oh my god, I'm down in this hole again....
2002-02-02 03:12:52
while Matt reviews (much better than I ever could) movies.. I figured I'd drop a Concert review on here since I just got back from it a few hours ago and had an excellent time.....
I just got back from the Machine Head, Darwins Waiting Room and Low Z show... It was supposed to be Machine head, Dope, DWR and 3rd Strike... but 3rd Strike and Dope didn't show... guess i shoulda known about that ahead of time.. anyway..
heres how it went.. what was good and what you should check out...
First was Low Z... I've never heard of this band before... They are local Atlanta Band but you can find them on mp3.com
They rocked my fucking socks off....
You would like them if you like bands like Fear The Clown or Systematic... they really remind me of Systematic the most.. but they are uniquely their own... worth checking out or buying their cd when it comes out... I'm on their mailing list now so I'll keep you all informed when I hear more about them. I do feel this was kind of the wrong forum for them.. They are mostly guitar driven music thats very in touch with all its feelings.. the crowd was mostly in touch with its anger at the moment and about half way through the set several people were yelling "ANGRY MUSIC MOTHERFUCKERS!!"" and various other comments along those lines... This was also apparent during the 10 minute long mostly instrumental track that was also slow... yeah.. some pissed off metal fans.. I was damn pleased...
Next was
Darwins Waiting Room
This was my second time seeing DWR live (and the second time they have put me on their guest list so that I was able to get in for free...
The best news was that DWR will be on OZZFEST 2002 this year!!!
hell yeah.... you heard it here first folks.. ;)
DWR is similar to Nonpoint, Dislocated Styles and or Bionic Jive.
I met the lead singer again.. thanked him for getting me in for free and told him how much we liked the show (My sister went and got in free as well... )... he kissed my sister after she told him how much she liked the show.. err... yeah.. she liked his dreadlocks alot... argh..
anyway... they were incredible... thei rock/punk version of Back that ass up (previously by the cash $$ millionaires) is always an incredible sonic experience (its been retitled "Mario Andretti... Bus driver man").
Machine Head
I have never seen machine head live... now I don't know how i ever listened to their cds without hearing them live... wow... jesus they are just so much full of energy, insanity and emotion... its a great live show.. alternating between guitar, drum and lyric driven their songs are all just so damn addictive..
overall if you get a chance to see this show you should... All the bands are incredible and put on a quality sonic orgy that will make the most jaded of music fans wanna crank out some cash for new cds... ;)
overall I give the show a 8 outta 10... I'm a tough critic when it comes down to it so yeah.. wOOt!

"Walking off as I travel > Challenging one and all > deeper into the battles > a ronin standing tall.... the more evolving changes> the more we stay the same > full steam against the odds go > head first against the grain!!!"
god that song is incredible...
Full week ahead..
Tommorow is my Girlfriends birthday... So we are hanging out, going out to dinner.. maybe I'll take her shopping... window shopping since I have a severe deficite of cash at the moment...
Thursday is another full day of classes and i may be meeting that guy for that job offer.... video editing for money just seems so tempting and at the same time so unattainable... our previous meetings have been scrapped due to him forgetting about a project and having to rush these last few days... plus he is going to the superbowl for that party that he is filming.... so hes gonna be outta town this weekend so if nothing else I may have to wait till next week to meet with him. damn..
Friday I am going to a concert featuring the band that I quoted those few lines from...
the lineup is as follows...
Machine Head
Darwins Waiting Room
and
3rd Strike.
damn thats gonna be a great show.. the band who I quoted earlier is Machine head from the song "bulldozer"....
the only problem with friday? I am on the Guestlist of one of the bands (DWR) and I am written down as having one guest... but do I have a guest to take? NOPE!
My GF is already going to a concert (her sisters are taking her as a birthday present) so I'm going to this show without a +1.... friends are all in various stages of out of town and unavailable...
bah!
oh well... anyone in the Downtown Atlanta area wanna go? heh... email me or something... ticket is completely free.... as its on the bands tab.. ;)
A chance to see three bands that are up and coming in a sense and will be very popular soon if my ideas about what the general public likes to suck dry remain constant....

I try to talk to you, can't get past the weather, friend I thought I knew, from something somewhere better....

hmm.. lyric quotes rock.... ;)
anyways...
I showed my Finished key video (I missed a pop frame dammit!) and got some great response...
is it gonna be a great video? eh no.. its fun though... creepy...
its all about mood and a little story.. I think my timing is really nicely done on this as opposed to my earlier videos where I haven't really considered fine timing.... yeah.. I timed parts where I had no lyrical equivalent...
but yeah..
I know it probably seems ridiculous that I wasn't thinking like this on even some of my more recent videos... the reviews I have gotten on my Kenshin Touched video seriously helped me reconsider what I was focusing on.... but I think I'm still focusing on what I've always thought was paramount.
ah well... yeah.. really boring entry onto this journal.. mostly for me to clear some space in my head...
I gotta go back and clean up the mpeg, make a final copy and get it uploaded....
also I have to figure out why our damn anti leech software is going ape shit.... its refusing alot of connections straight from the site saying "you can only download from OTaku Vengeance.com" but people are directly clicking on the link from the site... wierd stuff...

damn it feels good to be a gangsta......

Got a call this morning from someone offering me a job....
A video editing job...
HEH!
I talked to this guy about 2 years ago... maybe it was less time but basically its been a long time since I've even thought about it... He was just starting his company at the time and was doing whatever jobs, commercials and stuff that he could crank out.... but he had no real work for me.... the project he was asking me to work on fell through and I just stopped thinking about it....
then outta the blue he gives me that call this morning... yay! He still remembered my videos from when we first talked and now he needs help. Hes got several videos games hes editing footage for, a super bowl party thats gonna be attended by broadcast crews from MTV and BET. Hes working for the promotional company throwing the party (limp bizkit will be there.. hehe) and the company wants a commercial with their party that they can show investors or something similar.. yay! anyways.. plus hes contracting with the city of atlanta (bidding on the contract) for a $200,000 a year contract for video stuff... if he gets that he will need me full time and if not he will need me sporadically to keep his head above water.. plus this is a chance for me to learn some 3d Studio Max in a real world situation.
hot damn.. yeah.. I'm meeting him on Monday to talk about cash and when he will need me...
In other news I started my first Stone Carved sculpture last Thursday... I carved a lot.. its so much fun and yet its incredibly difficult. I was having so much fun I didn't realize it but I carved untill my hand would no longer hold the 3 lb hammer I'm using to hit the chisels... :) Its a 200lb block of limestone (easier to carve than say marble especially for someone just starting out). Luckily on that it was something that the school had enough excess of that they could let me use it without buying it... IF I can pull of this sculpture I'll be so happy... I'll definitely post pictures when I'm done but maybe I'll post pictures of my progress..
;)

Studio KZ....

A friend of the family (IE. My parents have known his parents since before I was born) was in the unit involved in Black hawk down....
Luckily he wasn't in on that mission as he had already become disenchanted with the whole army thing (He was a sniper for the unit).
After following this Warlord around for a long time.... watching him oversee and commit various attrocities he then found out through the news that the US government had "No Idea" where the warlord was.... cause they would arrest him if they did right?
yeah..
so he was pissed about that.. plus some friends of his were killed and he knew of other people being killed.... but on the news? Nope... no americans killed as of yet...
Basically he had a bit of a nervous breakdown or something like that and left... after a few failed years of jobs hes back in the service now... but hes in Hawaii Now... heh.. very smart since if he was gonna go back to his unit they were stationed in Alaska.... of course now they are in Afganistan..
anyway.. yeah... I'm just glad I'm not in any situation military involved...
mad props to you for going for it...
::::did I just say "mad props"?::::
ah man I did.....
