The movie marathon continues...
2005-07-08 03:46:05
I just finished watching Catch me if You Can. The one with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. Decent movie. Not as good though as I've heard. Quite an amzing story though.
Yesterday I watched Birthday Girl, in a fastforwarded state. I didn't have time to watch it all (though it's only an hour and a half), but I still wanted to get a quick fix. Decent movie. Starring Nicole Kidman, the acting was guaranteed to be good. ~_^
The night before that, I went out and saw Crash. That was a pretty scary movie. Talk about racism at it's worst. There were some points in that movie that I just wanted to leave, because the situations made me sick to my stomach. But the ending was a little happier, so it ended well.
So tired right now. But it's too late to try and get some sleep. I basically have to be up in 3 hours. Just enough time to clean up somethings I've had to do for the past few weeks. I just hope I don't fall asleep during my break at work. That could be desastrous if I don't wake up with the buzzer. -_-

Movies, movies and more movies...
2005-07-05 00:57:31
It seems that this summer will be devoted to enritching my knowledge in the field of motion pictures. lol
I just saw The Hours tonight, and Equilirium this past weekend. The Hours was a great movie. Confusing, and needed lots of research after watching it once to understand most of it, but the mu..
[hears huge crack of thunder. Checks out that it's pouring rain outside, and returns to the computer]
Anyways, the music was amazing. I have no specific idea, but I just loved listening to it. And it felt like a pretty short movie too. I suppose anything is short after watching a three hour movie (Dogville). This one also starred Nicole Kidman, along with Maryl (sp?) Streep and Julianne Moore.
The movie's basically about Virginia Woolf's novel, Mrs Dalloway, and how it involves the lives of three women in different time preriods. Kidman plays Virgian Woolf as she's writing the novel. Moore plays a housewife reading the novel. And Streep plays a woman being a modern day Mrs. Dalloway. The movie can be very confusing, and needs at least two viewings to have a good understanding of it. But it's a nice story about women who are dealing with suicide because of thier currents living arrangements, and are finally taking their lives into their own hands.
Equilibrium was a good movie. I had always wanted to see it, but only really rented it so my father would have something to watch in the midst of all these movies I've been renting. It's about how in the future man outlaws anything to do with emotion so to avoid fear and hate, which leads to a world without war and suffering. But many hide underground in order to keep their emotional and human lives. It's basically an action movie with moral lessons to be learned. I've always wanted to see it after watching a music video someone had made on this site with it. I think I wrote a review for it too... lol Reviews... Now there's something I should start doing again. lol

Live 8 all over the world...
2005-07-02 11:44:35
Yesterday was Canada Day. Fun day. My girlfriend and I went to Canada's Wonderland for the day, and enjoyed ourselves. Nothing too exciting, but we got to see some fireworks by the end of the day.
Today Live 8 is happening all over the world. I was hoping to start watching at the beginning, but I suppose I woke up too late, and only started watching part way through the London show. Right now the Barrie show in Canda is taking priority. Barrie... Sounds so funny to list Barrie along side with cities like Philadelphia, Tokyo, London, Rome, etc... Oh well, that's what happens when you throw something together last minute, all the good places are already booked up, especially on the long weekend. lol
Right now I'm getting my last taste of Dogville before I have to send it back. Well, only the ending, since the rest of the movie is a little disturbing to shove down my throat at the last minute.
Later today I'm going to Niagara Falls with my girlfriend's family. Should be interesting spending the night at her grandmother's house. The only unfortunate thing is that I won't be back until tomorrow night. So combine this with Wonderland, and my entire long weekend has disappeared. -_- Oh well. ^_^

My real life Journal...
2005-06-28 23:14:00
Think it's been awhile since I've used this Journal? I write in my personal Journal at home about every 3 weeks!
Argh... I cut my left hand the other day making a sandwich. I was cutting the bread in my hand, and once I went all the way through the bread, I cut part of my hand. Not smart. One of those things people are always warning you about, but you assure you're not stupid enough to keep sawing once you've cut all the way through the bread. The cut is not big. But it's in the joint of my pinky finger, and it refuses to heal. Everytime I look at it, it still seems wet. o_0 And because of it's position, I can't even put a bandage on it. -_-
My girlfriend and I couldn't find "Les Misérables" anywhere. I wanted to rent it the other day, but my movie store did not have it. This time we tried her movie store, but not there either. It's frustrating because it's not that small a movie. I mean, Liaam Neeson was in it! (My new favourite male actor, my favourite female is Nicole Kidman of course)
I feel horrible. I wanted to make a gift for my girlfriend's sister for her birthday, but never got around to it. It's now a month overdue, but I still feel like I should finish it. The truth is that I probably won't get anything from her on my birthday, but that's missing the point entirely. I said I would do it, and I will. The question is simply, when?

A story of the evil of man...
2005-06-26 05:11:05
I don't think I've ever been more satisfied with an ending of a movie like that of Dogville. [still overwhelm with emotion]
[SPOILERS]
For those of you who have not seen this movie (which I have a good idea is a great many of you), I suggest you do. However, under great discretion (if that's the right word to use here), for it has a powerful story about the human nature that resides in all of us.
It stars Nicole Kidman (quickly becoming my favourite actor of all time), in an amazing performance. The story is about a beautiful young woman who wanders into the rocky Colorado town of Dogville. She has been persued and is looking for shelter. The small town of about 15 people take her in. However, once they find realize that powerful people are searching for her, they start making demands, in exchange for the risk of habouring her. An interesting fact is that the entire movie takes places in a big white room, with a pavement floor. The town is represented by the plan drawn out on the ground, sort of like a life size floor plan on the town. The only props are those that would probably be found in plays, like tables, chairs, trees, lamp posts, etc... Lighting, music and the characters of this story.
This is where the spoilers begin.
After abusing their power over her, she confronts all the townspeople with all the injustices that have befallen her on their behalf. They decide she's too dangerous and turn her in to the mob boss that was searching for her throughout the year she stayed in Dogville. Upon arrival we learn she is really the mob boss' runaway daughter. She disliked the deceit he worked with, and after even being shot at from him, she left. They reunite to finish off an old argument. She is ultimately given the opportunity to return home, and after coming to the realization of the evil in Dogville, she uses her new found mobster powers to wipeout everyone. However not without a last minute plea from the man she loved so dearly, and betrayed her so easily...
This movie was difficult to watch. The first hour was a little slow, and uneventful (it's about a three hour movie). But things start moving along quickly enough. Everyone starts abusing the power they hold over her by threatening to call the police about her whereabouts. The men rape her. The women destroy what meager possessions she owns. And the one man she loved, and supposedly loved her, betrayed she was beginning to threaten his future as a writer. As a viewer, you really begin to hate this town with a passion. The people who look down upon her for being an outsider. The men who sexually abuse her on a nightly basis. The women who hate her because the men lust for her. The people who convinced themselves chaining her to a weight only heavy enough to drag around town was not a punishment, but a precaution. The snot nosed children who lie to ger her in trouble. My heart ached when I watched this story. I loved her so much, and hated the townspeople so much. It was unbearable to watch such an injustice befall the character of Grace. So when the story came full circle, and Grace had decided that the town had pushed her too far, it was an outstanding sense of relief. She ordered them all killed. She even killed the man she loved (Tom), herself. The ending was so satisfying that it scares me. But the thing about it, is that you felt that no one deserved any better...
My opinion is that it was an amazing movie. However if you start it, you had better finish it. If you don't see it all the way through, you will be left with a feeling of disgust, only matched by the very same feeling (in my opinion) of that had after watching Perfect Blue for the first time. I felt so sick throughout the movie. I pitied the character of Grace so profoundly that I simply could not take seeing another awful thing befall her. So when she finally decided to stand up for herself, and to right the wrongs that were done to her, I almost wanted to cheer. Pretty bad considering she wanted everyone brutally slaughtered.
That felt good to get my opinions on this movie off my chest. And by the way, yes it is quarter past five in the morning. lol
