WORLD KEEPS TURNIN
2004-07-05 20:24:53
i don't know where to begin
let's start fro the beginning.
12:15 am, Friday.
I get picked up by stibo and akun. we stop at 76 and get gas. we head south for the xpo. we reached anaheim, with no traffic, hitting out inn at about 6:30. we parked and napped more. i was running on an odd 5 hours of sleep the boys 2. it doesn't phase them for the rest of the mad day that was the first.
we were staying a block and a half away from the xpo. we get food at ihop and park at the marriot, a little after 1030am. oh shit. a WAREHOUSE full of otaku of every spectrum. there was a mix up with registration, and so we were all seperated by pre-reg and reg. due to the unorganized reg, akun and stibo somehow managed to get their tickets ten minutes after open, while i waited 4 hours. exactly, 1030 to 1:50. it was VERY PAINFUL. while waiting within that time, someone got overzealous and did a bad trick, resulting in bashing his head on the concrete. hard. he was wheeled away. a little gang of naruto ran into the warehouse and posed. it was sort of cute and the best cosplay there. i don't really care for coplay so that says a lot. then appeared man-faye*(go the the anime expo thread in the convention forum for a pic, if you dare). screams everywhere everyone ran for the snapshot. I sat behind the most annoying group of kids. Ever. They were hopped up on donuts and sodas as I disgustingly watch them meditate on their sugar. They then proceeded to get really obnoxious not long after. Snore.
Finally, I left the warehouse hell of registration and I went into the dealer room. Swapped up all the free swag I could. Keychains, stickers, manga catalogs, dvd catalogs, brouchures. Looked around the booths and remembered which ones I would return to. My first pruchase? A flcl haruko shirt, fresh off the prints, size small. Yeah!
We wandered around the booths forever. Stibo took pics of booth babes-adv twins, random cosplay girls, etc. we got hungry and had some overpriced lunch in the dealer room. We sat in the patio and chatted about the mild weather and exhaustion. We headed up to the third floor to the stand in yet another line to get into the amv contest(stibo had to trick his way into getting us all tickets, while al hit 5 DEAD ENDS trying to find my comps, bastards had no clue, but I knew this after the first hour of waiting to reg). Two hours and a half later, the contest started. This was due to the fact that the director dropped his laptop while rendering last minute and also lost one entry in the process. So the contest was very long, because we had to wait to render. And so the contest goes-
Category 1-drama. Started nicely with Love is a battlefield w/gundam, and la perfect blue amvs were among the best, the character story nicely told.
Category 2-comedy. Talk about slim pickings. The first two weren’t even funny. Disney in D was the best and I won’t doubt that it’ll win audience award if not best in show. Shinji’s nightmare was pretty funny too, along with football and hale’s mom.
Category 3-action. The flcl amv had soooo many layers. It’s was a little overwhelming, I had a heart attack when mine came on. The one that followed mine, naruto, had interesting edits. Voices of a distant star was pretty good.actually I don’t remember if that was in this category or…
Category 4-AMTv-this SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN A CATEGORY. It was a waste of a half hour. The only Amv that stuck out nicely was the Witch Hunter Robin AMV. I chose that as my best in show.
After that, we went back to the inn and crashed.
Saturday
Woke about 9 and headed out for breakfast. Made sure it was hearty and headed to the xpo well rested and fed. On the way over we stopped at 7-11 where a cosplay girl was stopped by a tourist and she had to expolain to this woman what exactly what she was doing in daylight like that. Heheh.
It wasn’t too packed and we proceeded to buying what we could. I picked up manag at the comicone 2 buck table. Older titles, but I’ve never read. I got the flcl haruko figure, a few figures for yei, and that pretty much ending my spending.
Went to the adv panel. It was pretty crowded and yet more obnoxious youngins’ were there. They showed their upcoming releases. Everytime a kid title came up this stupid boy kept loudly moaning/yelling. It was lame. Even his friend told him he hated him. But the titles I remember were-saiyuki, two girls ran up the the stage and hugged the coordinator and gave him panties. Seriously. Gilgamesh, which barely anyone under 18 knew about. Chrono crusade, some seal thing, something star and hello kitty. Yeah, that hello kitty.
They had a giveaway contest, where you had to guess trivia. Fun. They gave away a rahxphon box set, megazone dvds, among others.
We then hung out for awhile on the mezzanine and watched the cosplay kids. There were SOOOOO MANY. I have to admit the only ones I liked were edward and haruko. Then we hit the robotech panel. Mostly the discussed the invasion video game and other fodder. The teased with info on shadow force, the new series after new generation, by saying look up their website. All it is is a page saying coming soo with more info. Bastards. They gave away the newest alpha, the first to hit the states a production copy not even the directors had, along with the convention special veritech.
After that we went to eat at bakers square. Yum. We went back and perused a little longer missing shows due to rescheduling and last minute closings. So we watched cosplayer kids from the mezzanine again. the three of us talked about how we didn’t have cosplay when we were kids, and would we let our kids cosplay, etc. it was interesting. We also talked about the abudant amount of young girls vs the old single otaku thirtysomething men. A scary combination. But no incidents reported.
We headed to watch GTO dubbed and the AX dance. Can you say wanna be rave? I hate when people stand in a circle and watch brekers. It takes up space and gives those afraid to dance and excuse to still be on the floor. Annoying. I had to have a cosmo before I went in, while stibo had a long island iced tea and akun a vodka tonic. We were there sweating with those bo folks for about an hour and a half leaving during fantasy’s performance, because it was anything but. We went into the arcade at I watched people get crazy on the japanese arcades. I love itneractive games. So healthy. Parparaparadise is all cardio.
We watched witch hunter robin. It was pretty great and I might get it soon. That pretty much ended our experience on a good note. They played a lot of goth like anime at night. Coincidence?
We headed back to the inn and I passed out, again quickly.
We woke at 9 and made our way back north, stopping only for gas and another ihop experience. Went to fry’s where I got a dvd-rw finally and went home.
Fun.
today i installed my new player and i cleaned my shelves. hung out with my dog and watched noir and mezzo

i am SO O O bad. i bought 3 hats! one, i decided to give to yei, but the other two i got because i couldn't decide which one i really wanted. they are both pretty toned down compared to yei's. eep, i spent too much too.
i'm considering returning the newsy one because yei has a blue one i already like. i might keep the cadet one because i just like it. reminds me of the diesel cap i have. same fabric. and i wore that one out like crazy. it's still my favorite too.
oh boy, i sure do know how to spend wrong.

i am going to go shopping around 11, and hopefully find a decent hat to put over my blah hair. it's in that dreadful in between stage. i feel like a granny.
the great thing about being in this sity is you have a lot of places to go to look. the bad thing is they are all spread out in the 15 hundred districts. crap. but i'm going to the one place i hope wont' let me down. rolo. they move from stockton which sucks, and moved to their garage location. they even closed down the one on castro. it was listed in splendora's sporty hipster section. weak sauce.
if that doesn't work, i'll have to head to hayes valley. i can't be out all day though because i have more errands to run after work and have to go home and have yei texture my hair.
boring girl crap info i know but i can't help it. i'm feeling frumpy and boring looking.
i should head upstairs now.

falling away with you

since when did days use hours as a form of torture? who do they think they are? it's fcukn cruel i tell you. i really want it to be tomorrow already.
not much happened today. i had to seperate my dogs three times within an hour. it's really depressing because they use to like each other. i'm just glad they weigh less than 12 lbs. i couldn't imagine pulling about big dogs.
the anticipation for ae is building on the forums i peruse. the voice of faye(cowboy bebop) was just added as a guest on the voice actors panel.
i'd like to hope for the best. i'll be away all weekend, so i doubt i will be writing in my journal. but i will definitely fill you guys in when i come back.
but don't worry, i'll still have some words for tomorrow.
