JOURNAL: FirestormXIII (Robert X. Hill-Williams)

  • G'day G'day 2003-01-20 21:54:48 Blah, I don't feel like writing a whole lot. I just came back from Australia like 4 days ago. I kicked ass, a whole lot of ass. It's too bad it had to end.

    Note to self #1: I really need to re-upload my videos to my server, but I'm too lazy and it'll take forever if I'm at home.

    School starts tomorrow, but I have no idea what time my classes are, because they printed me the wrong person's schedule when I went to register.

    Found Symphony X, in Australia of course. They kick ass almost as much as going to Australia did.

    Note to self #2: I really, really need to start work on my NESProject. I know which anime I'm using now, I just need to download Nesten and rip my DVDs and start. Laziness is the greatest enemy of mankind, by far x_x;;

  • 'I'm writing you to catch you up on places I've been. And then you have this leter, probably got excited, but there's nothing else inside it...'-John Mayer, '3x5' 2003-01-02 07:23:14 Well, in a few hours I'll be flying off to Los Angeles, and then to Australia for a couple of weeks. I've still got a couple of things to take care of before I go (getting some CDs, some batteries) and then I'll be off. Looks like it's going to be an extremely fun trip, so that's good.

    I'll see everyone in a couple of weeks. (I get back on the 16th)

  • And Lalalala Life goes on... 2002-12-28 21:23:02 Well, kind of an uneventful day. Bought a couple of things I really can't afford right now. The first of them was an 80GB external HD by Maxtor, it ran me $200 at Best Buy. The second was an Xbox, along with an S controller, Halo, and Dead or Alive 3, which altogether was like $220. The only reason the Xbox costed so little is because I work at a Gamestop and we get a 20% discount on everything in the store (including anime ^_^) but excluding new systems. Well today lo-and-behold I was shrink-wrapping something, looked up, and saw that we got in a used Xbox from Corprate Office (which means that despite being used, it's in excellent condition). So I figured, 'Hey, since I already went on a bit of a spree with the Harddrive, I might as well get the Xbox too. It'll probably be gone tomorrow if I leave it here overnight (because customers flock to used systems like rabid wolves). So I got it, and reserved DOA: Beach Volleyball. I know I'll pay for this after I get back from Australia, but for now I'm quite happy.

    If I can manage to only spend $100 dollars while I'm away, then I can come home with 400 and pay it all off. Not to mention I get paid the Friday after I leave, so it shouldn't pan out too badly. I can kiss the tires I was gonna get for my car goodbye though, at least till my next paycheck.

    At any rate,

  • It's beginning to look a lot like Chri-what?...GOD DAMN MOTHERF*CKING S.O.B.S!! 2002-12-25 19:21:42 <snip>
    Unfortunately, a severe failure has occurred on your UNIX server system. While performing nightly backups, a operating system failure followed by massive abuse of a customer's scripts caused the server's hard disk as well as the backup drive to corrupt. During this process, the hard drives have been destroyed including all files and data. This is especially unfortunate since the backup hard drive was destroyed as well in this process which has kept all old and recent backup copies. At this point, we must regretfully declare all data as lost.
    </snip>

    Strangely, I'm not that upset. It honestly makes me kind of glad that I *didn't* make a website and put a whole lot of effort into learning html, because I would have lost everything I had done (not counting any back-ups).

    Worst loss out of all this: I lost all the videos that were up on my ftp. But it's not a huge loss, since I have all (I think) of my videos backed up on CD. I just have to take forever to put them back now. But even that's ok, because I just found out my cousin has a cable modem, so I'm gonna abuse that to put my stuff on, along with my part of Mission Improbable.

    Good things:

    I. FREE SERVICE OPTION
    ======================
    Your hosting account will be credited with ONE MONTH of free service, in case you have experienced loss of revenue during this server downtime. For receiving the account credit, please email billing@blahblahblah.com with your domain name in the subject line of your email, and your request in the email body. There is no further requirement to receiving the credit. According to our service uptime guarantee, the total credit will be ONE MONTH per DAY of downtime, resulting in a credit of ONE month.

    II. FASTER HARDWARE
    ==================
    The server supports the newest version of PHP4 and now runs with 1,536 mb RAM and 2,200 Mhz CPU Pentium IV CPU.

    III. MORE RELIABILITY
    ====================
    This server will be limited to only 125 clients, making it one of the most under-populated machines in this industry and thus more secure.

    IV. COST
    =========
    There are NO costs to you for this change.
    </snip>

    So I get a free month out of it, that's not bad. And they also upgraded the server, which is always a bonus. I think that now I'll finally start trying to learn more html and put up a website.

    Well, that's about it. I've gotta go take down my download links, then maybe I'll surf the forums for a bit.

    Later, Merry Whateverthefudge, and Happy Newsomething.
