  • Old Journal Entries... 2009-01-14 14:38:58 There really needs to be an easier way to scroll through these things. I tried to check out some old entries, and it's ridiculous trying to find a specific date. I used to write an entry every day, which makes flipping page through page very painful. lol

I don't remember if I've said anything yet, but I'm going to be leaving for Australia with my girlfriend at the end of January (2009). That's right, in two weeks! Total craziness. Even crazier is the fact that we're going to be gone for over half a year! This is something I never would have done without the pushing I've received from my girlfriend. Anyone who knows me, knows me as a laid back, quiet kind of guy. The type of person who goes for a walk, soaks in his surroundings and is satisfied with that. Once in awhile a little trip is nice, but flying off to the other side of the world is way outside my comfort zone. lol But I adapt well, and it should be a great trip. What I'm more looking forward to is living with my girlfriend and getting to spend everyday with her.

So the past few weeks has been packing, and getting things ready. I've been organizing everything on my computer, this way it'll be fine for storage for awhile. I bought a Dell Mini9 (nice little netbook), and seeing what I should tranfer over has been a pain as well. The most has been transfering my dvds onto my computer. I don't have any software to rip the movies, so I'm using my capturing equipment for my tv and recording it in real time. You can imagine how long it's taking, especially when something goes wrong 2 hours into a 3 hour movie, and I have to restart the whole thing from the beginning. -_-

Anyways, just thought I'd check in. Lots of work still to do. ^_^

  • An anime itch... 2008-11-30 23:27:48 I haven't bought much anime in quite a long time. That's impressive for a guy who used to buy box sets whenever they were on sale, regardless of what series it was. lol

So tonight I went on amazon and bought the Speed Grapher dvd set and the Anime Legends Cowboy Bebop set. I've never bought Cowboy Bebop, mostly because I wanted the Perfect Sessions collection. But that thing was always like $300 or something stupid like that. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the cheaper Anime Legends sets. Why be against cheaper anime? Well, the packaging usually sucks. I'm a big fan of good packaging. Nothing turns me off of a product more than a cheap looking case and lousy art. It's actually funny how annoyed I get when I buy a regular movie dvd, open up the case and there's nothing in it but the disc. Just a plan grey case with no insert. It really disppoints me.

So I've been at a bit of a crossroads with these Anime Legends sets. On one hand, all these great anime series have been coming out at very affordable prices (Cowboy Bebop, Witch Hunter Robin, Vision of Escaflowne...). On the other, they all come in these single or paired cases that are wide enough to fit the whole series, with unoriginal art and the giant Aime Legends label at the top of the box. [sigh] I don't know how those people do it who case nothing about the case, and only about the contents of the disc. lol

Anyways, I'll give this one a try. If it works out, and I don't mind all that much, maybe I'll pick up another set or two. If it bugs me too much, at least I won't have broken the bank or anything like that. lol I guess that's all for now. And I'm at 14101.

  • In and out of old cycles... 2008-11-02 02:14:54 Usually, I don't have time to go around doing anything online anymore. Back in the day, when I used to sleep only a handful of hours a night, and not have a girlfriend, I'd stay up to 2am everyday on MSN Messenger and message boards. Now, I either spend my free time with my girlfriend, or trying to catch up on a whole crap load of thigns that need to get done. lol This past week, my girlfriend's been in Calgary visiting her friend from school. Meaning I've had a lot more time than I'm used to on my hands. lol

First off, I've been logging on to Messenger every night. Haven't done that in about 3 years. Most of the people I used to talk to aren't even online anymore. It's a weird thing actually being a part of a transitional period. Seeing people slowly disappear from a certain way of life. Though I have to admit, I think Facebook is also a huge reason for that. I remember when I used to log on just to see everyone's Screen name to find out what's been going on. Now, that's one of the main focuses of Facebook. That and wall posts. People updating their Status every other day, and messaging each other regarding that Status. Almost removes Messenger from the loop. Like I said, it's a weird thing being a part of a transitional time.

Personally, it's the looking back on it that feels the strangest. You don't know how often I think about how only a few years ago I used to watch AMVs on loop on my computer everday. Now, I only watch a couple a month. The same can be said with anime too. I have so MANY anime dvds. The vast majority of them have never been viewed, just taking up shelf space. I still love anime. I collect the art book, and have pick up a figurine every now and then, but the shows just don't have the same hold over me. To think, it was only a year ago this Fall when I fell in love with Death Note. Now that's a scary thought.

I guess the obvious statement would be that I'm changing. You know, in the growing up kind of way. I'm not saying I'm out growing anime. lol Just my attention is gravitating towards other things. Come on. I'm 22 now. Considering I've been doing his for 8 some odd years... A third of my life is a huge chunk of time. lol

Anyways, just thought I'd share a few points. Might as well make use of the extra hour we gain tonight. lol

  • The disappearing act... 2008-09-14 20:23:32 Where in the world have I been?

Let's just say out and about. lol I haven't even logged in to the org in like months. To think there used to be a time when I used to be here daily, reviewing vids and posting on the messages boards. How things have changed.

Speaking of change... I'm done school! Four years of University are all finished. I've completed my Bachelor of Architectural Science at Ryerson University. Awesome huh? It feels so weird to not be in school anymore, especially since I really liked school. Ya, I'm one of those people who liked school. It's a very independent atmosphere. You do the work, you don't do the work... For the most part, the only person affected is you. It's nice.

Ugh, as usual, I'm haivng trouble typing while listening to music. lol -_- It's a very annoying trait of mine. I tend to listen to the lyrics, which get mixed up with the words I'm saying in my head to type down. It's like how I have trouble reading and listening to music at the same time too. Talk about not being able to multitask. lol This is why I tend to listen to a lot of anime (japanese) or classical music. Without any words, my mind is able to focus a lot better.

Right now I'm working full time. I've worked at a building consulting firm for the past 3.5 months (summer) and now that I'm done school, will actually continue through September. My first Sept in something like 18 years where I will not be beginning a new school year. Freaky.

As usual, I shall update on the anime/gaming scene. Been picking up quite a few games for my Wii and DS. Too many to name off all of them (Mario Kart Wii, Guitar Hero 3, N+, etc...) and surprisingly enough, I'm actually playing some of them! I have a bad habit of buying, and not playing. But with the majority of my friends off to school for further education (teacher's college, etc...), I actually have a bit more time on my hands. As for anime, nothing too new. Been buying a few more dvds, just because they're cheap. I've been preferring art books lately for some reason. Perhaps a subconscious desire to further my art career? Probably not. lol

Right now, I'm in Ottawa actually, for work. Only here for another week though. The nation's capital city definitely lives up to it's name. So many world-class buildings. It's ridiculous! A must for architecture students everywhere.

Anyways, it's time for a break. I'm borrowing my girlfriend's laptop right now. She came to visit me in Ottawa, and said I could borrow it for the next week. Very sweet, but now I've just spent the past 4 hours doing nothing but browsing the web! lol Must learn a little self control. Hopefully when I get home I'll pop in a little more. Reading my last couple of posts, it seems I still have some unfinished reviews to write up. -_- Wow, now that's embarrasing.

  • Busy schedule... 2008-04-20 02:14:39 This is becoming a common occurence, me apologizing for not having kept my promise of writing AMV opinions. Unfortunately, things have just gotten crazy busy, and considering the time of the day I usually work on the computer, it doesn't it make it very convinient to loop AMVs over and over with my roommate asleep and being a ligth sleeper. But I do sincerely apologize for not having written many of the opinions people have asked of me in the past few months. I promise that I will not forget, though I do need more time.

Classes are done, but the work does not seem to have lightened up. I still have plenty of projects due during the next couple of weeks, though luckily I only have one exam. The biggest challenge right now is finding a job. I've been going to interviews and such, and it's been eating up my time. Especially when I have to go home for a day, get a car, do the interview, then spend the night at home, and come back the next day. A simple interview could eat away an entire day. -_- Hopefully within the next couple of days I'll know whether or not I've got one locked in.

Anyways, got to run. It's late right now, and my girlfriend is sleeping in the other room. I feel guilty about letting her go to sleep while I stay up doing work because I should be spending time with her. I'll make it up to her tomorrow. And right now, I'm at 13819.
