JOURNAL: segaismysavior (Craig Buchanan)

  • ANOTHER new vid... in progress 2002-04-07 19:31:17 You'd think I could just finish the video I was already working on and was already stunned by, but of course not. Yup, started another one, and it's EVEN BETTER then the one I had previously began. So now I have 2 projects to work on, though the latest one shouldn't take much more than a month to make due to little to no effects. It really doesn't need them, the images and song already make it spectacular, though it is more aggressive and action based if you can dig that. If you've seen Otaku Vengeance (my "fathers", read my bloody profile) it's right up their alley.

If anyone actually reads these, don't download my older vids and expect them to be anywhere near what I'm promising, cause those are so old and not made with Premiere. I've spent a crap load of hours learning Premiere and it's really paying off. Feel free to download, of course, but I can't promise anything do to their age, but people still seem to like them for no reason.

Time to start Japanese homework, I can hardly wait...
  • Back to School 2002-03-31 21:25:25 Spring Break is over and what did I accomplish in that time? Ummmm..... I got to watch Soultaker? That really was the highlight, not only cause home is really boring but because it's an amazing freakin series. Buy, rent, download, steal, do what ever you have to watch this series. I've got the first DVD and I would kill to get some more, but no more DVDs come out till Apirl 23.

Now I get to pretend that I give a rat's ass about my Art on Internet class and come up with some lame design for a page that I have to fake I'm interested in creating... wooohooo...
  • Spring Break, for what purpose does it exist? 2002-03-25 09:03:38 Time has recently been zooming faster than a piece of crap import car with a fake second exaust and spoiler. It's currently Spring Break, and rather than be able to go out and enjoy myself, I get to sit around at home on a dialup and DO SCHOOL WORK. I love that just because an assignment has been on the syllabus from day one, that gives the teacher the right to expect you to have a project due immediately after the break. To top that off, I just realized today that I have a final exam and final project due on May 16th. Regardless, I WILL NOT miss seeing episode 2 that day but it will take some tricky planning to fit it in, or to get tickets for a late showing, which will likely be immpossible. Bitching concludes.

AMV time has been cut down due to all this work, which is a crying shame if I expect to have this thing finished by early May. Sometimes I wonder if I give too much of a crap towards how perfect my videos are, not that they are/will be perfect, but I always have to fight with myself over whether or not I can improve it or just stop and declare it a finished product. I end up spending waaaaaaaay too much time on perfecting small segments when I should be laying out less completed sections. Here's hoping April doesn't fly by as fast as March, cause I'm gonna need every ounce of talent and every precious minute to flesh this puppy out into something great.

Really wish I could just be at school right now, cause being at home will get me working on school assignments, but I miss the internet and my college T3. Then again, I almost wish it were summer already, but mostly for the money and lack of long term assignments. I'd still be in the same boat internet wise, not to mention I'd have to live at home for 3 months instead of a mere week. Guess my bitching didn't conclude after all... Time for work, woo.
  • Adventures in AMVs 2002-03-09 19:26:16 Guess it's about time I started using this here Journal dealy, it's free so why the hell not?

Let's see, I've began my 3rd AMV not long ago, not gonna what it is or what it's about, but it's gonna be a long time in the making for certain. I'm hoping to submit it to this years Otakon, but that's assuming I can complete it on time and it turns out well enough to even bother. I spent easily 6 hours on Thurs evening working on one effect and was shocked to notice that it runs barely 2 seconds long! The things I do for my "art" will easily exhaust me if I go at it with this pace. It isn't a typical effect either, it's been done before, but not in this manner or even for the fact that it takes this long to complete. Can't wait to show it to people and see if my efforts were worth it.

As for watching AMVs, I've seen some goodies by Fluxmeister and Uncle Milo (Comic Mule Studios), so be sure to check those out in the near future in the case that you are lazy and did not know better. Flux just put out another Esca vid and I couldn't be happier. He has easily impressed me since Feb (last month) and has done it more times than any creator has in 1 year. He either must be praised heavily... or must be stopped!

School is easily the most helpful but most distracting element in regards to my AMV creation. I can't believe how much a simple Digital Cinema class taught me about Premiere and After Effects. Mind you, it was all self taught, but I was able to put those programs into practice with DV footage and make fun of myself or my beliefs all for a grade. That was the good, and the rest of my classes: bad. Project, test, midterm, quiz, project, test, reading, test. That seems to be the norm in college, so to conclude: Gen Eds and Pre-reqs blow me without permission, but Digital Imaging and Animation classes rock my world old skool.
