  • Four hundred first entry - 10015 hits 2007-12-31 02:44:37 Time - 12:59, Noise - Explosions in the Sky - "The Only Moment We Were Alone"

Yup. Finally broke 10000 hits on my journal. Fun timez. So about every four hundred entries I'll get another 10000 hits, then? o_O Right-o.

If you have any music that you would like to submit, please do so soon, whether or not you wanted to edit for the project. I could use all of the submissions I can get, especially since I've gotten very few at this point.

I haven't touched my next video since I got home (and yes, I'm now home for a month for winter break between semesters), and I'm beginning to wonder if I should edit anything. I mean, I'm going to try to transfer everything over to the laptop once I get my external HD, and I'm just concerned that I'm going to end up screwing up filepaths and other stuff when I do the transfer. Right now, my video is barely started, so it would be easy to take over to the lappy, and if I have to re-edit something, no big deal. Didn't have much done anyway.

Of course, this is where my mother gets pissy. The lappy has eighty gigs. She doesn't understand why I, with a 250 gig HD on the compy, can't use eighty gigs. This will sound crass, but seriously... once you've upgraded, you can't downgrade again. I can only have my HD either staying the same size or getting bigger. Not smaller. Ever. I've acquired too much stuff to crop down my collection after an upgrade. So I need an external HD of at least 250 gigs, which is easy enough to find these days. If I had that and a DVD recorder, I'd have all the aspects of my compy covered, really. I could switch over to the lappy permanently. I can live without the DVD recorder (they're expensive anyway), but if I get the ext-HD, I can use it at college and leave this huge clunky compy at home. That would be nice in a lot of ways.

Gotta get my passport for Spain this month. Well, I have to get it started processing, anyway. All this money for a little book that says, "Hey, it's okay if she's in our country for a while." Not like I'm going to use the passport ever again after this either. Being a translator, I suppose maybe I might use it again, but still... it's so much money for something I can't guarantee I'll need after the fact.

Oh, so the shorthand version of what I put in my LJ... I was terrified of my grades this semester. My classes did not go well, to say the least, and I thought my GPA was done for. But the grades came in last night... and I got two A's (French, Band), two B's (Spanish, Japanese), and one F (Math, but I knew it was coming). I never saw those B's coming whatsoever, though. I thought I'd pull a C in Spanish and maybe a D in Japanese for how ridiculously hard it was. I must have done way better than I thought on the finals. So I'm happy about that. ^_^

I have more to say, but I'm tired and it's starting to get slightly lengthy, so I'll quit here.

    Nighty night, folks.

  • Three hundred ninety ninth entry - Bof! 2007-12-06 01:00:35 Time - 11:28, Noise - The Distillers - "The Hunger"

My new favorite phrase in French. <3 Bof! *shrug*

Had a weird creepy-cool-huh? moment a day or two ago. I was bundling up to go outside, and as I walked through the lounge hall, I looked out the windows to the side. It was snowing. At that particular moment, I was turning on my .mp3 player, and as I was staring at the snow, the first song that came on was the song I'm using for my new video. In the very first scene of said video, it's snowing. *cue Twilight Zone music*

If you've ever heard of Cabeza de Vaca, take my word for it and avoid this movie. It was a required viewing for my Spanish class, so I just finished watching it a few minutes ago. It's not so much that it's strange as the fact that it jumps around a lot and so many of the parts are very, VERY drawn out. There is barely any spoken language in the movie, so the long parts basically consist of a lot of staring at each other and odd semi-double-jointed-fetal-curling-interpretive-dancing-ish movement. Srsly. That's the best way I can describe it. Anyway, to be typical, I'll say with college student enthusiasm that it was kinda lame. But it has a plot, and and important lesson.

    Namely, don't eat your shipmates.

    Erm... nevermind.

But I suppose Cabeza de Vaca is better than any of those Carlos Fuentes documentaries. Sorry man, you speak too much, too fast, and about crap I don't care to hear your perspective on. And you're a chauvinistic pig. Jerk. : |

Gotta do my Japanese skit presentation tomorrow. Gah, and dare I say, gah again. It's not that we have to do it that bugs me. It's that they supposedly have to be memorized. Not that I saw anyone actually memorizing their scripts, but I always have that funny luck where everyone ahead of me will get away with something they're not supposed to be doing, but when my turn comes, I'll get nagged on for it. But y'know... I *wrote* the script. I should hope I have some clue of what it says. >_>

And... I think I'll end this entry on a musical note (ha, ha, very punny). In Indonesia, there was a concert called "Beginning of Fantasy," which played - what else? - Final Fantasy music. Now, the director in this concert was a fucking dipshit and played almost every single one of the songs at least a third slower than they're supposed to go, so I'd suggest ditching most of the other videos. However, these two feature a vocalist that I think is quite good, particularly when you consider that she is not only sixteen years old (or so I've read), but also that this is LIVE, and her pitch is still right on.

Rikki does a serviceable job with "Suteki Da Ne," and it's always been one of my favorite FF songs because of that, but Sherina has a fuller, more rounded voice that also compliments the song well.

On the other hand, Koda Kumi needs to stop singing. The girl can't hit a note to save her life. Sliding and scooping around to every damn note does NOT a good singer make, Koda-san. As such, when I do get the odd urge to listen to FFX-2 music, I always opt for the English version by Jade. She's decent - at least she hits the notes - though you can easily hear the "pop star" in her voice. Sherina once again manages to blend a beautiful voice with the way the song was originally intended to be heard - in Japanese, that is.

Sure, her Japanese pronunciation isn't always right on, but it's not her language either. And it takes a decent ear (and generally speaking, knowledge of the original song) to even notice that. I'll take a few misspoken words if it means a voice that's better than the original.

Hope you enjoyed. And the next entry is the big 4-0-0~!

    Nighty night, folks.

  • Three hundred ninety eighth entry - ever closer 2007-11-30 21:47:31 Time - 8:24, Noise - something from the Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life OST

I stand by everything I said about Ayumix 2.

    That is all.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Waiting on responses from two folks involved in the FMV MEP. I really want to get this project finished soon, or the second MEP will have to wait even longer. I just realized that with winter break coming up in less than a month, I won't have any time to coordinate the *beginning* of a project. If I get it underway before I leave, it'll be fine, but I can't start it from home. Let's hope I get something soon.

Haven't touched my new video in a while. I've been spending more time lately doing homework for classes. This is strange for me, as I'm not really the homework type, but for some reason I find myself falling behind more in these classes. Anyway, I started the video, but I haven't laid down any more clips. Maybe I'll try to get a little bit edited this weekend.

Oh, wanted to recommend something, too...
    http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?vid_id=152967

A bit rough around the edges, but it has a really solid concept. I guarantee that there aren't (and will never be) too many FFXII videos that use in game footage - and use it *coherently*. Kudos to the editor. It almost made me want to pick up FFXII again. >_>

Hmm... had some other stuff, but it's probably more LJ-worthy. (No, not emo. Just not AMV-related and/or something I feel like cluttering this journal with. Yeah, I realize that my entries are overblown in length and only half-related to the site most of the time anyway, but shut up. Female prerogative. : | )

    Nighty night, folks.

Damn. He was my favorite remixer, too. I was even imagining having him play on a certain song I had been dreaming up...

Even if you don't like videogame music, you gotta check out some of his stuff. It's gorgeous.

Today just got a lot more depressing... : (
