JOURNAL: aokakesu (Jay R. Locke)

  • One decade later... 2011-10-15 15:09:17 ..and still getting reviews and e-mails and to this day...

I'm surprised that Odorikuruu has had any staying power surrounded by a cultural group that is dynamic to it's credit, yet fickle to its detriment.

On April 1st 2011, the 10th anniversary of Odorikuruu's release, I checked on the condition of the Dance/FX AMV scene and saw that it was still healthy; managing to make all the right and wrong moves, to learn from them and become a recognized AMV form.

Now for some stuff that really belongs on a blog, but I don't have one.

I didn't disappear from the AMV scene after that summer of 2001 as a strategic "better to go out with a bang than to fade away" move. It's the ordinary choices made everyday in my life then and now that slowly led me away from creating more video art.

I'm nostalgic for that time and would love to get back to AMVs, however a decade later I know more of my limits of time and creativity. Those items are two valuable, personal commodities can be consumed in large quantities by the creation process. For me, it was with some regret to discover that as much as I could strive for it, I could not find enough time and creativity for more videos. I had to learn, as many people do, to more wisely apportion time and creativity for greatest personal value.

I some way, I do what I can to assist the active AMV creators out there. I contribute what I can to the EFF and Canadian groups that fight the good fight against those who would want to make all art and creativity a montize-able(sic), derivative synthetic fund-able, market controllable commodity.

I feel that AMV creators are not just artists, but activists as well. Every release is another statement that human creation cannot solely be defined by what fits neatly into a package and then sold.

    Keep on AMVing.

Don't let the bastards grind you down.
  • Der drouge it werke (sic) 2005-12-27 19:17:28 I wonder what I did wrong the first time. Oh well.
Hope Phade won't hurt me too bad :)
  • ummkay now... 2005-12-27 19:12:31 I logon again and there's that confirm upload staring me in the face.
    Once more unto the breach.

    crosses fingers AND toes
  • Many years on my ass... 2005-12-21 23:17:23 ...and I finally get off of it and upload that big song and dance to Phade's AMV server.

My online life (is there such a thing) is long untouched and the dust bunnies need a serious sweeping. They're threatening the cat.

    Sorry about that guys.

    Peace and Joy!
  • Arigatou Tim :) ...and the Skyworth lives again! 2002-06-19 23:42:47 The waiting for the exam results is going to drive me frickin' looney @_@

    I was in possession of one very dead Skyworth DVD-1050P after having the crap kicked out of it at Anime North 2002 ;_;

Needless to say, I was worried until a glance under the hood showed a few swelled up electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. Hmm. I knew the room had gotten hot with the surround system going full crank and 20-30 people going full crank, but I didn't think it had gotten THAT hot.

So, I applied my mad eletronic skills and swapped all the power supply capacitors. Now I've got that happy old Skyworth goodness once again.

Sage DcDi progessive output. Region free. Macrovision defeated. You'll have to pry this DVD player out of my cold, dead fingers.
