JOURNAL: Underlord Backlash (Terence McCarron)

  • BAAF Report 2001-10-28 14:58:41 I got back from the Big Apple Anime Fest yesterday, (or very early today if you prefer), and it was unbeleivable.

The Anime DVD Shoot-Out was interesting, (Jessica Calvello is a hottie), with Escaflowne and Cowboy Bebop dominating. This was my first con, and I think I ended up with a good start to it. One thing that irked me to no end about the Shoot-Out was that even though Mononoke got nominated for a bunch of categories, Buena Vista didn't even send a sreencap or cover art picture for the presentation, so all we got to seen was a yellow bordered rectangle with "Princess Mononoke Buena Vista" inside of it. Funny thing was, that ended up getting more cheers than any other picture. (First lesson learned of the day: Sarcasm increases when otaku gather in large numbers.) The only awards I remember are that Escaflowne won best menu design and best extras (Club Escaflowne), and Bebop won best audio and DVD of the Year. After that last announcement, there was a "Tank" sing-along. Yup, all seven seconds of lyrics.

After that, me, my girlfriend, her brother, and her mom (yeah, beleive it or not there are parents who are also otakus), all went to the dealer room. Incredible turn out, I got weak in the knees at some of the stuff I saw (Kaiyodo's Vash Ultimate Edition statue, mint in box first series Starscream, Belldandy bust). The three of us got in a good laugh when we found a HG kit of (ahem) 'Gundam Armsmaster Burst' (snicker). I was awestruck. Let's see... I got... Escaflowne Movie OST, Trigun: Spicy Stewed Donut, Two Mix: 150BPM MAX, Ranma 1/2: Big Trouble in Nekonron China, Golden Boy DVD set, and I WON Tekkaman Blade II on DVD at one of the AnimeNation raffles. Oh yeah, a Capsule Corp patch too, now I just need a denim jacket ^_^. One thing I was surprised about is that Tokyopop didn't have a booth... Oh well, I got what I needed by them anyway. Oh yeah, I also picked up a Gunsmith Cats graphic novel for my sister, but after discovering a level of content (Minnie May's OTHER area of expertise) that wasn't in the anime, I decided to have my friend toss it onto E-bay.

There was some really great cosplay in progress. Tatewaki Kunou, Sannosuke Sagara, a plethora of Ranma Saotome's, a Shampoo or two, Gendo, Shinji, Misato, Vash, Suboshi (I took the opportunity to walk up to him and tell him "I just saw you kill a bunch of people the other day" we laughed), Tasuki, Chichiri, Miaka (I think), Tamahome, Mad Hatter (Angel Sanctuary), the bunny girl from Digi Charat, Tuxedo Kamen, Eternal Sailor Moon (impressive costume but it got annoying), Yuffie (FF VII), several Sakura's, Kero-chan, and others I'm sure I forgot to mention. I was surprised there was only one Senshi in attendance. Eh, go fig.

I hit the dealer room a few times, but I've mentioned most of that already. Info on the screenings and the Escaflowne Movie in my next post.

    Ja ne!

  • Divine Inspiration is an Excuse for Rampant Spending 2001-10-08 14:59:50 BADABING-BADABOOM! I am such a genius. I was just walking home from another session of downloads, and it hit me. A Kodocha video. Not just any Kodocha video mind you, but a Kodocha video with EVE 6! Boom. Every other bit of video planning, (Survivor, Bawitba, and WAHAHA!) flew out of my mind and onto the shelf. I now have three goals in life. 1. Obtain a multi-region DVD player (found it, that's my birthday present to myself); 2. Obtain every bit of Kodocha DVD material I can get my grubby little mitts on (found them, that's my Christmas present to myself); 3. Buy every one of Kodocha Anime's volumes of Kodomo no Omocha presently available. (So I can actually understand what I'm watching on the DVDs.)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. The song is "Sunset Strip Bitch" and the videos story is about Sana and three of the 'men' in her life: Hayama, Naozumi, and Tsuyoshi. (Don't let the title of the song fool you, I like Sana.)

    Ja!
  • Inventory for Top 100 2001-10-03 09:51:23 I've started making a list of all the music videos I've seen in the database. I'll just put them all on my list in the order I find them at first, then I'll start sorting out the order of quality.
  • Wow, I have a journal now 2001-10-01 09:34:00 Not much to say really, I missed the deadline for Nekocon FLASH. (wah) Still struggling to get D.C. online. Brinkster, Tripod, and Dreamwater SUCK.
    I need some ramen.
    And Trigun: Lost Past

Have to start planning Christmas gifts. Yup, I buy EARLY.

I am now a Newfound Glory fan, thank you MeriC.
