As if I hadn't enough things to do - as usual
2005-05-06 10:13:17
Yesterday being some national religious-stuff holiday (here you can already guess what a spiritual person I am), I decided to use some of the free time and revamp my AMV website while waiting for my encoding attempts to finish each time. My old site was ugly, pathetic, scrapped in a haste "to have something online", and a real nightmare code-wise that any decent webdesigner would have smacked down in half a second. I'll never make such stupid use of frames. Ever. Again. *pukes*.
Well, to be honest, the new version is still something I made quickly "to have something online", I just didn't have the time to commit to the full conception of a detailed website. It's less a pain to navigate and display, at least.
Tonight I'll check the last few details on the pages, and then I'll put it on.

My poor head
2005-05-05 13:30:01
Earlier on today, I wondered if I shouldn't get the grasp of this AVISynth thingy mentioned throughout the website, so I headed to the guides section and had a first look through all of this. Somehow, the "script" notion is something that has always frightened me - I'm quite good with understanding software or tinkering with hardware usually, but I'm way less good with anything remotely related to scripts. Always had problems to understand PERL, properly design CGI scripts, etc etc. I guess it's just not "visual" enough for my mind to go through this without encountering heavy understanding problems.
I'm still unsure of how I'll be able to manage this... but what I want to try is, for my next AMV, to completely follow the process this time. I hadn't done this thoroughly three years ago, which I deeply regret now, so I'll do everything using the methods from this site - extraction, scripts, the likes, whatever. I'll find "my own methods" someday, perhaps, when I'm more experienced.
As said, though, this will have to be for my next AMV, which I already have the DVDs for. I hope that by then I'll have at least begun to see a light at the end of the scripting tunnel ;)

A thought that occurred to me
2005-05-05 04:07:42
I think I know (or at least, suppose) what I did to my Angel's Egg files three years ago. At the time, we had bought a bunch of cheap DVDs and I would encode them in DivX so that my boyfriend could take the movies to Paris and watch them on his laptop (which, evidently, wasn't equipped with a DVD player). I'm now wondering if I didn't use the same method on my own files, and turned them into DivX files as well... which *could* be a logical hypothesis, as what is left of them is in AVI. I'll probably never know for sure, unless I can remember, but I did so much encoding by then, one DVD after the other, and most likely not following "the right process" for AMVs, that it's all so blurred in my mind. Ah, bah. For my next vid, in any case, I'll follow the guides on this site point by point, if only to make sure that I don't screw up this time!
Note for further use - let's not store my source files as compressed if I want to use them later on for a vid. Silly, silly me *rolleyes*

I am so not reasonable
2005-05-04 18:02:34
It's past midnight and I'm still up... been quite some time I hadn't done that, until recently, that is. It looks like the geek factor has kicked in again full-force, and that I'm neglecting my needed sleep hours in order to stay on the comp longer *rolleyes* Well, at least tomorrow is a holiday, so it's not like I need to get up uber early and focus on work.
Let's guess what I'm doing... hanging up on the web while my latest encoding is finishing, evidently. I think I'm pretty much done with this AMV, I'm feeling satisfied with the way it has turned on, its profile/description is (almost) fully written already, and I'm now hoping that my encoding settings are appropriate too! I still must and will refrain myself from uploading it tonight... I know how this goes, a good night of sleep would allow me to give it a better final check tomorrow, and haste in this case is never good. I know it's not one of the best vids ever, however, I still want it to be, well, at least "decent"... not some crap junk thrown together just because "it's been a while I haven't added anything to the database" (yeah, well, I know of people like this, after all...).
Blah, I'm babbling. Silly tired ole' me :)

Xvid...
2005-05-03 18:02:36
I'm not sure of what inspired me to have a look at the guide on how to prepare an AMV for distro using the Xvid codec, but whatever substance I had put in my coffee on that day, well... was a very good idea! Gee... I know that I'd be supposed to aim at the most people possible yadda-yadda, and that this probably would mean the good old MPEG-1, but the hell with that. The output quality is too good for me to pass on it, and frankly, given how many people nowadays download stuff and all, if they're not able to figure out what a codec is, then they're beyond hopes anyway *lol*
Okay, all joking put aside, I'll very, very likely encode with Xvid. I was impressed, really.
