JOURNAL: benjamingeiger (Benjamin Geiger)

  • More of the same... nothing. 2004-11-12 02:56:06 Yep. Me again, breaking my silence and letting y'all know I'm not dead.

School's incredibly busy. I mean asininely busy. I barely have time to scratch myself between classes and projects (oh, and work, which is also at school... I'm a "teaching assistant").

RADP-9 [1] is coming up, and I'm hoping to have a video ready for it. Like my last one [2], it won't be an AMV (it's a Disney fan group, after all) but whatever. I'm having fun.

For those of you that care: it's "Beauty and the Beast" set to "Harder to Breathe" by Maroon 5. For those of you that don't care: Why the hell did you read this?

I wish I could afford anime DVDs or knew where to find raw source... I haven't been able to visit Go Orlando [3], and so haven't had a chance to borrow any DVDs.

  • Creative Procrastination 2004-04-17 14:33:40 I'm writing this to take a break from my Software Engineering project and two final papers due.

Yes, it's end-of-the-semester time here, and I'm up to my naughty bits in schoolwork, so I haven't had time to do anything AMV related. But the good news is that I have access to volume 4 of Initial D, so I can finally make my first real AMV once the term ends in a week or so...
  • Ideas and Lack of Time 2004-03-05 04:44:07 Sheesh. No time for anything anymore. And as if that's not bad enough, I'm going to have to send this Powerbook in to Applecare. White spots. Again. Geesh.

Got a few ideas bouncing around, but nothing viable... yet. I'll be able to complete my Initial D video once volume 4 is out. Good comedy stuff, but I won't reveal the song yet for fear of ruining the punchline (or having someone steal the idea). You'll just have to wait and see.

I'm also pondering a GTO video, to the song "Lonesome Loser". Fitting, ne? "Have you heard about the lonesome loser, beaten by the Queen of Hearts every time...." Onizuka gets snubbed enough...

Another Initial D video idea: "I'm In A Hurry (And Don't Know Why)", by Alabama. Yes, it's country music. Got a problem with that?

There are so many good songs floating around that are just begging to be paired with a good anime... but most of them are just too damned long. "Free Bird" jumps to mind. (Someone made a FFVIII video to that song. I didn't know there was 9 minutes of FMV in that game.)

Got a few more ideas that I haven't fleshed out enough to share quite yet.
  • Video #2 2004-01-07 00:33:38 My first video was completed and uploaded some time ago.

Anyway, now I can get down to the serious business of making a *real* AMV. I think I have a vague idea of where it's going to go, and the rest is just finding the right source...
  • Almost done... 2003-12-08 18:17:38 My first, non-anime video is nearing completion.

A couple of days ago, one of the creators I look up to said something very true: "There's nothing like a deadline to get you to finish a video."

This is even true with self-imposed deadlines.

For example, I promised myself that I'd get this video done in time to show off at "MouseFest 2003", a gathering of Disney fans from around the world. Tomorrow is the last day, and I might squeeze by.

Granted, what I show won't be the polished version I had hoped for, but at least it'll be something to be proud of, even if some of the transitions are off sync, etc. I'm rendering a preview version as we speak. Only 30 seconds of dead air left, and it's at the end. And after that, only the closing bumper remains. Joy.

Once it's done, I'll enter it into the catalog, though I don't know if I'm allowed to put it on the Donut. I have other hosting, though, so it's not a major concern.
