People still comment, but the numbers are much lower than they used to be. They primarily just stick to their friend's video.
The Org isn't dead yet, it's just comatose and waiting on Trythil to rebuild it into a much more badass motherfucker. -

More like it's been something I've noticed more and more often and I suppose after discussing it with Matt last night (after seeing a shit ton of it on a specific video) I suppose I needed a rant to get it out of my system.

The way criticism works on the org has once again evolved. It used to be that there was none whatsoever but now it appears to work like this:
"Hey random new guy who is new the Org but made a video that was interesting enough to actually make me want to post! Your video was okay but here is everything you did wrong :D Fuck you and welcome to the Org!"
*proceeds to the next thread on the list*
"OH HAY! MAH BEST FRIEND! 5/5 CAN I BLOW YOU? YAAAAAAAAAY! YOUR VIDEO MADE ME LAUGH SOOO HARD. WHY I LIKES SO MUCH?!?"
I mean, yay that people are actually getting back into critiquing videos but it appears that they're only doing it to people they don't know and making sure to leave the other half of the compliment sandwich out of the equation by just telling them what they did wrong (or didn't like) and moving on to shower their besties with compliments out the wazoo.
Long sentences aside, I imagine this is rather disheartening for new people trying to break into the Org and now I think I'm starting to see why people have such a hard time approaching us. If I was to make a thread with "Hey, I don't really know what I'm doing but here is my video!" then have the only posts I get be that of telling me what I did wrong then while I'd be willing to take that criticism, I'd kind of feel what the fuck?-ish. Especially after proceeding to another thread with a very meh video and seeing everyone trying to jerk the editor off.

Yes, and that was true. But now it's not being evenly distributed.
Before there was none. Absolutely none and everyone was getting jerked off and no one learning from it. Before, I used to go into a thread and see nothing but splodge everywhere and say "Well hell, someone has to something else and clean this mess up."
Yes, there were times when I'd go in and just comment on what was wrong but that was only in a situation when I could visibly see or hear the editor getting nothing but compliments and I knew that they were above the age of 12 and could handle criticism. Well, I hoped that anyways >.> I was proven wrong on many the occasion...
Now it's switched to telling the new guy that no one knows about "It was okay but it basically sucked monkey balls and you deserve to die. Bye" and only showing the people that you know any positive attention.
Yes, I will still rip a video to shreds during beta testing. Because that is BETA TESTING. But if I'm leaving an actual review on a video I'm trying to build my compliment sammich. Ever notice how Opinions have Good, Bad, and then Overall? That is the sammich.
Hey! I liked this video! It had really neat lensflares and 3D shatter effects. But the interlacing and dancing penises kind of killed it for me in certain areas. Overall, while there was a bit that made it difficult for me to watch sometimes, I still enjoyed it! Good luck in the future.
You can look back at any of my previous rants where people would come to me and say "But they need good feedback too!" and you'll see me say YES THEY DO. BUT YOU NEED BOTH NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE. Now, I probably didn't say that in a bold font with all capital letters, but you get the idea.
What I guess I'm trying to say is that people need to try pulling some of the happy fun times away from their bestest buddies threads and maybe try to share a bit more with the guy they're currently shitting all over. I mean, if you're going to refuse to do nothing but molest your buddies video with happiness (even though you should try to be treating them the same way you would someone who is new) you could at least throw the new kid a quickie. You guys are halfway to getting it right! Now you just need to even it out!
Oh, and if anyone tries the whole "It's always been like that with people showering their best friends with compliments" bullshit, I will fucking cut you because I can pull old threads with friends commenting on each others stuffs and making DELICIOUS compliment sammiches.
