JOURNAL: Minion

  • work 2008-05-14 19:20:14 had a call about a priner issue.

her: theres a problem with this printer. and you need someone out here to fix it *employee in the backgorund yells about a network problem* oh, ya. theres a problem with it's network. and you need to come and look at the network and fix it.

me: well, uhm. theres nothing wrong with your network. im connected to the printer right now. whats the problem exactly?

her: its not printing ("it doesn't work" is about as vague as you can get with tech support)

from there i spent 25 minutes on the phone, mostly waiting for her to do what i ask. she spent a good portion of the time with the phone down, and complaining to her co workers about how we're not getting the job done and having to be on the phone for so long (irony.)
for the short time that she did have the phone in her hand, she had an attitude. i was considering hanging up.

the problem could have been solved in under 5 minutes. instead it took 30. gg
  • work 2008-05-11 09:17:20 last night some guy bought booze in a store, then sat in the parkinglot getting ripped.
then got in his van and plowed through the store.

so the security people needed to download the tapes to see what happened.
so i told the store the connection would be slow until it was done.

the store then called me every 10 minutes asking if we "fixed the connection problem", and each time i needed to re-explain that theres no "problem", they just have to wait.
  • work 2008-04-10 18:22:42 caller: YOU GUYS CAME OUT AND INSTALLED A ENW LABLE PRINTER BUT IT STOPPED WORKING AFTER A DAY
    me: stopped working?
    caller: NO POWER
me: have you seen if it's plugged in?
    caller: I Uhh...uhh...hold on.......
    me:...
    caller:...thank you
  • RAGE at work 2008-04-07 18:22:26 first time in awile a caller has really gotten under my skin

a store's connection was down, and the provider was testing to find the problem.
i called the store to help them find the second phone line so they could be on a dialup until the connection was restored.
spent 15 minutes with this guy looking for the phone jack while complaining non-stop about how poorly the store was set up. he found one jack for it, but not anywhere near the router.
if he can't find a phone jack in 15 minutes, it's a lost cause. so i hang up, and a couple of minutes later i see the store's connection come back up on dial-up speed.
which makes no sense, since there router wasn't plugged into a phone line.
so i try to call back to see whats up, and get a busy signal.
    wat.
so on that, i've figured out what he did. after he got off of the phone with me, he plugged the router into the main phone line.
so i email them saying to call me. 5 minutes pass and they don't, so i try calling the POS line, which i hope they've plugged a phone into.
when they answer, i ask them what happened after he got off of the phone with me.
he said "the connection just came back up, and the phones stopped working".
great. hes not admitting to anything. so i figure i'll just walk him though putting everything back how it should be.
when i get him to the router, he finally spills it that he plugged the router into the phone line. i asked him why, and he said "you told me to".
so his story has just changed from nothing happening after hanging up, to him swapping the phone lines and that i told him to. caught him in a lie.

not a funny story, just venting that he swapped the lines and was gonna pin the blame on me. the connection just came back up, so i won't have to talk to the store again tonight.
