JOURNAL: RichLather (Jeff Tatarek)

  • Mostly...hell, ALL for Misty 2002-11-26 20:35:58 I've got a tape of over an hour's worth of video we shot during the riots sitting right in front of me; it's awful stuff, including a fire set right in the middle of High Street! (for those not familiar with the area, High Street = aorta in terms of campus traffic flow)

I'm very much aware of the vast numbers of students who were involved in this, and I hope the school administration follows through with their tough talk of arresting the offenders--even if it DOES mean walking into their classrooms and carting them out in cuffs.

Some people need to be embarrased in just this way to make the point. Otherwise, the disruptive element most responsible for the rioting and property damage will continue to lurk in the shadows, waiting for the next opportunity to act inapproriately.

I'm hoping my station made a copy of this video to give to the police; maybe some arrests will come out of it.

Oh, and as for OSU losing in the Fiesta Bowl, if Miami makes it that far it might not be too difficult to see the Bucks get an ass-whuppin', unless--UNLESS it turns into a low-scoring defensive struggle. Then the Buckeyes have a chance to win the whole damn thing.
  • Everybody booze up and riot! --Milk & Cheese 2002-11-26 14:57:57 Interesting note about the OSU riots after the Michigan game...

Of the 48 arrests that occured Saturday night-Sunday morning, only seven were ID'ed as OSU students.

And of those seven, SIX were alumni and one was a dropout!

Still, it always grieves me that a handful of yahoos can incite the mob mentality and cause such a black eye to teh campus and the majority of fans who -were- responsibly celebrating.

  • Hang on sloopy 2002-11-25 00:50:44 Well, OSU won and is headed to the Fiesta Bowl.

Work Saturday was actually about as well-run and well-produced as I've seen in a good while. There were plenty of people on-hand to take feeds, log tapes, and generally there was very little confusion as to what video we had, and how to use it best.

A couple of small glitches, that easily occur during any day of live broadcasting, but nothing major.

If only every day could go that smoothly, but I know it won't . We're too short-staffed to maintain the level of competence for I fear we'd burn out in a week or two.

I will take what I can get though.
  • Carmen Ohio 2002-11-23 15:12:43 It's 4pm EST, and I'm sitting in the eye of the hurricane.

Today the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated their archrival, the Michigan Wolverines, and assured themselves a spot in the Fiesta Bowl for the national championship.

I'm in the newsroom of the top-flight network affiliate watching the goalposts come down, and the long night of overboisterous celebration (aka rioting) begin to take shape with overturned cars and sofa fires.

I knew this day was coming, and I've been dreading it all week. Now it is here, and I fear it will be worse than I had anticipated. It is at once thrilling to watch it unfold, and also chills meto the bone knowing that I must edit what comes in for the general public's viewing during our newscasts.

I think when tonight is over I'm not going to want to edit for several days.
  • The cult of personality 2002-11-21 19:14:45 I think I'm gonna take part in TommyRude's 80's AMV contest.

Best thing is I can just take something out of my early stock that no one's seen in years and use -that-. It fits all the criteria!

Provided I have time to do so, I can think of one other video Icould turn out as a quickie; have the music, have the source material. And the music would easily be agreeable to TommyRude!
