After a couple days of messing around to get all necessary files and software transferred and installed, my new computer is finally up and running!
While I haven't had much time to test it very much, I'm quite impressed with the performance so far.

Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Dual Core
2 gigs PC3200 RAM
74 gig Raptor system drive
2x 300 gig Seagate SATA storage drives
Aopen 6600 GT vidcard

The Dell 2405 FP widescreen LCD should arrive in about a week, for now I'll make do with the 2000 FP I've had for a few years.

Finally finished my last vid for the Short AMV project, I call it "Brett's Tune Up" for reasons that become clear after watching it.

I'm really glad Garylisk let me finish this one, both of us thought it was a great song, and deserved a place in the final project.
There was just one problem: The DVD containing the footage I wanted to use wasn't scheduled to be released until a few weeks after the official end of the project. :o
When I first claimed the track, something odd happened. I had a clear idea that I wanted to use Full Metal Panic for it, because Sagara Sosuke was the perfect guy to focus on.
One little problem: I'd mentally mixed up scenes from FMP with scenes from FMP: Fumofuu, having watched both as fansubs before the start of the Short AMV Project, so when I ripped my FMP discs, the scenes I'd remembered mysteriously weren't there -_-;
Well, I figured out what the problem was pretty quickly, but there wasn't much I could do about it right then. I'd figured out more or less how I wanted to make the vid before even taking the track, and I couldn't find enough suitable footage in the original series to make it work.
Luckily, Gary hadn't compiled and released the project by the time I got ahold of the first Fumofuu DVD, and was even planning to draw a little comic about how nobody made a video to the song, set to it, just to get it in the final release.
After talking with him a bit, I got the go-ahead to crank out this one last vid, and I'm really glad I got the chance to.
There you have it, the long, strange, (boring?) story of how Mr Brett, Please Put Down Your Gun finally, barely made it into the Short AMV Project.

Now is when I take a moment to bitch at ADV, which I've been doing a lot less of these days, since most of their recent releases have looked really, really nice.
FMP: Fumofuu isn't one of those.
I'm annoyed but not shocked that it took a stupidly long time for them to start bringing the show out on DVD, I'm sort of used to that from them.
What really pisses me off is how horrible the picture quality of the first disc is.
Apparently, either when making the masters that were sent to ADV, or suring their mastering process, the video signal was sent through a composite connection.
IT LOOKS LIKE COMPLETE ASS!
The R1 DVD has dot crawl and rainbowing OUT THE ASS, and looks absolutely horrible. Whether the master they got had this already, or it's something they did, not catching the problems and finding a fix before releasing the first disc is totally their fault, and totally unacceptable, especially considering how long it took them to release it at all.
The R2 Japanese discs don't have this problem, I've seen comparison screenshots.
I could excuse it if this were an old show mastered from analog, but it isn't. I won't be buying the rest of the series until/unless these problems are fixed on those discs, and they really should offer a disc replacement of the first DVD.
It a damn shame, too, because I really like the show, and want to own it all on DVD. As of now though, I'm completely writing off the idea of ever using this show as source footage again, until I have a complete, and properly mastered set of discs.
I spent longer researching how to clean up this problem, and trying different filters, than I did on the actual editing of this rather quick and simple AMV.

On my seventh try, I finally had a banner win.
Much more fun than seeing 90 yes votes on a rejected one. -_-;
Seems the less time I spend, the better they do.
The winner is the "Reach for the Stars"/Aim for the Top one, btw.
I think it's the combination of the color scheme and the font I used, but it sort of reminds me of the cover art for Boogie Nights.
That must be the reason for the slightly dirty subtext my mind adds to it now:
Reach for the Stars (because editors love hand jobs)
Heh, I probably just ruined looking at it for a couple people.

Alive is good.
Had noted tutter's disappearance during my own time away from the amv world, but decided against asking about it. Didn't want to stir anything, or cause unnecessary pain to anyone to satisfy my curiosity.
