  • Five hundred fifth entry - quickly commenting my way through the masses 2012-08-03 15:13:03 Time - 1:57, Noise - FictionJunction KEIKO - "synchronicity"

Quick comments? What are those? You mean there are people out there yet who actually leave feedback?

Hey, I still leave serious, thoughtful quick comments...

    ...usually. >_>

I like the system myself, but it is definitely prone to abuse and not taken seriously by many of the .org members. The problem I have with simply using the opinion system instead is that I feel obligated to explain all of my scores, lest the editor flips out when I don't give them a perfect score and don't say WHY.

That takes more time than I'm willing to invest in most videos. I'm not always here to be a critic. Sometimes I'm just here to be a viewer, and maybe if I see something really awesome or really bad along the way, I like to have that quick comment box available to jot it down.

But yeah, like Ileia said, I doubt it's a system that'll be around in the future anyway - that is, if they ever get the damned redesign up and running. Hopefully it'll be replaced with something even better. I'm open to pretty much anything as long as this site maintains both video hosting and a community aspect. Everything else is icing on the cake. We'll just have to wait and see.

I guess that's my two cents. Don't spend it all in one place.

    See you, folks.

  • Five hundred fourth entry - can I just win the lottery, seriously? 2012-08-02 23:07:39 Time 10:04, Noise - Linkin Park (please put down your torches/pitchforks : | )

Seriously, fuck everything. Can I please just get one break? It seems like life is fighting me for every step I try to take.

Today's debacle was a problem with my debit/credit card. A couple of days ago, I tried to add money to my phone, only to have my card be declined. Okay, I probably didn't have enough money. No problem, I did just spend nearly everything from my last paycheck, and I can live without the phone for a while anyway.

So, I got paid today, and I tried it again. Still no go. I used Mom's phone to call the bank, and they said that my card had been hotlisted. In other words, somebody had hacked into the system in a store where I had used the card recently, and the company contacted the banks and had them cancel the cards in danger immediately.

They said that they had tried to contact me, but my phone number was not up to date and my address was not correct. This wasn't by accident on my part. Both debt collectors and the bank had been after my mother recently (the collectors still are), and I had neglected to update my information so that they wouldn't be able to find her through me.

Yet again, because of having to cover my mother's ass, I got screwed over. I can't get a new card for a couple of weeks, meaning I have no access to the money in my account (my phone will have to keep doing its best impression of a paperweight for a few weeks yet), and so I had to make an unnecessary one hour and twenty minute round trip to my hometown, on top of the fact that my mother had just done an even longer trip to the doctor today, because she's too goddamn stubborn to switch doctors to one around here.

She left me with probably a gallon of gas. Great, so I have a couple of ones in my purse, no way of getting into my account, and I have to make a trip home to resolve this. Needless to say, she had to give me money to get there and back - money that she hardly has at her disposal right now either.

Since I was going to need to use most of what was in my account anyway (bills, bills, bills), I just withdrew everything in it, and I decided to close out my IRA there, too. I need the money more than I care about the piddly fucking three hundred dollars that I haven't been able to add to in several years now. I'm going to switch to a local bank in the near future, as soon as I have enough money to open an account and cover any monthly maintenance fees (should be within the next paycheck or so). I can't afford another excessive trip like that.

You know, I don't believe in any supernatural powers, or a higher being, or karma, or anything like that, but I'm starting to think that I pissed off someone, somewhere. This much bad fortune in a year can't be natural.

I had to bite my tongue the other day when my mother said that we weren't the only ones who went through evictions and lost homes, or jobs.

Yeah, you're right. We weren't. But I'll bet we were one of the few who actually had everything we needed to stop it and you still managed to fuck it up anyway.

    See you, folks.

  • Five hundred third entry - it begins 2012-07-09 22:07:53 Time - 8:31, Noise - Full Blown Rose - "In the Light"

And so it starts. I just began recording my Fatal Frame 2 speedrun today.

Decisions, decisions. So I realized that getting a Fatal Frame on Miyako in the first segment makes no difference. Either she takes two normal shots and an FF or she takes two normal shots and a Zero Shot. The Zero is actually quicker than waiting for her to attack Mayu. Hooray for that. She attacks me more often anyway, so that works out in my favor.

The first segment ends when I've obtained both wood block halves for the Kurosawa House gates in Chapter 2. I save at the lantern outside of the Kiryu House.

My first attempt was 13:22. Ouch. Not cool. Then, I got 12:58, which is pretty good. Anything below thirteen minutes is a good first segment. My best time ever is 12:53, and my last attempt was 12:54. I'm wondering if I should just run with that. 12:50 is certainly possible, but I'll be fighting with the controls for days to get that. It's not like it's time-consuming battle errors, either. Miyako went beautifully. It's just measly half-second running errors, which are practically a given with this game.

I think in a speedrun, especially those with long segments (or single segment), you have to pick your fights. A few seconds out of a thirteen minute section is an acceptable loss.

On to segment two! AKA: the easy one. No fighting, just running. (Okay, so I take ONE photo of a hostile ghost...) I hate to do a segment that doesn't at least have one battle in it, but the Limbo Man/Woman fight is hell. It needs to be isolated from the other sections around it.

Anyway, we're making progress! It's exciting shit, you know.

    See you, folks.

  • Five hundred second entry - Oh, silly effort-intensive hobby 2012-07-05 18:02:35 Time - 4:55, Noise - obnoxiously loud fans

Phew. That was an ordeal. Dark Cloud 2 ran me up to 110 hours of gameplay, 48 hours of recorded footage, and 268 rendered scenes, taking up 74 GBs of space.

I am, however, finally finished with it. Now all I need to do is think of how to use it!

    : D

    See you, folks.
