JOURNAL: FirestormXIII (Robert X. Hill-Williams)

  • Where to start... 2002-11-02 21:06:27 Well, for lack of anything better to start with, I'll go with this first:

GTA:Vice City rocks your mom. Go play it, go play it now! You can even use a katana for God's sake!

*ahem* Now that that's been said I've got to say my legs hurt like a bitch. I was playing DDR for 5 hours today :O I remember about a month ago when I was talking about how bad my legs hurt, and that's when I was still doing basic/some another songs on DDR 3rd Mix. If I only knew...

I've come a long way in a pretty short amount of time in DDR. I have to chalk that up to being hooked on it though. Now I'm doing SSR (Step Step Revolution. It's the maniac version of DDR 3rd Mix, but without any easier choices) I had a surreal moment today after finishing playing one time on SSR. I realized that I was now 'the guy doing the crazy stuff' in DDR that I always used to watch. Of course I still suck (I can't clear paranoia rebirth or dead end in SSR still, though I'm working on them) but that's beside the point.
I also learned today that Laurel Falls has DDR 5th Mix and DDR Max. It's a bit longer of a drive to go there, but I can see where I'm going to be spending quite a bit of time on the weekends. Hell, I'd go up there tomorrow if I wasn't working. Oh well, cest la vie.
I also bought DDR MAX for PS2 today. I have a great fondness for the arcade though, and besides that home pads sucks. >_< I'd get one of the Red Octance pads, but I don't have $100 to blow that I could spend buying anime, or playing DDR in the arcades, or buying any other number of things.

Speaking of anime, I haven't done much in the way of purchasing lately, but I've got my eye on a few DVDs when my first paycheck rolls in from work. The third volume of Excel Saga is out already, and I hear it's hilarious. (pays to have anime fans for coworkers ^_^) I also saw an OVA of Armitage III for only 16 bucks (actually I had to 'gut' it and shrink wrap the case for display). Combine that with my 20% discount at work and I can't pass it up. I'm also wondering when the next volume of FLCL lands, I really like that series so far.

On the editing front, I'm still working (well, if by working you mean only having 20 seconds done and should be working on it instead of playing GTA:Vice City) on my video which I'm still trying to get done before the CSUN deadline. Fortunately I only work Sunday and next Saturday, so that'll free up some time for me to edit. I know I can finish it, I just need to settle down and get to work on it.

Well, that's about it for me, I'm gonna go lurk in the chat until something interesting happens...and work on some missions in Vice City *evil smile*

    Later.

Thought of the day: Bad driver's suck, and bad drivers who are stupid and think they drive well even though they don't stop at stop signs should be shot on sight.
  • Bibbidy bobbidy boo 2002-10-27 22:41:52 Hmmm, don't really have much to say here, I just figured I write a little since I haven't done so in a while.

Finished Paperskunk's review last night after I came in from work. good video, everyone should see it. It's called 'Dreamy State' and it's the Escaflowne movie done to Eric Clapton's version of 'Classical Gas'. Great stuff.

I started working this week as well. I got a seasonal job at Gamestop, which is extremely cool since I play video games quite a bit (hell it's what I do in my free time). And though walking around my entire shift isn't the best relaxation method in the world, at least I get to talk about something I like while I'm working. And even besides that, the people I work with are great. (They're anime fans too! And not DBZ anime!) They're hilarious, especially after all the customers have cleared out for the night.
I work monday night till 12am, because our store is getting a shipment of GTA: Vice City in at about 10:30pm. So to avoid having too much of a rush on Tuesday (which we still will anyway) we're going to be the only store in the mall open till midnight, and we're gonna allow people to come in and pick up their copy if they reserved it. And the coolest part is that I'm gonna get my copy as soon as it comes in at a discount (I get 20% off everything except new systems. I even get a 20% discount at Barnes and Nobles O.o )

So all in all things are going well. I just finished editing my song for the NESProject about an hour ago. It now clocks in at 3:04. I'm gonna run it by Fluxand and Roz when I get the chance. Hopefully the 4 seconds won't matter much, they could probably just fade the ending since the project is probably gonna be a nonstop mix. We shall see, we shall see.

I'm also trying to get my Metropolis video done this week so I can have it done and ready for the CSUN contest. I'm more than sure I can pull it off, especially now that my previews work again in Premiere. Before I had to export my video if I wanted to see what I'd done, now I can just hit enter. Much quicker, makes editing not so much stop-and-go too, which helps me a lot. I'm going to work some more on it in the morning, it's too late now.

Well, that about does it for me.

    Night everyone.
  • And not a creature was stirring... 2002-10-20 00:26:33 But hey, I'm not complaining, as I said before I rather like it this way.

Apparently there's been a mass exodus of the major group of spammers from the forum. I really do think it's for the better. There's nothing wrong with making friends and hanging out a bit, but there's a point where 'What does this word mean to you?' and the like gets completely ridiculous.
I feel that the org is closer to being like the place that I first came to almost a year ago, and it's a good feeling.

I picked up Disturbed's album 'The Sickness' and Metallica's 'S&M' today from Sam Goody. The only reason I bought the Disturbed album is because I was kind of dissapointed with their latest album and I wanted to make up my mind about whether they're worth listening to on a regular basis. I happen to like their song 'Down With the Sickness' though, so even if I decide not to listen to them regularly the CD won't be a complete waste.

Metallica's S&M however is a purchase I've been meaning to make for a while, but I had always passed it up in favor of getting a new DVD or somesuch thing. I'm glad I finally bought the CD though, because it's awesome. I've liked 'No Leaf Clover' for a while, but I'm impressed with S&M on the whole. I've only gotten to listen to the beginning half of the first CD, but I feel I can safely say that the rest of the first CD and the second CD will not dissapoint me.

I'm amazed at how Metallica actually meshes with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra rather than just playing over them, like I originally feared they would. It sounds quite beautiful, and the orchestra is highlisted nearly as much as Metallica is, which is a very good thing. I can't wait to take a listen to the rest of this set.

In other news, I have made a very special DVD purchase today. 'Why is it special?' you ask. It's special because the DVD I bought today becomes the second of only two (count 'em two!) live action movies that I own on DVD. The rest (all 41 of them) are anime.
Oh yea, the movie is 'Brotherhood of the Wolf'. I'd been meaning to catch the movie when it was in theaters, but somewhere along the line I missed it. So tonight I bought it, and am putting faith in the fact that it'll be good.
    /Me hopes ^_^

Well, that's about it for tonight. I've got my review for YCSTR's 'Dedicated to Ana' halfway finished, I'll be finishing that up tomorrow, and then I'll get around to Paperskunk's. I want to work on my video though, so I can get it submitted in time for the CSUN contest. We'll see how my time balances out tomorrow. So much to do, so little time.
Think I'll make one last run at the (quiet, yay!) forums and call it a night.

    Later all.
  • To Chaos Angel 2002-10-17 21:21:14 Amen.
  • Damage Control... 2002-10-15 10:06:04 ^ That's what I feel like I've been doing since the forums went down on the org. Since they've gone down, a number of people have migrated to another forum that I'm a member of. And yet, after an entire night of the 'Great Migration' I must say I'm highly relieved that the new members are abiding by the rules and that everything is copastetic (sp?).

With that said, I have to say that 'yes' spammers are a problem, but spammers are not the biggest problem the org has. The biggest problem the org has are people who think it's cool to be hostile to other people and try to incite other people to flaming, cursing each other out, and generally bringing out the worst in others.

But on the other hand, members need to not take everything so seriously on the forums, or take every comment as an attack on them. The forums will always have trolls and spammers in some fashion, but if we run away or bitch to Phade or complain in general every time one of them posts then we're giving them exactly what they want.
In fact, the troll who posted in Aluminum's (Will's) thread asking for Sailor Jupiter scans even said himself that he was looking to get a big reaction from everyone after he posted. It doesn't change the fact that he was a jackass, but having the forums shut down over that situation and others like it is the biggest reaction that most trolls could ever hope to see.

C'mon guys, it's not as if spammers and trolls are nothing the members (and Mods) here can't handle. Stand up for yourselves if someone is being an ass, but lighten up as well, because everyone that disagrees with you is not necessarily trolling.

The following are my views from a discussion on another forum (I posted this to the mailing list, so you can skip it if you've read it there already):

"Everyone is missing the point on this. This is bigger than the fact that one person was trolling, this is bigger than the fact that Will got upset over the whole thing.

The point of all this is not that Will was upset, it was the fact that Will is a Creator who, by someone's actions (who doesn't/hadn't made any AMVs) felt that he didn't want to be at the site anymore. And on top of all that, didn't want to even have his videos listed at the site anymore.

When something like that happens it affects the purpose that AMV.org was created for: to be a catalouge of videos. What's the point of AMV.org if no one puts their videos there?

    Short answer: There is none.

AMV.org having a forum is a side effect of its growth, and a place made by Phade so that creators would have a place to unwind. Truth be told, there are probably more people on the forums now who've never made a video than people who do so regularly.

If Phade were to get rid of the Forums, yes people would miss it. But creators would still remain on the site to list their videos and keep up their other happenings. The only people who would be left out in left field are the people who don't make videos, and outside of the forum have no reason to be on the site. AMV.org will still continue even if the forums are gone.

Phade knows that, and he's protecting the site by his actions; not Will's feelings."
