyna (AKA Arigatomina) - Is a bit too much obsessed with yaoi and Yu Yu Hakushu for my taste, but Arigatomyna is cool anyway. Her avatar is usually of whom I call “The Chick from Yu Yu Hakusho”. A very good AMV maker. Was snubbed at the VCA though.

Azyne - Pissed off a lot of people in OT/WOT/AAM, which was strangely entertaining.

Beowulf - Made the best AMV I have thus far seen, Hypeodermic Studios’ Hail to the Thief.

BrsrkEva - He quoted me in his sig.

bubblehead - I don’t know what bubblehead is, but he/she is fairly amiable anyway.

Castor Troy - “I’d buy that for a dollar!”

CaTaClYsM - Annoyed pandas make good posters.

Clara Yuri Asaki - Runs a very cool forum known as the Shoujo-Ai Goddess Heavens. Does not usually appear on the Org though. In late 2003 was sandbagged in her own thread by a certain individual who shall remain nameless.

Cless - Otohiko’s brother, posted a well-known pic in Weird Screencaps. Met him at a con earlier this year.

Corran Productions - Actually can’t think up anything to say about him, but he’s alright.

Dannywilson - One of the two heads of the Hydra known as Demonseal. I few days ago while surfing the web, I found out what video game his former avatar came from.

David_Violence - Actually I have no real idea who this guy is, but what a cool name!

dogger - Used to stand out more before he changed his avatar.

dokidoki - His infamous Cardcaptors AMV was played for the anime club I’m at, and the audience demanded (and got) an encore!

Farmboybob - Anyone seen him cosplaying as Gendo? (I kid.)

flint_the_dwarf - Jesus H. Christ: The Son of Man. CJesus: The Son of :? .

flora3535 - Gets points for being a better n00b than people who are a few years older than her and yet wind up being complete asses.

fyrtenheimer - People have a weird penis fixation about her for some reason. The Mistress of Minimalism. The Gertrude Stein of the Org. Made a very funny spanish language AMV.

gadoo - Ever been to her website?

Hikari88 & Vixen Star - I can’t think of these two as separate for some reason.

Hitori - The God of Screencaps.

InSaNe KeYbLaDeR - I don’t know what she has done to become so reviled, nor do I particularly care. I like IK because she says, or used to say, bizarre and entertaining things. Her gonzo quest for dwchang’s and trythil’s undergarments is also strangely compelling.

ithaqua - Actually better known on Demonseal than here, and damned if I have to tell you why.
