only fools rush in...

Gah, I can't believe that I'm already at 2:42 on my video, after just a few days of editing! I also can't believe that that marks only the halfway point ;_; And the second half will probably take 3 or 4 times longer than the first half.
Anyway...the prospects of that video making it to AWA Pro are just about nil now. I'd have to get it done within the next week, what with Leandra coming up and all...also, I have a soiree to attend Sunday afternoon/evening, and the slow trickle of my out-of-town friends arriving at my apartment for Otakon begins on Tuesday afternoon. Then there's kendo on Mondays and Wednesdays. So...there goes most of my time for the next week or so. Basically, what I get done by this Sunday morning is about the extent of the progress that I'm going to have time to make in the next 2-3 weeks. Ah well. Talked to Jason Salce last night, sounds like both of us are locking ourselves at home this weekend to do some hardcore editing :)
I actually like this video enough now that I want to enter it in AWA Masters. But I promised that I wouldn't, so I won't.
Oh, and just so you know, THESE are the people who are building the nation's military radars to keep everyone safe from terrorists:
Chris (guy in next cube): Hey Mike, you going on a date this weekend?
Mike (my cubemate): Yeah. With Wayne's mom.
Wayne (Chris' cubemate): I thought she only went out on the weekdays!
Bwahahahaha.

i feel the pain of everyone...then i feel nothing...

The plane tickets have been purchased! Leandra's staying with her sister Charlene at Duke, and when they come up for Otakon, she's staying with me for a week after...we're going to try and make a video together and release it anonymously, or under fake names.
I'm thinking now that there might be a half-melted snowball's chance in hell that if I really work my ass off this coming week, I can get my current video done in time for Pro. I've never even considered entering this video in Pro before, though. And now that I think about it...it's 5:30 long, it's meandering and somewhat freeform, and it spans about 4 genres -- and it's remarkably simple. All of which means, of course, that it would never get nominated, and thus not get shown at the contest. Oh well. I don't think I can go back to editing Sappy Self-Indulgence in time for the deadline anyway...the current video is going really well, and I feel like I'm totally on a roll. So I'm going to work on this one til it's done and then go back to SSI.
I briefly fancied the idea of a video to a Dinosaur Jr. song, but then decided it wouldn't be worth the pain.
To what depths has the American workplace sunken? Each person in my office has a trash can in their cubicle. We just moved to a newer section of the building, so we all got new trash cans. Earlier this week, there was a rash of trash can thefts in our department, in which a bunch of the new trash cans got magically replaced with old, crappy ones overnight. My project lead had a bunch of extra new ones in his office, so he passed them out to people who had theirs stolen. Next day, THOSE were also replaced with old, crappy ones. While I was talking to one of the senior engineers about a design issue I was having, he was busy carving his name into his trash can with scissors the entire time I was talking to him.
So yesterday my boss called security over, and they put tags on all of our new trash cans so they couldn't get taken...and now our doors have to be locked at night so people from other departments (same company, same building, for god's sake!) don't come and steal our trash cans.
This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time.
Hm. I got up out of my desk and left my cube to go out and get some Thai takeout. Somehow I wound up in the cafeteria instead, so here I am with some fries and a blue cheese chicken sandwich. Just not the same...but when you're lazy, you're lazy.

HO-LEE SHEE-IT! 1:21 into current video, and I actually LIKE it! Back to editing.

gambitt: Ahhh, no, Brad didn't go AWOL this year! He just "appointed" me to take care of some of the administrative duties, he's still very much the head cheese :) Didn't want to get the wrong impression out...
Anyway, uh...if you're there, I might show my track at a creator gathering at Otakon or something, but I'd rather keep the tracks mostly private til the premiere of the whole thing :)
EK: Heh, none of mine are "wrong" exactly, just BAD. You know, the kind where the audience can't even muster a polite boo :D

chased the charmed, but I don't want them anymore...

Eh...I woke up at 6 am today, depressed about something stupid. Instead of going back to sleep, I came into work two hours early. Now I'm tired as a mofo. At least I get to go home early.
Anyway...did about 40 seconds worth of editing last night, which for me is a rather remarkable feat nowadays. I'm probably going to change about 30 seconds of it, though :P On an up note, I did finally lay down the part that EK did for me...and I have to say, it looks fucking fantastic. I watched it like 10 times before I came into work this morning.
I really really really really don't want to drop out of AWA Pro, but word's still out on whether or not I will. Depends on how tenacious and resilient to embarassment I am :P I feel guilty having a panel at AWA, having made nothing noteworthy in over a year.
Jeff (gambitt) - Brad deserves the credit for putting the first project together, not me. A lot of the less stellar tracks were done in a couple of days or hours, because some editors signed up and were never heard from again, or told us, "Erm, by the way, I don't have time to do my track" two weeks before the convention. That's why I've had to be the bad guy this year and set strict deadlines and rules -_-
And: "fast edits, movement and flashy colors" -- well, that's pretty much ALL my DDR2 video has, but it's still pretty blah. I did work hard on it, though.
I want WarCraft III! I feel so left out ;_; Oh well, I'll have it in a week and a half.
