Bugger!
2004-07-27 06:22:07
I'm finally ready to upload my new AMV. It will be free to the savages that frequent this site (and the rest of you) but alas my work computer has died. The temporary replacement is running windows NT which means it won't take my USB flash memory without reformatting it first!
This puts me somewhat in limbo. The computer was previously used by another developer who left about a week ago. It clearly has his settings still firmly imprinted on it. I can't even uninstall real player, much less disinfect it afterwards.
It might not need to reformat to use my files. I'll give it a go in a minute, if it works I'll get it up and feel the sense of releif. God I hate this machine. I'll see if I can get an upgrade to 2000 or XP (hell, I'd take 98SE) when I get my old machine back. It also means, no downloading today so I can't even watch AMVs.

More testing - in theory
2004-07-26 05:03:22
Well god changed the password on the area he was hosting the beta of my AMV. Which is good, since I don't want opinions on an out of date version. But he forgot to send me the new one. So I have a version waiting for testing, but no one can download it until he get his arse out of bed and gets online.
It's a pity because it's much improved over last week's effort. I mostly have godix to thank for that but darklife was pretty helpful as well. Unfortunately no one will be able to see the improvements.
If he isn't there by lunchtime, I'm going to phone him. If that doesn't work I'll give up and declare it finished, encode a full quality copy and upload it to the golden donut tomorrow.

Testing: The update
2004-07-23 09:26:16
That's three responses I've had, I'll get god to give me an op over the phone tonight or tomorrow to make it four. shrink_laureate is going away and can't be trusted to give an opinion so I'll ignore him this time. That leaves one volunteer from the forum who I doubt will get his op to me before I go home for the weekend.
darklife was able to give me a detailed summary of the points to improve but only a vague idea of the areas that shouldn't be touched, which is I suppose less important. He's opped most of my previous works so he knew how I like things to look, which made is easier to see where I'd gone wrong I guess.
As far as I can tell no one who has beta tested it, has actually seen the series. If they have they can't remember the names of the characters, or chose not to name them in the details of their opinions hence lines like "the other girl to the one shown here" which although I understand who they mean (Chidori) it still makes me smile

And the results start coming
2004-07-23 04:53:45
The first couple of beta tests have come in and while they disagree on almost every point they're a lot more useful than any I've had before.
I took one look at the length of godix's op and thought "Oh $#!7 it sucks" but actually going through his comments they were mostly little things. Part of the problem was that the song was written as a pseudo 80's pop song which has clearly influenced me towards the end of the video. I will go back and correct it.
Ab's op was breifer and seemed to favour the idea of putting random scenes in. I was trying to condense the plot of the series into something fairly coherent, so I plan to overlook that suggestion. But he had other more useful input.
My usual tester haven't got around to watching it yet and I have two other people from the forums who are writing ops for me (I hope). It looks like my weekend will be spent editing, so it's a good thing my friend can't come down because his sister needs her 3 year old laptop fixing (A job that will take either 5 minutes or require sending back to the manufacturer)
Ah depression we meet again. At least this time I know what I'm doing next.

What time is it?

Beta Testing time!
That's right, my latest AMV rolled of the timeline last night and is ready to be tested. It's a massive departure for me, I've never tried for drama, and certainly never reached it. This time I did at least try.
Rather than relying on my two usual beta testers (One of whom never has time to watch them and the other never has an opinion on *anything*) I have decided to ask for volunteers on the forum. God(Kami-kun/Chris) has given me a space to host the file and I will give teh password detail to a number of people who apply. All I ask is that I get feedback so it can be improved before I upload it for general consumption.
By tomorrow I will be utterly depressed and hoping to work on my next project as soon as possible but for now I can enjoy the limbo feeling that comes between opening it for testing and getting the first critic's opinion.
