Lain vs. Tsukasa - Who would win?
2005-03-08 20:45:04
I had a thought about who would win in a one-on-one battle: Lain or Tsukasa?
LAIN: A young girl who finds herself being drawn into "The Wired", an information network that allows everyone to connect to a virtual world. Inside The Wired, Lain has extraordinary power that soon spils over into the Real World.
TSUKASA: A young boy who finds himself trapped in "The World", a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game that connects everyone in the Real World to a virtual fantasy world of myth and monsters. Inside The World, Tsukasa has the power to travel anywhere he wishes and summon a yellow, barbell-shaped "Guardian" to protect him. However, things begin to happen in The World that begin to affect the Real World.
Same sort of worlds, similar characters, similar destinies. Who would edge out the other to be the greatest?
(Answer in the next post.)

Three Points

3-2-2005
- First, I know that Please Forgive Excel is not highly rated, but I thought it was a fun video
anyway. In the end, that's what it's all about, right? :)
Also of note on that video is my new credits sequence. Instead of the static pictures, I now have an elaborate end sequence that I will incorporate into every video
- Second, I hope that everyone is doing well. I'm busier these days and slower in collecting new anime. Still, I'm making my newest AMVs using the Legend of Himiko (Himiko-Den) as my source. The two I have in mind will take a bit to make -- I'm really working hard to time the video and music.
If you have any tips you would like to offer based on my other videos, I'd like to hear them.
- Last, I find more and more that my viewpoints on anime are not being taken seriously or aren't being reacted to.
So, a little background about my anime experience: I've been watching animation for 23 years (I am almost 30, if you need to know). If you ever want to see my collection of animation, you can check it out on Anime News Network, where I have a Public List I'm consistently updating. As you can tell by looking at it, I have a very large amount of animation I spent over 10 years collecting, and seen twice that amount.
But, I'm more than animation and music. I'm an interesting person, and like to talk about a lot of things. Just send me a PM or IM so that I can get to know all of you interesting people as well. :)

My Weekend of the Eva
2005-02-11 22:22:22
I'm resolved to pick up all my Eva material (Platinum TV Episodes 1-20 and the two movies) and watch it all, from start to finish.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, I think that Episode 20 is about the best episode -- and contains a nit!
Notice that Shinji, in Episode 19, entered Eva Unit 01 in his shirt and slacks? Well, in Episode 20, they peek inside the entry plug to find Shinji has disappeared and only his PLUG SUIT remains. Now where did that plug suit come from? ^_^
Also, I was looking around the entry plug for his synchronization units (the two silver pins that clamp to his head), but I could not find them floating around. Where did they go?
Still, a foreshadowing of what happens in the last two episodes... or so I've heard, since the only version of the last two I've seen are the ones on End of Evangelion. (In fact, it's more appropriate to Episode 26 of that movie.)
After the show and movies, I'll be blitzing through EVA-R / EVA-R' (http://eva-r.com) as well, since it's a very good, logical continuation of the Evangelion story that is completely engaging to read. If you like Evangelion, you must read EVA-R and check out the website's multimedia content -- which includes dojinshi manga based on the story, lots of great movies including a 5-minute CG movie of Episode 41 ("Seed of Pain") and Radio Plays featuring Tiffany "Asuka" Grant.
In short, the EVA-R site is a must-visit. :)

New Editor (Finally) and Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum
2005-02-10 20:14:58
My newest news is that I'm finally using a more "professional" editor: Adobe Premiere Elements. I gave my computer a large hard drive upgrade, as well, so that means more material for my AMVs now.
I'll be working on some new AMVs with it and the AMVApp.
I also just picked up Neon Genesis Evangelion Volume 5, with a special called "The Mythology of Evangelion". Finally, we get the "official" story of the whys of Evangelion. (Personally, I liked the old Anime News Network article on "Understanding Evangelion", which outlines it somehwat differently but says the same things.)
I can't wait for the last two volumes to come out. This is my first look at the TV series (asides from Death and Rebirth), and really like it. I can't wait to see how it ends. :)

Why am I here?
2005-02-03 17:53:16
To tell you the truth, I just make videos I like to watch over and over. :)
I have actually created somewhere around 20-25 videos, but only 8 of those are on AMV.org.
Right now, I'm very, very new at doing this. (Thanks to Scintilla, AbsoluteDestiny, AMVFreak, and many others for setting me on the right track and tolerating my noobishness. If you're reading this, PM me sometime -- I like talking about more than AMVs. :) )
Do I want to get well-known? When it comes to AMVs, yes and no. I like anime (my overflowing DVD shelf should be proof enough of that ;) ), but I'm more than just AMVs. I'm also working on other projects, have to go to work, participate in work-related study ... but then I'm really like any other person.
I have people who think I'm wierd just because I like anime. But I'm not alone out here -- many of you like anime, too.
In the end, we all come together here for one reason: we want to honor Japanese animation and music (and video games) by making something that someone who hasn't seen anime might pick up and say "I like this, show me more". Everyone who's new at something won't probably get any recognition for a while, if at all.
But, that's not really why I'm here.
So, why am I here, if it's not for recognition?
It's the same as any online community, really: meeting new people you want to talk to and associate with. Also, by adding to that community with your own input and work.
That's what makes communities interesting places to visit. :D
Until next time.
(Send a PM sometime. I'd like to get to know you.)
