JOURNAL: Paul Kievits (Paul Kievits)

  • Rant 2002-11-04 04:37:46 OK this might be a tad long and all and might sound like whining so if you don't like people bitching this might be the right moment to hit the "back" button.

Well it all started by me submiting my video "Technoshock" to the english convention "AYA returns". I considered myself to have a minute yet existing chance to actually win this contest. So I wait and I wait and come sunday the convention is over and I see reactions but no results yet. Then I catch Ian online (who was going to go to the con) he told me he hadn't managed to make it ... so I wait some more and then Ian contacts me with the news that I hadn't won anything. That is still tolerable since my video isn't really built for winning awards. But then he tells me my video hasn't even been shown! They showed a total of 4(!) videos while they had a lot more submissions. How crappy and unfair is that? I spent money for an empty CD and postage not to mention the time I spent making an extra copy, the least they could have done was show it. The thing is that I had the idea that they were going to show it, the person I contacted even had a certain level of "like" for my video. Anyway, I was really pissed and frustrated about all of this and the fact that this video will never win anything (I knew this when I began and I shouldn't care about it but somehow I am a little dissapointed when I don't win). Ian's reaction was gold, he's an incredibly nice guy and his kind words really helped me calm down a lot, I owe you one. He made a very valid point aswell "Contests are not always judged by quality, they are popularity contests". This is so true, actually this is so true I'm contemplating never entering a contest again (maybe unless I'm at the actual contest to see crowd reaction) until I make a straightforward commercial bullshit video that braindead numbskulls adore and wank off to. Until that time, I probably won't compete (A2003 and CSUN being my last contests since I already submitted there). Thanks alot AYA-f*ckwads for making me realise this!

On a side note: I also talked to Scott again yestersay since a long time, it was a good chat, he remains a easy-going guy who is fun to talk to (he also knows hot chicks O_O)
  • Best AMV day ever!!! 2002-10-30 03:17:55 I haven't posted here in a while, mainly because the things happening in my life aren't too exciting but they are productive. I finished of the MUSE VCD I was working on complete with interactive menus, 17 videos in all, nice backup ^_^. I also am got myself a guitar, sounds great but it cost me $500 -_-. Anyway, let me exokain the title. 2 days ago was the best AMV day ever, I got up and saw that MJ had reviewedmy video, later on in the day I got an email from Brad DeMoss that he was shipping a DVD with his videos and from Erik Kobet that his MPEG2 versions of Tainted donuts were ready (both for my AMV panel). Then when I go down to dinner there's a package with Hsien Lee's videos, does it get any better? Thanks a lot to the people I mentioned. Yesterday I got Tainted donuts via FTP 325 meg MPEG2 file ... *drool* ... AMV Panel is go!

One last thingie; I'm still working on AMVR Lite (which is basically a review site for music videos), pretty soon you'll be able to add your videos to the review list and get video reviews free of charge ^_^.
  • VFP is dead 2002-10-23 16:58:22 Vegeta for president is dead! The old dbz fanboy name is finally dead *dances around grave*
  • 3 hours @.@ 2002-10-23 16:20:03 My train had 3 hours of delays today, it took me thrice the time to get home of what it usually takes me, goodbye evening ... -_-

I will review Beowulfs video soon, I liked it, you'll see soon enough.

I also booted cave from the potential song list for my last MUSE video. The decision process went like this:

    - *Listening to Showbiz* Fuck it, drop cave
    - *Listening to Cave* Fuck it, drop Bliss or Showbiz
    - *Listening to Bliss* Fuck it, drop Cave or Showbiz

I prefer showbiz a little over Cave so I decided to get rid of it, the songs are all damn great. Now to decide which song to use, I have the showbiz/black heaven combo in my head, now to find a match for bliss. I'm going to give this video my all to make it the ultimate advertisement for MUSE and my best video to date, I'll proably be using after effects for the first time aswell, saw a site with a lot of great tutorials!
  • 3 Leftt. 2002-10-22 17:31:37 Just a quicky: After extensive listening I narrowed the track seelection for my third muse video down to 3 songs; getting rid of these:

    - Citizen erased: My favorite song, but the live version has too much inapropriate crowd noise and the cd version has been done already (I don't want to use a song in the database).
    - Hyper music: The live version didn't ended but played on into another song, and I've done a fast action video before, time to move on.
    - Agitated: The live version's footage was used by me before and the cd version doesn't cut up to the other songs
    - Yes please : Not as good as the others
    - Shine : Same as yes please
    - Space dementia (live): A lot of people would find the video to boring
    - Uno (live): Just barely missed out, good but not good enough.

    Which leaves me with these:

    - Showbiz live: Together wih black heaven this is a big contender
    - Cave live: Still the goosebumps; no anime ideas yet, might be the first to go
    - Bliss live: I was going to chuck it but it's Muse' signature song and it fucking rules.

Yes ... all live. Muse live are amazing and everyone will experience it.

BTW. Why is no one downloading Technoshock? It got 3 good reviews and is almost in the top 10% and it's available, for god's sake people...
