  • Five hundred sixteenth entry - what the hell? 2013-01-27 21:41:34 Time - 8:34, Noise - the wheels turning in my head

I am getting really goddamn annoyed. I'm uploading my Let's Play videos to YouTube, and totally at random, it decided to crop one of them! I purposely left black bars on this set so that my face camera would be as out-of-the-way as possible, and YT decided to crop them out, taking half of my face with it! I can still see the original uncropped version when I go into the edit menu, so I know that it didn't permanently change my original upload, but... why? What's going on?

I have searched YouTube's data base and Google, and all I can come up with are noobs asking how to remove black bars and not, "Why the fuck is YT trying to alter my video without my permission?"

It's the only one of the four that I've uploaded so far that has this problem, and the technical process was literally identical for the last three videos.

Does anyone know how to unset this? It's driving me crazy.

    See you, folks.

  • Five hundred fifteenth entry - back to the drawing board 2013-01-23 14:07:19 Time - 12:17, Noise - silence

Well, that didn't work. Five hours of rendering for a 5.9 GB file that was just garbled rainbow lines. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I tried encoding it straight from the editing program and that worked just fine. There's really not a noticeable difference in the video quality as there would have been had I used Zarx's program, so I'm not worried about it. Besides, if my rendering time can be cut down from five hours to about forty minutes, I'm definitely okay with that, not to mention dropping a 5.9 GB file to 432 MBs.

  • Five hundred fourteenth entry - the labors of geeks 2013-01-23 02:29:22 Time - 1:12, Noise - Pendulum - "Propane Nightmares"

lulz, I guess this is what I get for being geeky. My Let's Play video is finally at the last encode and the ETA is about... five hours. Looks like Ulty's leaving the compy on all night tonight.

I know that's nothing compared to some of your AMVs out there, but I haven't seen an encode that long since... well, since I was encoding Saikano episodes. Each one took five hours. Of course, I had the benefit back then of just setting it and going away to my classes for a few hours. I was pretty diligent about it, too, and I got the whole series encoded in a couple of days.

Now, I generally don't think to do this kind of stuff before a day of work (or more accurately, I have no desire to do so). I shudder to think that I'll be doing this for every video. Although, it's not so bad now. I got through the myriad of new programs I had to download to make this first video, and now that I have a rough idea of what needs done, at least the pre-processing will go more quickly.

I never saw the lossless video (it crashed every player I have, except MPC, which was kind enough to play the audio at least), so I'm crossing my fingers that all is well in the digital netherspace, and when this thing is finished, I'll have a lovely encoded video to be uploaded to YouTube.

I really hope DmC Devil May Cry is worth this effort. At least the whole world will be able to appreciate the expression on my face if it sucks.

    See you, folks.

  • Five hundred thirteenth entry - this is why I stopped believing in Santa 2013-01-10 15:15:23 Time - 2:05, Noise - Final Fantasy XIII-2 OST

Here I thought the Technology Fairy had heard my wishes and brought me a decent editing program for free, and my hopes get all dashed away just like that.

Oh well. Looks like I need to buy an upgrade for Magix. The last version I used was 12, and I really liked that, but some of the reviews I have read about 17 (the newest version that's actually affordable to me) have been discouraging. They've been harping on about issues with basic functionality, like inaccurate cuts or faulty playback. I mean, I can handle if something extraneous like the special effects don't work properly - they're cheesy in most programs and I don't use them anyhow - but if simple editing is getting cockblocked by the program's shortcomings, then we've got a problem.

Anybody have firsthand experience that they'd like to share with me?

    See you, folks.

Today, I'm doing the only thing proven to put a smile on my face, no matter how bad I am feeling.

    Star Wars marathon.

May the Force be with you, folks.
