  • Stupid Lenders.......... 2005-08-17 21:27:59 We were suppose to close on our new house Sept. 1st, 2005, but they screwed it up and now they are saying they might be able to do Sept. 8th, 2005. They better get it together. I'm not waiting for a month while they figure out what they're doing.

Been so busy with work and getting ready to move that I haven't had time to do anything -- including AMV.org. Maybe I'll be able to update again in the near future. Later.

  • No more house-hunting........ 2005-07-28 20:43:37 We made an offer on one house, but couldn't agree on a deal with the seller. Looked at another house the following day and made an offer. This seller accepted the offer, so as soon as the financing comes through and the closing date comes we'll be moving into a new house. That's good and bad.

A new house is great, but I don't think we'll have broadband there which means I may be online less. That means I may be on AMV.org less. However, maybe with less time online and less time commuting to work I'll have more time to put into AMV projects. That may be good.

Well, time for bed -- I'm tired. Later.

  • Looking at houses sucks........... 2005-07-20 22:35:54 Lookig at house after house after house sucks. We keep looking at houses -- trying to find one we like. Too small, too expensive, over-priced, needs too much work, in the wrong part of town, they all have something wrong with them. There is no perfect house, I know. I'd settle for halfway decent at this point. We have a few options and we are set to look at a couple later this week. We'll see how it goes.

Work is going well. I'm getting good exposure with the high-profile projects I'm working on. That's good. Since I've only been there a few months now, maybe they'll recognize the amount of contribution I'm making out of the box and reward me for it. Nah! Who am I kidding. Well, anyway, I gotta go sleep. Later.

  • Interesting enough for one entry, then back to life.............. 2005-07-15 12:33:33 When I'm on the site, I like to take the time to read a few journals and look at a few profiles -- to get to know the people that share in the AMV experience. It can be quite interesting to see the range of diversity this hobby spans.

I see a lot of silly things, a lot of hilarious things, a lot of serious things, a lot creative things. I take them all with a grain of salt -- as I do most things in life. I'm not one to pass judgment, that's not my job, but I am one to share an opinion or two occasionally.

After reading about Sammy and reading several of Sammy's journal entries, I found it interesting. Like a black hole, it sucked me in for a few reads just to see what the fuss was all about. I admit I read three pages worth of emotionally-charged ranting in an attempt to understand the person behind the text (if even only a little).

His ranting is no different than any other place on the web (in that, he is not original). Like a lover scorned, rants are dished out to every member that doesn't meet the standard. As high as that bar seems to be set, most members could fall prey (myself included). Yet, I have to agree with some of what Sammy rants about.

There are a lot of cookie-cutter videos out there. Take one part popular anime and one part popular song and you get one overdone AMV. However, this is a product of society, not the people in it. Society crams the pop culture down our throats to try to make a buck. I'm guilty of falling prey to it as well, even though I know it's going on -- it's a powerful force. Heck, my first attempt at an AMV is unoriginal and not particularly well done. I suck at AMVs as much as the next guy.

I did create it before finding AMV.org and have since moved to much more original works -- even if I haven't finished any of them yet. Maybe I'm slow, but I have a life outside of AMV -- it is after all a hobby. I wish I had more time to spend making AMVs though -- it is terribly addicting and fun. Part of the fun is sharing your work and hearing what people think. You can't make good videos every time so you come to expect some criticism. Without the criticism how would you know what to improve.

Sammy is opinionated and he has a right to his opinion, just like anyone else. I salute his willingness to voice it when so many others don't. How many times have people made AMVs only to have less than 5% of the viewers leave opinions? I welcome opinions, good or bad. Every opinion gives you an outside perspective that's difficult to gain by yourself.

So I say, "Keep on keeping on, Sammy." Leave all the opinions you want. One thought though, are the obscenities really necessary? I leave you with an excerpt of a real conversation that happened years ago -- enjoy.

    Younger man: "<explicative>"
Older man: "Why do you talk like that?"
    Younger man: "I don't know."
Older man: "You know, you're educated. You should be able
to choose your words more carefully and speak
more eloquently. I only speak like that
    because I'm ignorant."

  • Buy instead of build..... 2005-07-14 08:57:42 Well, it looks like we are buying a house instead of building. OK. That means I have to spend time looking at houses now. That means buying and moving into one at some point. That means I have no spare time in the near future. That means no time to work on AMVs for a while. Ho-hum.

When I do get back to it, I'll rip some more footage and keep pushing forward. Till then, enjoy an AMV for me. Later.
