The day has come, the snow is falling, and the presents are unwrapped.
A few highlights:
Nice Old Navy fleece vest from Nancy, which I'm wearing now...
A frickin' STACK of DVDs between the two of us...everything from Band of Brothers to Glory and Gettysburg to Excel Saga #3 and Gundam 08th MS Team #2.
A book on creating motion graphics with Adobe After Effects.
and a GeForce4 Ti 4400 128MB card. w00t.
Didn't get the RAM I'd hoped for... I'll post this to the hardware wonks on the forum. We've got a year-old Gateway computer and the only options I get for RAM upgrades are 800mhz RDRAM RIMM modules. Is that all I can use? No cheaper option than dropping 300 bones for half a gig of the stuff? -

There's a storm bearing down on us as I type this from work. Gonna be a fun ride home... Our producer is totally mailing in the show tonight...there must be a dozen national stories plucked off the feeds, since the local story is of course the incoming snow (or "white death" as we call it, due to its overblown importance in the news--you'd think it was pure sulfuric acid by the way we hype it).
I'm working tonight and tomorrow (solo tonight, got help tomorrow), but it means holiday pay and the station -is- feeding us. Plus I've figured out how to get Winamp on my terminal and get the Shoutcast stream for Anime FM, so it's all good. -

Just heard from one of the Ohayocon guys--Hell appears to be on for Friday night, midnight-whenever. Dunno if I get comped for just that day, or a weekend pass (or comped at all, at this point).
I've got two videos prepped for entry to the contest:
"Why Me?" and "Send Her My Love".
Couldn't find my tape copy of "Crush 'Em", and my only digital copy was lost when my old hard drive went catatonic. I -think- there's an MPEG-1 copy on a disc I gave my nephew...I'll have to ask. -

Ohayocon's AMV contest will NOT see a new video from me this year.
I'm down to less than 24 hours before Nancy and I leave for Birmingham AL for a holiday visit, and the video's not close to being done. Hollywood FX Gold is also being a bitch, so I've uninstalled it and will try again with a fresh copy. It's the only thing that has caused Premiere to crash thus far; it'll lock up or crash the moment I select the Pinnacle folder from the transitions menu. But I -can- go through the standalone effects editor Hollywood FX and browse all the pretty transitions I'd like to use. Meh.
On top of that, I have to be at work at 1pm (2 hours early) for training on the new computer system that'll be replacing NewStar next year.
I've had maybe 3 hours to actually edit this thing, but all the footage is ripped and ready. There's no way I can get it done in time, so the contest will have to make doe with a couple of moldy oldies from the vault. It'll be interesting to see how a 2003 audience handles early to mid-90s AMVs in all their analog glory (why no, these are not DVD-quality!).
Also unsure if Animation Hell will be hosted at Ohaycon, as I've not heard a peep from their staffers in months. I'm trying to get a final word from 'em because if I don't get comped in for running Hell and/or being on panels then I may not want to go as badly, even if it does mean I don't connect with parts of the AMV community for the first time in like, years. -

I can tell when it's got me.
Last night, on the way home from work, and all the way TO work today, I listened to Bad Religion's "The Defense". This is what my next AMV will use, and I hope to have it done in time for Ohayocon's contest. (...deadline for which is December 21, so I'd better hurry!)
I have the source DVDs, and with my newfound confidence in Premiere (and a lucky effects find at work) it's gonna freakin' SHINE, baby!
