JOURNAL: Lord Rae (Jimmy )

  • My aching wallet.... 2001-10-23 21:37:15 heh... went a bit overboard on purchases today...

    Cds
Bionic Jive - Armageddon through your speakers
The Who - Who's Next(digitally remastered best of)
Enigma - LSD (Love, Sensuality, and devotion) best of
    Machine Head - Supercharger
Handsome Devil - Love and Kisses from the underground
OneSideZero - Is this room getting smaller
    187 - Furious
Incubus - Morning View (had this cd for a few months now but its good to get a official version that will work on my cd alarm clock... )

    DVDS
Final Fantasy (much like Hsien I fell victim to it saying final fantasy despite knowing the contents were not more than eye candy...)
Lord Of Illusions (special edition) ahh.. the classics
Road Trip (uncensored) when I watch this movie I can feel my brain running down my spinal cord.... maybe thats why its still enjoyable...

ahh.. so what do all these purchases mean? well not much except that since I now have a digitally remasterd version of the Who song I need I can get to capturing that footage I'll need... damn all those clips over 8 dvds.... Capturing should take like 2...maybe 3 weeks if I get real bogged down with school and work... but the video itself should fall together fairly quick....
this Key video I already have started on is just taking forever... maybe I'll change my editing that I started...... I'm not sure I'm really in love with this visual effect and its taking forever choosing the frames and clips....

ahh.. halloween music... Eclectic halloween stuff... Thank you Jaquie (www.Ewhore.com)
metal, old school 80's, and everything in between including "this is halloween" from the Nightmare before Christmas... I wish Jaquie would bring back Ewhore in full swing.... she always makes some cool statments and pulls up those truly bizarre news stories I never have the time to search for on my own.. hehe..
  • DAAAAYYYYYOOOO............. 2001-10-22 16:23:32 after that reading intensive post last night I figured I'd post a few craptacular pics I took... just digital camera stuff... ;) nothing fancy or artistic..

thats me last night while working on that philosophy paper... ahh.. the joys of finding common threads between Thales,Anaximander,Aniximenes, Xenophanes, Pythagoras, Herakeitos, and Parmenides and making all that work over the course of 8-10 pages.

thats my new dvd shelving thing... yay! finally have enough room that I don't have them stacked all over theplace.... the bad news... it sits at the footboard of my bed....

    http://lordrae.hosting4less.com/temp/sidevw.jpg

those two are pictures of my wood scultpure I've been slaving over.. carving outta wood takes forever... specially trying to get the shapes I was going for... the piece isn't that big. 12-14 inches at its tallest points but its gonna make a nice wall hanging when I get it completely done (only have to use a router and make a place for me to hang it up) when I get it hung up I'll post another pic cause those pictures (especially the front view) doesn't show a damn bit of detail that I put into it.... but enjoy lookin... ;)

  • When someone asks you if your a god you say "YES!!!!" 2001-10-22 04:12:31 Well its nearly 4 am here... philosophy paper has stalled.... at least Wood sculpture and this horrible throat/head infection are done with.... I finish up the last of these hardcore antibiotics tommorow..... yay! I like feeling better. Basically I get sick once a year and this was it hopefully...

why the title topic? hmmmm well theres a bit of interesting stuff going on around the Otaku Vengeance camp.... I don't particularly know if any other creators have experienced this either so its really odd..

Infinitum asked somewhat recently if he could redo one of my old dbz videos.... out of all of them this one remains somewhat well known and popular like 2 years or more after I made it despite me stopping the official distribution of it when I joined with Eric and Vig to create Otaku Vengeance. So now someone has gone back and taken my video (its craptacular!) and made it somewhat respectable. no more subtitles... and even though the footage I used was praised at the time for being high quality its hardly a commercial release quality video.... plus the original is only available in realplayer... so now Infinitum has made the remake... titled it "hail lord rae" and dropped the mpeg on the unsuspecting public. I still wretch in a few spots at where I could have done more had I not been so lazy.... but even then you can get a view of my style in its early form.... so if your a fan of mine well.. give it a look... its good for laughs if nothing else and Infinitum worked pretty damn hard on something he can't really claim all that much as being his. He has the video entered here now... (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/video.php?v=3676)
The other main half of OV (well third if vig would get off his ass and work more ;Þ) is Eric.... One of Eric's old videos and the first one that really made me notice him as being a truely talented editor was his Piccolo VS 17 video. I'd been watching his stuff since we started out since we started somewhat around the same time. But this was pure adrenaline... no story.. just some decent beat matching and stuff.. this was actully the only video that ever gave me a surge of energy that made me wanna start breaking crap all over my house after watching it... the video was popular enough that the band (fairly unknown) hosted and still is hosting the rm file of the video on thier website.....
so anyway shortly after Infinitum had retained my permission to do the remake of my video Eric recieved notice of someone redoing his Picc vs 17 video in high quality and mpeg format. Its really great seeing this again as this guy even fixed up a beat or two eric missed when converting from the original editing program he was using...

so my question is... have any other creators had people remake their work? it seems really odd that with neither of us haveing won any contests, or really being that well known in the amv world that two creators have taken thier time to remake our videos in quality we didn't have access to. Just the time it would have taken to sync up something exactly as it was... I'm just humbled and was hoping maybe one of the other creators out there has had this experience... it just seems odd that someone has done it for me AND a studio member of mine but no one else...

I don't even know what i'm asking but well...
..... go back 2 years to when DBZ vids were not the overpopulated mass they are now and they actually had good videos coming out using dbz....

I sucked... well I didn't suck.. I had a few really good ideas that got me fairly well known (a sappy dbz video set to a then unknown group Incubus's song "the Warmth" comes to mind.... ) soon after my dbz vids got a bit well known I started getting into other animes as the ideas came.... Berserk, Flame of Recca, Bastard, EVA, ect ect ect... still dbz vids were the 800 lb gorrilla though... there were not that many sites.... and aside from being occasionally dazzled by videos from Brad demoss, Hsien, ect. I was secure in the fact that my early videos were not that bad.. they were not random footage tossed to music because I had a plot... lol..

well my dbz vids generally were a one fight video.. that way if I found a way to manipulate the clips to somewhat or to actually fit the lyrics and the scenes remained aroun the same period in the show then I wasn't doing random stuff to music... well its pretty random at points looking back now... At least in those first 6 or 7 videos. I was just following the dbz storyline with the exception of the video set to the warmth.... I tweaked the story there to fit the song... which can you believe I actually got complaints for not following what actually happened in a general fight? argh!

I think thats when the dbz only fans intelligence level dropped around 30 points in my book..I also decided I needed to work more on expanding my anime horizons so that i could do more videos.
now granted I still enjoy somewhat dbz.. its anime.. its popular.. its something to kill time and still funny in moments... but the fans who ONLY like dbz are the ones you just want to strangle with a piece of high tension wire...

why did I write all that out? dunno... guess I'm trying to give you all more of a view into my past and the expeirences I bring with me to the table.
  • Akimbo 2001-10-18 18:28:15 your not gonna dredg up my horrible dbz past are you?

hehe.. nah their are a few old videos I still like but even if I dont' like a vid I'll gladly answer any question you got..

    drop me a line Akimbo...
  • still sick.. but actually inspired.... 2001-10-18 12:50:27 so In between coughing up yellow/orange/green phlemm I've felt somewhat inspired to work on this video... and damn.. i feel uneasy already..

not that I don't think people will like it (I KNOW people won't like it) but its slightly creepy... hell its downright disturbing...

ok ok.. Uses Key The metal Idol... but its not disturbing in the way that Williams (alluminum studios) Key video is....

this is more kind of an uneasy creepy-don't watch it in the dark- tpye thing...

    maybe its just the song...

hmm the only thing I can compare it to is my old Lain video that was six and a half minutes long and used the song "Animosity" by Klank... well the remix of Animosity..... that video had plenty of disturbing stuff set to very slow prodding lyrics...
This Key video will have no lyrics (except for the last 30 seconds of the song).... but the song IS slow and prodding...

too bad that Lain video I did was pretty technically bad.. I really liked it... still do.. ah well.. maybe I will go back and enter all those old videos of mine into amv.org...
