  • Got it! 2005-05-10 07:27:11 The mailperson rang during my lunch break, I got my Adobe Premiere Pro finally delivered! Well, alright, it's the 1.0 version and I bought it second-hand from Ebay, but I could have it for a nice price, it was a good opportunity to seize (it's hard for me to envision paying 600$ or so for a software for something that is a "hobby"... I don't have that much money, after all T_T).

There was the user guide with it, the person I bought it from did things pretty well; I wonder how much I'll need said guide, given that I'm no total newbie at using Premiere, even if I know from having read about it that the Pro version is different. I guess I'll see by myself later on today, when I get to seriously try it and make sure I understand the ropes without making any AMV with it, hee hee :)
  • The joy of working with PAL footage 2005-05-09 11:16:22 Darnit, I knew that it'd probably cause me a good deal of problems, but to this extent... yuck.

We can find French-subtitled DVD series for quite a cheap price here - partly because they're sold boxed (as complete seasons) and partly because there aren't tons of shiny bonuses on the DVDs. Now, regarding extracting footage from them to make AMVs? That's another matter. We're in France... which means that all the anime DVDs I bought in France are in... yes, that's it, PAL footage. And from what I could see dduring my various tries so far, very likely with blended field decimation instead of being set to 25 fps from FILM sources first. Yuck. Yuck, yuck, and yuck.

I'm experimenting with AVIsynth filters, for the moment. I need to also go through the full process, see if perhaps it only looks crap when watched frame by frame in VirtualDubMod, and won't be noticeable once edited, exported and encoded. I don't want to spend countless hours cleaning frames manually or some crap, I'm all for giving it a try and put extra effort in having good footage instead of downloaded stuff, but not if it means spending ten hours of cleaning on every 2-seconds clips I need for my vid. That'd be sheer waste of time, and probably for not much result in the end... T_T

Eeeeeh, well. I'm not done experimenting yet, in any case. I really hope I can find a way to minimize the problem, if not for getting rid of it. I don't want to be forced to edit with sources that are still interlaced, as I feel it could cause problems in the end...
  • The mystery of YUV unveiled 2005-05-08 12:11:22 While browsing through the guides here, I've discovered a page that I had completely missed every time I had searched through all of this, called "Colorspace"...

...Well, poop. If I had seen that earlier, it'd immediately have made sense to me that YUV = Lab *smacks head*

That'd sure have made things easier to understand regarding this point...

    Frigging language differences.
  • Because I forgot to mention it... 2005-05-08 02:30:18 My "new" website is finally done and online. As I wrote previously, it's not a very complex nor original layout, I simply was frigging tired of this crap I was previously calling a website; this one at least should be way easier to navigate, and not as uselessly-heavy on the code as the former one was.

    And it's freshly updated, too.

Site's URL is in my profile, but just for the record: http://paradygma.com/studio/index.html
  • My second-first, in a way 2005-05-07 17:19:36 Finally, I've uploaded my second AMV to the server (I had put an indirect link first, but on my own server, I need to store it in RAR files, and several of them on top of it, which was just so annoying, so local download it will be from now on). I know that the theme, song and anime won't be very popular, but in all honesty, I don't care much, I really did this one "for my own fun". I liked Angel's Egg, I like Siouxsie and her crew, who cares about what's popular or not as AMVs, as long as the fun's here for the maker! :)

So, yes, my second vid is done with Angel's Egg footage... Second vid, or second-first, I should say, as I really feel like I had to learn everything from the start again. I'm glad that it's over now. Next time, I'll definitely focus on the more technical aspects, I'd really need a better understanding an experience about it... unfortunately, I'm being a bit dense about this, it's a knowledge that takes time for me to assimilate... ah, well!
