  • Rating AMVs... 2008-04-06 17:44:09 You know what I've been thinking about laltely? Why is it that anime music videos seem to have such as high average when it comes to their rating? I think the average is like an 8 on a scale of 10. That's freakin' high.

But then I gave it a little thought, and realized that the people making these vids are people who actually care about the work they're creating. This isn't for a profit. They're not just trying to spit out as many of these things as they can. And for the most part, people set their own deadlines (unless it's for a competition or something). So in other words, the quality is obviously going to be much higher than say something like movies or video games.

I was listening to an IGN podcast the other day and Mark Bozon was mentionning how they really try to use the full 0 to 10 rating system they employ. And I admire that. Which is why I try to do the same when I review AMVs. But the truth is, is that the quality out there is simply phenomenal. My average OVERALL rating for a vid is 7.96 right now. 80% is amazing for an average. But people care about their work, so I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised.

Anyways, I did two more reviews today. If I can do a third, I will. If not, it'll come soon. With work slowing down, I'm trying to get back on track with the opinions that people asked of me way back when. I've done 12 so far this year. In 2007, I wrote 4 reviews. In 2006, I wrote 6 reviews. And in 2005, I did 14. So if there's any consolation, I'm working at a pretty decent pace considering my track record while at University. lol

  • AMV reviews to return... 2008-03-31 23:55:45 First off, let me apologize to anyone who's been waiting patiently for an AMV opinion from me, who I haven't gotten to yet. It seems I bit off a little more than I could chew, and took as many requests as I could handle. I started getting a little behind, and then all of a sudden I had Thesis to cope with. Well, my courses are starting to wind down, which means I can start back up some reviews. I'll get right back on track with the people who I promised to review. I mean seriously, no one's complained or anything. Which quite frankly makes me feel worse for making people wait. lol But at the same time it'll get me back on the horse a lot quicker too.

Here's something I like to indulge in a weekly basis. On IGN, a fav site of mine, there's a weekly review of the latest dubbed episode of Death Note. It's really nice to read actually because it sounds like it comes from a fresh perspective. More of a non-anime fan view. Instead of just saying how each episode is so amazing, he has real opinions on the show. Since I've already seen the whole series subbed, I really enjoy reading the reviews, because it makes me feel like I'm experiencing the show a new all over again.

Not much else to say right now. Still got tons of work to do.

  • Thesis... 2008-03-16 12:59:58 It's time to buckle down and work on my Thesis. It's due in less than two weeks, and I'm not really feeling comfortable about it.

So, I've decided to cut myself off from a lot of the distractions I've been enjoying instead of working. Number one, is no more video games. The past couple of months, I haven't been playing all that much, but with the arrival of Super Smash Bros Brawl, I've been playing everyday. Well, no more. I can't handle it. No more online matches, no more single player mode. Nothing. This is my first first step to focusing my mind.

My second step, is no more AMV reviews. Don't worry, this will be only for about two weeks. I feel bad because I've promised a lot of people reviews of their AMVs, but school comes first unfortunately, and I can't afford the amount of time I usually put into a review. I hope people can understand, especially the ones who'e already been waiting a month.

Next, I don't think I'll be going home for the holidays. The Easter long weekend is coming around, but it's just half a week before my Thesis is due. There's no way I can be at home relaxing when I'm cut off from my school work. I hope my parents and family can understand.

No buying Okami. I've been really looking forward to Okami on the Wii, but it's coming out the day before my Thesis is due. Talk about a train wreck. No, I'll have to wait at least a month for things die down, before I start indulging again.

Here's a tough one, do I see my girlfriend? She's been up North for two months. I haven't seen her at all, and barely talk to her anymore. I miss her like crazy. And to make things worse, she was supposed to come home this weekend, but due to the remoteness of the location, there wasn't enough room on the plane for her to return. So she'll probably be coming home sometime later on in the week. This has got to be the worst possible timing. This past weekend was my last chance to have any fun. I can't afford to go visit her when I can't even go see my family for Easter! And if she came down here, she'd have to understand that I could only spend an hour or two with her before freaking out about my school work. It's just brutal because I don't want to go two weeks without seeing her considering I haven't seen her since Christmas basically. I really don't know what to do. And to make matters worse, the week that things finally slow down, she's off to Mexico or something for a week as her Graduation Trip. -_-

Anyways, to anyone who is in contact with me during these next two weeks: I'll be under a lot of stress. In my 21 years, this is the most pressure I've ever put on myself. I might even start showing some cracks in my "always calm" facade. If you do see me crack, consider yourself lucky. It's a sight that only a rare few have ever seen. And I apologize in advance if I'm rude or short in anyway.

This is it. It's time to work on my Thesis. It's been a long time coming. Let's just hope I can rise to meet the challenge.

  • Back on track... 2008-02-16 17:01:11 Well that was fast. So far this year, I've already reviewed more anime music videos than I did all of last year. I guess all it really takes it to finally sit down, download the vid and simply watch it. lol

My goal right now is to get back into the Top 50 most reviewers. I think I used to be around number 30, then I only did a couple of opinions a year for a few years. Funny thing is, I'm still not that far off. I guess it only goes to show that not that many people write opinions. It's a shame, because there are so many creators who are always looking for feedback.

This weekend is the start of Reading Week (aka, Spring Break). But no fun in the sun for me. Well, a little fun will be had, but it'll be in the snow. I plan on doing some skiing during the break, but that's about all because I still have a lot of school work ahead of me. This is my last year of University, I can't screw things up now.

Today I did a little window shopping. I've been thinking about buying an MP3 player. For the past 4-5 years, I've been using my CD player (which plays MP3 CDs). It's been great, but it's starting to get a little clunky. Strapping my CD pouch around my belt can get a little heavy, and having to burn a new CD whenever I get some new songs can be a hassle. But the question remains, what to buy? There are so many MP3 players on the market now. Should I get on that shows pictures and plays videos too? What about an FM Tuner? Personally, I don't think I can buy an iPod. It too... common for me. Though I do love the quality of the screen on the Nano. Well, I think is going to be one of those purchases that I'm going to need to do a lot of research before picking one up. I know prices have come way down, but this is an investment that's literally going to be at my side for years to come. I have to choose right. And don't feel bad for my "still in perfect order" CD player. It works amazingly great as a sleek and discrete stereo system. Just plug in some computer speakers to it, and it's ready to go. I can't wait. ^_^

  • Making AMVs... 2008-02-10 14:55:19 Should I finally try my hand at making an anime music video? I've only been reviewing AMVs for almost six years now. lol

You see, the other day I was chatting with my roommate about her vids. She usually hosts them on Youtube for others to see. I asked her how she made them, and she replied that she uses Windows Movie Maker. Now, back in the day I had tried to use the program, but it didn't quite work on my computer, so I gave up right away. Easy as that. Now that I have a newer computer, I decided to give it another go. Seems like everything is in working order. So now the question is, should I actually do it? Well, I feel like it's about time. I've been thinking about trying to review more videos (you know, get back in the Top 50 Most Opinions), and I figure it might give my reviews a little more credit if I actually made vids myself too. lol But who knows when I'll actually plunk myself in front of the computer and make one, now that I've only got a few months left until I've finished off University. ^_^

So what else is new with me? Well, I've been picking up some video games for my Wii. I got Zack & Wiki, Mario Strikers Charged and No More Heroes. Soon I'll pick up Super Smash Bros Brawl and everything will be right in the world. ^_^ Except my bank account of course.

Valentine's Das is coming up. Sucks though that my girlfriend is up in Northern Ontario for a couple of months (placement for her Nursing degree). I sent a little something up there for her last week (takes two weeks to get to her), so I'm hoping she gets it for the big day. ^_^

Well, that's it for now. Later.
