Red and black (Beta)
2002-08-28 19:51:35
I sat down today and I designed a new skin for AMV, note it's a beta and will need a little tweaking before it's completely done but it looks way different from what we've seen so far and I kinda like it, I'm using it now ^_^. The name of the skin is "Red and black (Beta)", try it for yourself (but get away from the skin chosing screen as quickly as possible since it doesn't use CSS so don't let the failed missing text misguide you).
I also filled up a ridiculous 12 second gap in my timeline with all sorts of filler footage, I'll tweak it after I'm done. I got the basic timing down, but basically it's still nothing special. I now have approx. 30 seconds left to edit, 2 or 3 days worth editing and a week worth tweaking should fix most of it, then I'll try it on a test audience and see how it works (I'll probably need another week or 2 to tweak) so my video should be done september-ish meaning any contest in october is worth enterting ... yay ^_^

Bla, flawed crap.

Ugh this video is draining me inspiration wise, I don't like anything I'm churning out anymore, eventhough it's pretty decent stuff. The main idea now is just to finish the video ASAP and then start nitpicking and improving all the parts I don't like which should take soooooooo long -_-. Oh well I did edit 13 seconds today and got a scene which I liked! for a change, however now the transition at the end sucked -_-. I have approx. 40 seconds left to do and I know how to fill 30 seconds of it but the other ten seconds ... beats me. My optimism has quickly turned around into pessimism. I am definatley not going to enter Anime USA anymore I'll never make it. Everything from October forward should be fine though... *hopes*
Also never edit on a celeron 433 with 160 mb ram, you could move a clip, eat some breakfast, walk the dog and take a leak, go back to your pc and discover that the clip hasn't moved at all xP

And I quote:
"MUSE's third album will be "uplifting" because singer MATT BELLAMY has fallen in love, NME.COM can reveal. The band are due to play the Reading leg of the Carling Weekend this afternoon, just before headliners Foo Fighters. In an exclusive NME.COM interview, the Muse frontman said that this evening's gig will mark the end of an era for the band, so they can concentrate on writing and recording new material in London. "We're playing two new ones tonight", he said. "(Some of the new songs) are extremely uplifting...I've fallen in love, know what I mean?!" One that will be played tonight has a working title of 'The Smallprint', a song described as one of the rockier new songs. However, he warned that not all Muse's third album will be so straightforward, saying some of the new tracks "sound like ABBA!" "
WTF???? Kicks Matt in the nuts ... you better not start to sound like ABBA *shivers*. I hope it all turns out for the best, some of their newer stuff sounds pretty good, so who knows ^_^.
Anyway, I tried to get plenty of editing done today but I did 5 seconds, of which the basic timing is good, but there was one 3 second part I redid 5 times and it still looks like crap -_-. However since it'll take me 2 hours to redo again, I'll leave it for the end-tweaking to fix. I MIGHT enter this vid to the anime america contest (which gives me less than 2 weeks), however only IF I'm fully satisfied with the video, given my average speed, the necessary improvement sessions and the test audience I want to check my video I probably won't make it. I will be submitting to AYA returns and A2003 though so I have atleast 2 cons I'm sending in to. I'm going to try to do a really f*cked up effect tommorow, I'll probably be spending all day on a 3 second part, which will be a sincere cut in productivity but should be well worth it in the end.

Daily drunken mayhem
2002-08-25 19:03:09
Yep that's right, it's time for another update. I was partially drunk yesterday so excuse the typo's...
I had a mega-editing day today, seems I'm starting to get some routine. Anyway, I got 16 seconds done(!) and am now down to about a minute of stuff left to do. The best part is that the editing I did was near flawless and needs no imediate tweaking ^_^. Since my video is going so well I might actually get it done next week (but no hasting). I'll be submiting it to atleast to cons (aya returns(UK) and Anime 2003(The netherlands)). I'm also going to try to find some american cons I can submit to. Just curious how my video will do compared to all them big names. The thing is since I want my video to hit some cons, I won't be releasing it publicly for quite some time. My video should make it's internetdebut Febuary 23rd for the first time! I'll probably spread it via messenger to several people though. The hing is I don't want people to have seen it before it gets to a con. Anyway there's still ample stuff to do after the video is perfected. I still need to make those 3 ending credits (which should be fun), submit the damn thing to a screening audience and perfect where necessary. Also I need to get cracking on the interactive menu's on the DVD, box art and directors comments. I've determined I'll make 3 DVD versions. "Con version" which will have a slightly different box-art (my adress etc), "Light version" which will have all of the music video stuff, but not the AMV workshop stuff and "Heavy version" which should appear later and include the AMV workshop and the making of. It's all really ambitious but hey, everybody needs to expand their horizons right?
I've also noticed a sad thing going on. Several people I've seen around here (and many more I probably haven't seen) think making AMV's is some kind of contest to show who's the best. I fins that rather sad. Isn't editing about fun and artistic endevour(sp?)? People don't care about how great you think you are and so forth. Just edit stuff and enjoy it, don't edit because you want to compete. My $0.02
