  • No Bento :( 2009-04-06 19:44:59 I didn't make a bento today because I wasn't feeling very well. :( Instead, I finished the little piece of sandwich leftover from yesterday and had a chicken ramen instant cup noodle. Still good, but not as fun. Now, Passover should be interesting if I keep this up. Not, allowed to have bread, rice, beans, etc. I'll have to use special Kosher for Passover food. This will probably start with my lunches on April 9th until April 17th. That should be fun to see though, if I take pictures.
  • Bento 1 2009-04-05 17:23:26 Hi! Today I made my first bento! ^_^ I've been interested in making them for a while now, and finally got enough nerve to make one. Bento is basically a Japanese lunch box. (It can be cute, colorful, complex, anything you want.) I didn't make a traditional Japanese one, and I don't have a traditional box, but that's ok. My dad said there might be some cheap bento boxes at our market, so I guess we'll look there next time, and I might get one! I used a plastic tupperware, that was a long shallow rectangle shape. There's a website I think it's justbento.com, where they explain that you can use tupperware or any container for that matter if you can't afford a traditional one, so that's nice. Also, somewhere else I read online said that for a woman my age the container needs to hold up to 600 ml or something, this one's exact. Not that it really matters though. ^_^' Plus, it helps with having a smaller portion size, so it's good at keeping you healthy.

Today I made a sandwich bento. Sandwich had: sliced cajun turkey breast, colby jack cheese, and a sauce I make with horseradish and mayo, and whole wheat bread. (So, good!) I sliced the sandwich lengthwise and filled half my bento with it. I saved the rest of the sandwich for next time. On the top quarter of it, I made a salad. Salad: mix of greens (like spinach, lettuce, etc.) and some honey mustard vinaigrette. That was tasty too. The last quarter was apple slices and chunks. I separated each section by lettuce, I don't need that plastic expensive stuff. That way I could also eat the dividers. Plus, it kept the dressing from going into the sandwich and apples. It was really nice. I forgot to take a picture of it, but maybe next time. ;) It's a fun way to have lunch.
  • Life and Driving 2008-08-30 19:38:04 I drove some more today. Not much but a little around the neighborhood. Haven't drove in over 3 weeks. Mainly because I've felt sick to my stomach. I'm trying to slowly get off of some meds, but it's making me sick. :'(

I also have been watching Gintama, and that's been fun. I love that show, it's uplifting, funny, and can be serious all at once. I've watched a lot of it because when I'm sick I don't want to do anything.

I'm a little depressed too because school started for my college, but I can't go until next semester, because they want to see me "better" before I start another semester. I'm hoping what I'm doing at home is "better." I got my permit, working on my license, I'm learning Japanese on my own, I got penpals, I've tried to get a job, I'm going to Israel in December, I'm getting better meds, I have doctors now that listen to me, I even drew some manga, and I've kept up a web blog about Japan. Surely, this will show them that I'm better. It's so annoying when they are so vague about what they want me to do!

Anyways, I must be feeling better to be able to post something! Hope things are well with everyone. Bye! <^.^>
  • New Outlook on Life 2008-06-14 17:47:06 Hi! I have a new look at my life now, after going to synagogue today. That when I'm down I can at least say I survived 2 near death experiences, and that I am still here. These experiences being I almost died of Pneumonia and the next year of blood clots. So, even though I don't have a liscence yet, can't go back to school in the fall, don't have a job yet, at least I am alive and able to try and do most of those things. Maybe it just hasn't been my time yet for a lot of these things. So, I will keep, trying, but no matter what at least I'm still alive. I should be thankful for what I have done in my life as it is, for now. I guess this is a more forgiving outlook on my life than I had before. I have accomplished a lot and I don't think I give that much credit. So, I will also try to learn more about Japan on my own and study as much as I can. I will also try to get a job, just don't feel horrible if I can't find one. I will also try my best at driving every once in a while. Oh, and I hope to get new tires on my bike soon, so I can excersize more. Well, hope everyone's feeling well. Bye!
  • Folklife 2008-05-27 20:33:37 Hi everyone! Well, I had a lot of fun last Sunday. I went to a thing in Seattle called Folklife Festival. It's a festival about international music, crafts, food, and other things. The first thing I did there was watch part of the Arab show. First there was a professional Egyptian Oud player. It was really interesting. His name is Maurice Rouman. Then, there was a guy named Nassem who played his keyboard, recordings, and sang. I liked him a lot more.

Next, I went to a Chinese dance group. The costumes were awesome, and the music was cool too! I really liked their water dance. They had such flowy dresses and were walking around like they were in a ballet on tiptoes.

After this I had a piroshky at the Russian food stand for dinner. A piroshky's like a bun filled with beef and cheese. It was really good. Then, I had an apple dumpling with ice cream and apple cinnamon syrup on top. That was even better!

Then, I went and looked at the crafts booths. There were things from Guatemala, India, Africa, Russia, and more. That was really fun. Then, I decided to watch the Brazil show. After that, we watched this yo- yo champion do his thing. After all this I was exhausted and tired of all the crowds, so I went home.
