“Dungeons and Dragons” has been under a lot of scrutiny by religious organizations and by overly concerned parents. These allegations are completely unfounded and refute any of the real benefits the game provides to the players involved. The benefits for college students and younger players are well founded as in articles Psychology Today. These benefits include greater level of social interaction for people who would not normally be socially out going. Also, it can be used to teach morals and ethics to it’s gaming participates. Finally it provides a safe haven for young people and adults to grow with their creativity.
Maybe I should explain “Dungeons and Dragons” it is a role-playing game, and on its most basic level. You take on the role of the one person you create. The player chooses that person’s name, gender, age, history, social alignment (Evil, Good, and Neutral), eye color, weight and height. Those characteristics are also modified by the race your playing, sometimes human. Unless your one of the other races that have unusual characteristics.
Anyway the dice are only used a mediator to keep the game balanced.
In other words, there used to make the base statistics that make up this imaginary person. Some examples of this include Strength (How strong he or she is), Dexterity (How fast that person is) these base statistics help the player get a feel for the character. The dice are also used to resolve conflicts or interacting with story characters.

    __________________________________________________________

There are many people in this society, who would not interact with others and who would fall into emotional decline without Dungeons and Dragons. Example my friend John who does not have all the advantages of a nice normal American household has D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) to fall back on and lifts him above his social disadvantages. Therefore D&D is actually a helpful from of intellectual escapism for some people. ”D&D encourages your kids to interact face to face in your home with their friends, rather than anonymously with strangers over the Internet. I understand that if you place two or more teenagers in a room and leave them there for an hour there's bound to be a conflict. But working through those conflicts and learning to interact with their peers is going to teach them communication skills they're going to use later on as adults.” (Pvponline.com) This clearly shows that D&D is beneficial for social outcasts or introverts, but, also helps teenagers and adults gain problem solving skills.
However, some outraged parents blame D&D and other role-playing games with corrupting their children. It seems as if these parents are quick to blame anyone with shooting distance. Because gamers tend to step away from the mainstream, this makes them a prime target. For example: “Bink had been depressed after he was unable to find a manager to handle his campaign for election to school council. He was apparently an emotionally disturbed student who admired Adolf Hitler.”
Unfortunately, his mother kept a loaded gun in the house that he was able to access; he used it to commit suicide.
    __________________________________________________________

The mother blamed D&D for his suicide and formed BADD an anti-D&D organization. That when “The Association of Gifted-Creative Children of California surveyed psychological autopsies of adolescent suicides and was unable to find any that were linked to these games.” In fact the National Association endorsed Dungeons and Dragons for its educational content instead.
D&D teaches ethics? Yes, “Dungeons and Dragons” as stated earlier involves alignment. This expresses your character’s ethical views on the world he or she belongs to. “The character must then abide by that decision, and face the consequences of his actions whether he chooses something required by his beliefs, or turns against those beliefs to act otherwise. The player is also bound by that decision, but in a different way. The player controls his character in exactly the same way as the author of a book. Alignment is a major decision about a character, and the player must follow the alignment decision in other decisions he makes for the character in order to remain "in character". (http://www.mjyoung.net/dungeon/confess.html) The above statement came from
    M. Joseph Young an incredibly active born again christen man in his late 30 or early 40’s. This along with many other statements, I found all over the web proves that D&D is not only not evil, but, at times can be educationally ethical. Also, it can teach high-level math skills (making your character and rolling out results to given situation), problem solving (How do I escape the monsters that are all over the city?) and rational thinking skills (If I do this how will the party react?). Which I know some people, do not have.

    _________________________________________________________

Another great thing about D&D is that amount of safety it gives to its participates
Think about it rationally your pretty safe, inside a house with a large group of your friends who you have bonded to. Your not rooming around in middle of the night, your not doing some sort of college drinking stunt, your not mostly likely doing anything that could be considered illegal. I think a quote form the CCRI STRATEGIC KNIGHTS
The Gamers' Club of CCRI sums up my point. “[The] purpose of this organization is to foster and promote teamwork, cooperation, independent thinking, decision making and social interaction through participation in such activities as community service and such games as Chess, Magic, Bridge, Dungeons and Dragons, Mage Knight, Risk, Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly, etc”. Dr. David W. Alfano also advises the Gaming Club and part of the psychology department and a pretty learned guy form what I understand. Nowhere does it say we promote Satin worship, other illegal actives or promotes people who are introverts to become worse. In other words “Dungeons and Dragons” is not only educational, but is also a tool for mental and spiritual education.
