JOURNAL: Anime Jedi

  • New opinion option... 2005-10-28 20:21:50 I was actually going to write up some reviews yesterday, but I hit a snag. Turns out there's this new thing where you can't leave a review unless the org knows you've downloaded the AMV. Sounds practical, unless you only download DIRECT or INDIRECT vids. So because some people have multiple hosts, the site won't let me write anything because it thinks I haven't watched the vid yet. Nothing like finally getting around to doing something, but then being shut down.

Halloween is coming up. Am I going to be doing anything special? Nope, not necessarily, just like last year. Not a huge fan, and I have a lot of other things to get done anyways. lol

Not much else to say right now. I'm going to head back to school (Studio) and get some more work done. I have a feeling I'll be spending most of my weekend working on a series of projects. -_-

  • I shed a tear for the industry... 2005-10-22 23:17:25 Pathetic dubs... I can just picture a group of people in a board room trying to figure out what to write as a character's script when faced with a difficult scene. But sometimes I just can't fathom how they actually conclude on some of the "bs" they use in their shows. Do they go home at night thinking that it's actually not that important because they won't be the ones watching the show, just stupid children?

I'm talking about One Piece right now. I don't usually watch it that often. Up to now, I had just thought of it as a below average dub. But today's episode just had this one scene that totally shocked me. It's a part where this girl named Ms. Kaiya (sp?) is being threatened to sign her will (fortune) over to a pirate. When being pursued, she grabs one of the ennemy's weapons, and motions to threaten to kill herself. She takes the circle knife and holds it to her own throat, but what does her voice actor say? "Don't move or I'll use your own weapon against you!" The ennemy responds "Don't do it! My blade is too powerful for you! It will turn against you!" All this is happening while her face is in anguish because of the consideration she must confront of taking her own life. To actually go that far because of the fear of demonstrating self sacrifice to younger viewers? Ugh... That script is so disguisting I would actually consider never watching another dubbed episode of One Piece ever again. That's how much it bothers me. There is no excuse for that. I don't care if they want the show to fill a children's slot Saturday mornings on Fox. It's unacceptable.

  • Lack of sleep is catching up to me... 2005-10-22 02:22:25 Ugh... Something's pounding on my head. It can't be the fact that I average 4 hours of sleep a night, can it? lol A couple of nights with 5 hours, a couple of nights with 2 hours, and we can't forget about napping during class. lol ~_^

I have no drive to get anything done right now. Brain is feeling mumbly. It's not being very clear at the moment. lol

Oh, I did however go to my first University anime night today. It was a special night because it was an anime/video game tournament night. Basically we watched anime on a projector, and played games on GameCube, PS2 and Xbox. Oh ya, and played DDR on a computer. Not too exciting, but I did almost won some anime DVDs by raffle. ^_^ Maybe I'll go to one or two more before hte year is over.

Funny how you always have a billion things to do, but when you finally have the time to do something, you never know which one to start with, with fear of missing out something more important. I've barely taken the dust off my GameCube recently, I have several dozen of anime DVDs to watch, things to buid, paintings to create, homework to finish, people to visit, dinner to eat, rooms to clean, television to watch, books to read, textbooks to read, AMVs to download/review, computer graphics to create, newspapers to read/cut, a bed to sleep in, laundry to finish, files to organize, pictures to take... I know everyone always has these kinds of things to worry about, I just don't know how everyone conceals their frustration from the rest of the world so well. 0_0

Well, I'm off to do... something.

  • Another splurge... 2005-10-19 03:42:12 The things I do, and the distances I go just for a good sale.

Today I found another Walmart. Remember Thanksgiving weekend (Canada) and how I spent a lot on anime? Well, did the same thing today. It's like they're just trying to get rid of all their spare anime! I bought Ai Yori Aoshi (4th volume), Haibane Renmei (2nd & 4th), Niea_7 (2nd & 4th), Mahoromatic (Something more Beautiful, 1st) and Gatekeepers 21 (1st). So many new DVDs. Unfortunately, not all of it is that great (especially when it comes to the dubbed edition). But for the most part, seeing all the good looking animation of new shows is just plain sweet.

Staying up all night tonight? Ya, I suppose I will be doing that. I've been wanting to get a few things done, (which will never happen), not to mention have dinner. True, it's already 3:35am, but I guess that can make for a good breakfast. lol

Reviews? I'm trying to get into the mindset and start download AMVs again, but I just can't start. It's be hard to stay in the top 50 most opinionated without any new opinions. lol

Today I had tons of energy. Why? I actually had a full night's sleep last night in order to be well rested for my midterm. It had bene awhile since I last took the time to get dressed for bed. ~_^

Anyways, I should get something to eat. McDonald's, toast and cookies can only keep me living for so long. ^_^

  • Censorship... 2005-10-17 03:59:00 Sometimes it's noticeable, somtimes it's not. Nevertheless, there's almost always two versions somewhere out there.

    [Spoiler]

[sigh] It's been a while since I've done this. I accidently hit the "back" key on my keyboard (which send me backwards one internet page in history), and lost what I had written for my Journal entry. It's so annoying trying to remember all the witty things you spontaneously had come up with the first time around. lol

Anyways, I'm talking about Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Awesome movie. I had heard a while ago that there were heavy cuts, and then a Director's Cut later released. But for some reason I had always thought I had the uncut version. I suppose it's because, for being cut up, it flowed really well. I'm so used to choppy anime where cuts are left so obvious, it creates holes in the story. But not in this movie. In the original, Robin shoots and kills the Joker. In the cut version, Robin backs Joker up until he trips and electricutes himself. They didn't just take something out, they created a whole new scene. I'm thankful for that. But being a fan of Batman, I suppose I owe the series a favour, and should pick up the uncut version to experience the movie the way it was meant to be. ~_^

Nothing too new otherwise. Long weekend full of projects. Because of all the work, I slept in this morning (noon, since I went to bed around 5:00am). That's the reason why I'm still up now. Much easier to stay up all night when you've had a full night's rest to work with. lol

I've made a few changes to my website. I'm trying to add all of my school projects, and that might be done by next week. It would be nice to also make some graphics to spruce things up, but this week is brutal with two projects and a midterm. Like Bruce Wayne says "Who sleep anymore?"
