JOURNAL: Ashyukun (Robert Babcock)

  • It's Tricky 2003-08-15 13:58:42 to edit when there's no electricity
  • I should be editing... 2003-08-12 20:51:02 But it'll be another 4 or 5 days until my replacement glasses are done and I can look at a computer screen for that long without getting a headache...
  • Time to relax 2003-07-29 10:22:16 Wow. It's been some time since I've had what could truly be considered a lull in making AMVs and not just me being lazy and putting off doing something I should have done a while ago.

My Pro video went very well, I think. It wasn't the video I intended to make when I decided to make a Pro video, but I'm quite glad I made it. Granded, I doubt 90% of the people who see it will even begin to get it- but that's fine with me. The few who do should get a big kick out of it. I opted to not go ahead with and try and finish my Masters video this year. I just have spent far too little time working with one of the core programs it needs, and anything I do churn out would just not be worthy of Masters.

So, for now I have nothing I really -have- to be working on. The next deadline I have to worry about in Connichi's. I should look up when BAAF's and AnimeNext's is as well, but I think at least the latter is not for a little while, and I'm probably just going to send DOR to BAAF. Possibly Eden 12/24 as well.

So, in the nice break I have I'll be working on other things when I'm not simply ignoring my computers. I want to get my new web-page designed- I'm planning on finally getting real hosting. With luck, in a day or two it will exist, and not look like crap.

And, last but not least, WLtFO made it into the contest at Otakon. I thoroughly expect to get trounced by the likes of Vlad and Doki, but it will be very cool to have WLtFO shown to that many people. I'm looking forward to the convention and seeing all of my friends and making lots of new ones.

  • Shifting gears from 'frantic' to 'plaid' 2003-07-18 07:32:47 After fighting with the offending program I need for my Masters video for the better part of the aftrenoon and making completely sub-par progress, I've been forced to accept that there is no way I can get it done the way I really want to in time for the deadline for the contest. I just can't work through all the snags I run into with this particular program at a fast enough speed- simply getting the stuff done in it would likely take the rest of the time, and theres a lot else that needs to be done as well. So for now, the project is shelved. It's too good of an idea, IMO, and I've put too much effort into it so far to completely drop. I'll decide just for how long to shelve it in about a week.

I'll decide in a week because I'm going to try and do something almost as impossible (if I pull it off, I should get a free breakfast at Milliways) as finishing the Masters video in time- making a video for Pro in a week flat. Well, not quite a week flat- I started ripping source late last night. But I won't be able to start editing until tomorrow morning, most likely so yeah, 7 days. It's not impossible- I know for a fact some incredible vids have been done in less time. But not by me... so it will be an adventure. With the hours this will likely require, I may have to break down and actually grab something caffinated to drink for the first time in ages.

I may still try and finish up the Masters video in a slightly different form. I kind of designed it so if things didn't work out I could still submit it, but at the same time I don't think it's anywhere near as good as it would be if I could do it the way it was intended. Knowing myself, I'll probably decide to put it off for a later date and do it right, but I'll make the final decision next weekend after the Pro video is done *crosses fingers*
  • Hum de dum 2003-07-15 07:49:51 I think I've only hit 'accept' for like 1 out of 12 of the last few bunches of banners. It seems a bit cruel, but if it's not in any way AMV related or in some way exceptionally original or cute, I'm probalby not going to approve it. And if I can't read the text either because it's too small or it's an abysmal combination of colors (black text on dark brown background. Yeah, like I'm going to squint to read a banner...), it's getting declined.

Work progresses slowly but more steadily now on my Masters vid. With only some 3 weeks to go, I'm coming into the time frame where I unfortuantely work best- close to the wire. I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll actually get it done on time, but too many things could still snag me up to be really sure it will be done by the deadline (or, more accurately- half a week before the deadline. Having the deadling over Otakon SUCKS!!!)

I also got to thinking about it a bit, and am glad I did- I'm goign to have to make two version of the video, though the change will be very, very minor and the second version doesn't have to be done by the deadline. As some of you I chat with semi-regularly may know, I've decided that from here out, there will always be an Afro Ken somewhere in my videos. I already know where I'm planning on putting it in for my Masters vid- but I realized that even for the one frame I was planning on putting it in for, the people doing the judging are pretty sharp and might actually catch it- which would not be fair by the blind judging rules- even those who don't know I plan on putting the 'Kens in might stand a chance of realizing there aren't many people who would use that, and I don't want any chances of polluting the judging. So, two version it will have to be.
