  • "you don't have to run." "you don't have to chase me." 2002-06-24 00:39:04 EK: I'm not sure what the archival of the Bebop Photoshop War means; do you want the image sent expressely to you, or are you just going to save the images from the locations posted in the thread?

Saw Bourne Identity and Minority Report over the weekend(and you can reverse the titles! Bourne Report, and Minority Identity! spooky!).
Bourne's got some great "real-life" fighting in it, accompanied by some good intelligence wet-work.

Minority Report...wow. Being an avid reader of Dick(although I haven't read the actual story yet), I expected it to end a half-hour before it actually did. Mad props to Spielburg for somehow wringing an ending from that--that DIDN'T reek of deus-ex-machina, and only really having one minor plothole.

New job starts tomorrow--gonna go to bed early, so I can ride the bus and get there early.

  • YES, WE ARE. 2002-06-20 20:05:27 Machine: *shrug*. This is exactly why I prefer analog or DV. There's just too many things that can go wrong with a purely digital entry.

All my game-creation energy was vacuumed out of me with a huge SUCK last night. I got deathly bored, and only recovered by excess beer and Bangai-O.

Now I've got an urge to go shopping for professional software. GIMP has finally run out of steam for me(coincidentally enough, on EK's Bebop Photoshop War), and I'm really anxious to try out Animation:Master.

  • sexy hard action rock 2002-06-18 03:20:21 I love you guys.
Commentary on a book AND a movie, neither of which I've seen for at least fifteen years, coupled with a competent defense of Don Bluth.
    [Bill]: EXCELLENT!

Job placement successful--starts next monday. It's shirts-n-ties, however.
Been coding a tunnel demo with WildTangent--remembering some game algorithms. Blah. I'll have to throw it up somewhere when I'm done. No complaints about "WT spyware" will be tolerated.

Turns out Gimenez didn't have anything to do with the Forever War novels; "Marvano" did them.
Gimenez' work is still interesting though; he has a very detailed style. This trips him up; the lettering/speech bubbles are very haphazard, and only serve to clog the flow of the art. Displays a very French tone in his art; especially with dem nekid wimmen. Drop him in Heavy Metal(hell, I'd be surprised if he _didn't_ ever do anything for HM), and nobody'd notice. Plot's not very inspired, but ah, what the hell.

I've just used the word "very" in three separate lines, in a neat column. G'night folks.

  • come on! get serious! 2002-06-12 12:04:53 Preparing to leave from Barnes & Nobles in Woodinville last night, "The Fourth Power" by Juan Gimenez is marked down to $7.98. Strike up a conversation with the clerk, who's Satisified That I've Picked Quality. Of course, I'd never heard of Gimenez before tonight, I picked it up because the artwork reminded me of the GNs of Forever War, a favorite of mine.

...of course, I was at B&N for a "How to draw Manga" workshop, because I was bored hanging around the house. Of course it would consist mostly of elementary school and junior high schoolers. Of course it would be led by three fanartist girls "with their own publishing company!", who mostly spouted off "tips" from the How To Draw Manga books(as well as "subtly" recommending the Japanese and English versions at every turn). Of course I had a good laugh or two in the background, trying to hide my sketchbook, and of course I now(especially after going through EK's old sketches) have an urge to get off my duff and practice like a madman.

..I'll stay neutral on Don Bluth since I missed a bunch of them when I was growing up. Much like I missed all the "fantasy adventure" movies like Labryinth, Legend, and Dark Crystal, when I was growing up as well..

  • "...who are you?" 2002-06-08 05:07:42 MC: Yeah, the SMC rocks. I just like to see alternate views on movies I saw when I was growing up.

Marathoned Boogiepop Phantom tonight, after seeing the first disc about six months ago. Take Lain, remove the computer-geek-philosophy, jack up the horror/creepy/gore factor, stir and mix with a heavy dose of audience responsibility, and none of the Lynch escape-hatches. I loved it.
I'm tempted to do a Boogiepop video with Crystal Method's "Killer"; unfortunately while I can see the timing in my head, the lyrics/mood of the song..don't...quite...fit as well as I'd hoped. Dammit.
