I like this song, and I like this anime. So, it's natural to put them together. And it's working really well. But....I don't know. Romance AMVs aren't my cup of tea when I watch them, and making one seems to be no different....but I still might finish this one, one day. Mebbe if romance finds me again, I'm a bit romanced out still from my last foray into the world of the opposite sex...

The tenative title for this one was LAIN DOES DANCE! but I soon found out...no, she doesn't. :) 0:24 into this 50 fps experiment (yes, 50 fps), and I've discoved three things.
a) Lain DOES NOT DANCE! (I should have known that.)
b) I much prefer making comedic AMVs to dance ones (as already into the :24 secs I start adding my weird overlays, and randomly resubbing the thing)
c) 50 fps editing is stupid. (The human eye can't follow the changes, it makes the file really big, and there are now 50 frames to get to that next second than the usual 24 or 30...so it feels like no forward progress is being made.)
So, I'm scrapping this and retooling it in the direction the comedic elements were going in the first place. AT 24 FPS mind you. :)

I'm hammering the final nails into Lain's coffin. I want to get every idea for Lain out of my head so I can delete the .vobs and move on...:)
This one, like most of my AMV ideas, came to me in my car. Now, I learned some things here as well....
a) The radio edited version is about 6 minutes long. The REAL version is 11:14 or so...but MY version is only 3:58 and I think it still does the song full justice, while cutting out parts that would be really hard to sync with Lain (not that the rest of the lyrics are a joyride...). Thanks you Adobe for putting fairly decent sound editing tools into Pro 1.5.
b) I gotta stop having ideas that are beyond me. I need to find a niche. I'm too dang lazy to be this creative...
Even though the effects for this one might be beyond me, I think I can still pull it off. Lain as uber-Goth. It just might work.
I might as well go ahead and reveal a couple of plotted effects for this one to you, my only reader of this journal *crickets*. Oh, okay, then I'll reveal it to myself.... A transition I want to use goes as such (probably timed to the choruses' "Black, black, black, black number one")
a)Lain in normal unaltered pose, freeze framed (or not, depends on my mood and how much work I want to do)
b)The tricky part. I found a picture of a Richmond Hair Dye No. 1 bottle (on eBay, no less). The lazy way would be to pan the picture across here. The uber-effect way is to use POV-Ray (a freeware 3D modeling and rendering tool) to render me up a bottle of the stuff and rotate it across the screen. The uber-UBER effect way is to somehow serve the frames of the animation to POV-Ray so the glass bottle refracts the picture as it rotates across it....that's gonna take some helpfile reading, though.
c)On the other side of the bottle, the same scene, but now, Lain is dressed in Goth black clothing, with black hair, little Saturn earrings and all the trappings. Not impossible to GIMP, but definitely a bit beyond my skill. A worthy opponent....
I also must confess that I'm heavily stealing that idea straight from Absolute Destiny's Boys video from whichever DDR it was in (2, I think...). In that one he made Murakai (sp) from Decendants of Darkness into a pink lipstick wearing
crossdresser. So let it be stolen, so let it be done. :)
We'll see which method I use, of if I even do this one. I'd like to get it done before Halloween, though....:)

Song: Marilyn Manson - "Personal Jesus"
Song is short, and it has good potential for a Deus character profile. I'm gonna try to fit this into the 'side character challenge' guidelines and have it have NO Lain at all. Difficult...but possible. Focus will be on Deus and Lain's sister (obvious lyric syncs abound this way).
Distechnia....weird idea. Use "Kalpol Intro." Edit it the prayer from "Enter Sandman" to make a beginning. Edit in the ending from "Obligatory Part 2 Song..." to make a ending. This makes the song a bit longer, and gives a more thematic feel to the song (as in it's original form, it's only meant as a lead-in to "Bike"). May or may not do this....I'd like to finish one of my other videos first.
Speaking of them: Evil Plans of Formalhaut may or may not get done this weekend! Yay! I think I've solidified the concept well enogh to finish it. Empty Beaches....it's the lipsync. Once I get that done, then the rest of the video is MAD-like backgroud effects on the still image backgrounds to time with the piano (I have a slightly different idea on 'piano keys' that may or may not work). - blah 2004-08-17 19:54:36 just making the front page look right....:)

Since the local record shop doesn't seem to want to order crazy British IDM music for me, I might end up having to get it online. No big loss. Gonna halt the progress on Distechnia, though. So, onto another video....:)

A Nadesico romance AMV is something this site sorely lacks (by the Super Search, there are 11 "Romance" videos containing Nadesico, and only three full Nadesico...of course, this won't be full Nadesico, either)
Not sure if I can do it or not, but I'm going to try. It's my gift to the cool Portugeuse creators on this site (particularly, but not only, 7sigma and Paulo).
