2008...
2008-01-13 23:14:37
Well, it's the new year. It's weird how I used to spend so much time on sites like this one, and how now things have simply changed. But I guess in the world, that's just how things are. Things change.
What in the world am I talking about? Well, right now I spend most of my time on two specific sites, IGN and GameTrailers. I don't seem to get enough when it comes to video game info and clips. The funny thing is is that I'm not even that big a video game player anymore. I think I've said this a whole bunch of times, but I have a ton of games, and quite a percentage of them have barely been played. I guess I have a tendency to get caught up in the hype, and once it's bought, I have no inclination to really play it. -_-
What about anime? Well, I still love the stuff. I just watched the series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (in the aired order). It was really good. I don't think I'd consider the greatest series ever like a lot of people have, but I still loved it. Another I'm watching is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Talk about action packed. I'm just a few episodes in, but I'm really enjoying it. When it comes to manga, I'm a lot pickier. I tend not to just pick up anything, like I would with anime. I find something I like and stick to it. After watching Death Note, I basically went out and bought the whole manga series! lol Well, vol 1-7 and vol 12 since it has a little extra in the ending. It's just amazing.
I'm proud of my website. Throughout the summer I did quite a bit of work fixing stuff up, but ever since school started back up, I haven't really updated anything. By the looks of it, I still don't see me working on it in the immediate future. But with my girlfriend gone, maybe I'll have some extra time on my hands.
Girlfriend gone? Well, she's up North for a couple of months to finish off her Nursing degree. What a time to be up North, in the middle of Winter! lol She's only been gone for about a week, but she's already getting used to it. Certain things though are hard getting used to, like the cost of food. Supposedly a 2L bottle of pop cost upwards to $8!!! I don't know if I could ever get used to that. 0_0 Luckily she's able to use the internet at the hospital she's working at, so I can still e-mail her. ^_^
One semester left! That's all I've got until school is over and I'll have completed University! Time just keeps flying by. All of a sudden I couldn't believe elementary school was over, then it was high school and now it's post secondary! Just a little longer. I've got to keep focussed and finish off in style. [sigh] I'm working on my Thesis right now, and let's just say this is going to be a chore. lol
Oh ya, and to start off the new year I'm at 13693. Not too bad.

Impatience with computers...
2007-11-23 10:22:58
Being impatient can be one of the most annoying things to witness. And what would you say is one of the modern era's biggest incluences of impatience? That's right, technology!
I've learned over the years that being impatient with say computers benefits absolutely no one, especially not yourself. In fact, all it does is impedes your efforts. Most people realize this, but make no effort to implement it. How often do you see a friend clicking away frantically on their laptop before it's even done loading, just to get frustrated about how slow it is? And if you suggest maybe waiting for it to load, that friend usually admits they know it would be better to slow down but can't control themselves. lol
I find this happens so often when there's a delay with the button that you either pressed or clicked. Ever press the OK button, or CANCEL button, only to find out nothing happened? So what's the most common reaction to follow? Pressing it again and again of course. The thing about computers is that they keep a record of how many times you've clicked and once things start running smoothely, the extra strokes gets implemented elsewhere. I used to keep pressing ENTER when nothing was working, but I learned to outgrow that habit once important work started getting deleted because my extre ENTER strokes.
The most recent culprit I see everyday is loading a USB stick, you know, those mini portable hard drives. People tend to stick it in, and start panicking when they don't see it available yet in the drive folder. So they take it out, and put it back in, just to repeat over and over again. But almost all USBs have some sort of delay, depending on the computer, because they need to load the software that allows the computer to read it. You can usually see that little bubble that pops up in the bottom right of your desktop saying it's loading the software for the new hardware. What just ends up happening though is that it gets taken out a few too many times during the loading process and the computer can't read it anymore without a restart. So please people, computer can be fast, but they can also be slow. Please just be a little more patient with them. They're doing their best. lol
Well, that's it for my little inspiring speech today. As for myself, things are ok for now. The past week has been brutal. With a report due this past Monday, and two more projects due yesteryday, it's been a very busy 7 days. Luckily I'm able to chill out for a bit of the weekend, but come Sunday it's back to business. Next weekend I'm hoping to visit my girlfriend one omre time before the holidays. She and I have had it rocky for the past few weeks, but I'm hoping this visit will be able to cheer both of us up. ^_^

Under the weather...
2007-11-10 10:18:03
I wonder where that term came from? You know, under the weather meaning a person is not feeling well. Maybe something about one of those gloomy clouds hanging over your head. lol Anyways, I'm just recovering from a bit of a cold. When I get sick, it tends to be in stages. Wednesday was my drippy nose day, Thursday was my coughing day, Friday was my feverish type day. Saturday (today) is my halfway better day. lol
I don't get sick that often, so for it to last this long is quite an achievement. Unfortunately I have a pretty good idea how it arose. As usual, because exposing myself to a germ filled environment, I have a bad habit of weakening my immune system. I donated blood on Halloween, and the very next day I boarded a bus for a 12 hour ride to Chicago. It's a lot like the time I went on a family cruise just off of Mexico. It was one of the very first times I had stayed up for 24 hours in a row, just in time to board a stuffy flight to Florida. I just seem to present myself at the most inopportune times when it comes to getting sick. lol Luckily I didn't really start getting sick until after the weekend trip in Chicago.
I ended my last entry with the details that I was about to go to Kingston for the weekend for their Homecoming. Well, that was an experience. I got totally wasted for the first time in my life. I little too much wine, and several shots of rum landed me a spot in front of the toilet that very night. I kept doing shots thinking that I wasn't really feeling it. What I hadn't realized that as with most things there's a time delay. So of course I only realized this when it was too late, and I had already gone one shot too far. Oh well, luckily it didn't ruin my night. And I'm sure my girlfriend enjoyed balancing me back to her place. lol Shame she didn't take advantage of me. lol ~_^
You know what series I've gotten into? Death Note! As with most people who've witnessed it, I fell in love with it right away. I was chatting to a friend of mine yesterday and he said "Just watching it makes you feel like you're getting smarter. I always ask myself, what would L or Light do?" and I would have to agree. Personally, I've only watched the first 29 episodes. I was doing a binge, but grew tired of it after the major revelation in that 26ish episode. I'll finish it soon though.
Another series I've been following is Heroes. For the most part, a great show, but it's not consistent. Last year had a few down point, and this year has been the same if not worse. It's still good, but has been way too slow. This past week's episode was a step in the right direction. The cliffhanger with Adam Monroe was knock your socks off awesome. Though I'm disappointed that this Writers Strike will most likely end the season short. I suppose I should be happy it's not like other shows like Lost and 24 that won't even begin airing. -_-
Anyways, back to regaining my strength. I'm not at 100% yet.

Slow year...
2007-10-12 08:56:29
This has really been one slow year in terms of school work. Strange that it's my 4th year of university though. lol
Terrible news in the Nintendo world unfortunately, Super Smash Bros Brawl has been delayed until Feb 10 2008. I had been planning to buy a Wii in the following weeks simply to have it ready when Brawl came out in December. What to do now? I suppose I could still buy one... But thanks to those daily updates on the Brawl site, I've been counting down the days, and it looked so ready. I hope there really was a problem that needed fixing in those two months, rather than a delay since Galaxy was probably already enough to keep Wii's sold out all holiday season. -_-
Time for a new tv? I really like my tv, but it's getting on in years (1996). It's one of those Samsung GX tvs that has flip out doors that opens to show the screen, and each door houses the left and right speakers as well. It makes it fairly unique, and I can truthfully say I've never seen anyone else with the same tv. Another reason I really like it is because it has multiple connections at the back so that I can keep my DVD player and GC, and VCR connected without having to switch out all the time. But, you know an electronic is showing it's age when there's nothing available in terms of jacks for component cables or even an S-Video cable. I guess it'll be soon time to upgrade.
I wrote an AMV review the other day. I used to write several in a night. Now, it takes at least an hour just for one. I guess it's good that I'm detailed, but it's annoying because sometimes finding time to write one gets to be hard. Maybe if I keep at it, like most things it'll just keep getting easier.
Well, I'm off for the weekend. I'm going to visit my girlfriend at Queen's University. This weekend is their Homecoming celebrations, so I suppose I can expect the usual 3 day party with students who easily go the entire weekend without ever sobering up. lol

Fourth and final year...
2007-09-15 13:18:09
Well, this is it. I'm starting my 4th year at Ryerson University! After this, there's not much else but to finally grow up and get a real job. lol
This year my roommate is a long time friend of mine who shares a lot of my interests. At first I didn't really care at all, but now that we've played some video games and watched some anime together, I'm starting to enjoy it. I've even introduced her to Avatar: The Last Airbender and she loves it too! By the way, I just bought teh 2nd season (Book 2), and have fallen in love with it all over again. It's such a great show, I just hope the live action movie trilogy that M. Night Shyamalan is working on is on par with the animated series.
Today is freezing. The weather has been decent, but yesterday there was a short storm, and today I guess is the chilly cloudy aftermath.
For my birthday/anniversary with my girlfriend, she got me a DS Lite. Love that thing. I had been putting it off getting one because I couldn't convince myself it was the right time yet, but she remedied that. I got the Crimson/Onyx one with Brain Age 2. Good stuff. With Pokémon Diamond, Mario Kart, that preordered Portrait of Ruin I got a long time ago and Tetris, I'm ready to roll. Now I just need a Wii because my Twilight Princess game I got on day one is probably missing some love. Soon though. Mario will be out, same with Smash, and with Samus already out, things are just about ready.
Oh ya, my website has been filling out nicely lately. I've been able to add a lot of descriptions and pics of the stuff I've been making, like posters and placemats. I'll be soon trying to make a guestbook, because I really like hearing from people!
