The english paper is Completed
2003-10-08 11:56:27
(The whole english paper)
My Life in AMV's
There were many people I could have chosen from to be the person I was inspired by, my parent’s maybe, a certain rock band or anime studio. But, when I think of people who inspire me, my mind jumps to my colleagues on Animemusicvideos.org. But, before we dive head on into that topic, I believe a few things must be explained. One, what exactly is anime? Two, what got me interested in making music video out of it? Three how do I manage to meet other people who share my hobby and learn from them?
Anime (An-i-may) is the Japanese equivalent of American cartoons, however their range of topics can be extremely varied. The Japanese culture treats animation as Americans treat their movies, that can range from kid shows, to fetish adult flicks. Which is the largest appeal for their avid viewers IE the otaku. The otaku in some ways equivalent to the star trek fanatic, but, are usually much more out spoken and active than your normal Trekie. The otaku can also be varied in skills and form of obsession, some
like making drawings of their favorite characters or follow a certain shows religiously.
However, some also play games that involve exercise such as “Dance Dance Revolution” and “Par Par”.
Then there are the AMV people the producers of Anime Music Videos or short form just AMV’s. These obsessed fans need to convey something though the medium of the show itself. They seek no profit except convention prizes and the admiration of other otaku and fan-girls. I among others spend hours looking for the right scenes and cutting the footage at just the right point. The programs people use, can vary but the results are what matter. The next natural step of these AMV-Otaku was to band together and trade information and watch each other’s AMV’s.
So, the end result was Phade’s animemusicvideos.org. This in turn lead to group meetings at conventions where people could trade advice or criticize the work of that individual or studio in person.
What got me started? That’s a good question, I think Otakon is my earliest true
AMV moment; Of course I had seen other AMV’s before online or though people I knew even threw around a few concept videos. But, it’s completely different feeling at a convention. Not only is the atmosphere different because of the large number of otaku and learned newbie’s present, at Otakon this reaches more then 10 thousand people. But, the AMV’s are shown on large projector screens and even bigger ones if you make the contest loop. The sheer size of the crowd and the joy & sorrow, that insued after watching a mastery crafted AMV. Got me hook, line and sinker and so would being my now Year long obsession with making AMVs.
The first helper in my road unto AMV-hood was John Westbrook who very patiently thought me the adobe premiere basics, he happened to be sharing a hotel with 3 other people and me. Then later I learned of the ORG and learned tidbits from random question threads and a lot of trail and error tactics. This paid off, but, also created a lot of
AMV that I’d regret later, everyone must learn somewhere I suppose. Through the ORG I also learned of AMV dinners where people go-over AMV problems and hang out in nice dinner setting. I did goto one in 2002 Otakon, but, barley grasped what they where discussing, this was not the case however when we re meet in 2003. Also, people like
Jason Scheiner who taught me the massively useful key framing option in Adobe Premiere and the wonders that are opacity fades.
These things alone do not explain why this facet of my life got more attention among so many others. I could dismiss it as another aberration of my otaku-hood
, But, that would be an excuse. I think it’s that feeling I get when watching a well-crafted AMV’s downloaded from one of my colleagues. That feeling of pure joyous repertoire or to be moved to tears only for moment, about something I deeply care about.
It’s not the animation or music that does it, but, the pure combination of the two, that lets you feel the videos true inner meaning. A good example of this effect occurred, when I first watched Aluminum Studios “Lain – Smoke video” that fan-made music video actually caused me to breakdown crying, that the media’s true power.
When you can send a message so strongly to the viewing audience that it makes other people cry or laugh that’s important. Other AMV artists inspire me to attain that lofty goal and even if I can’t achieve it, it’s been a good ride. I’ve made tons of good friends on the ORG that will forever change the person I am today. Plus, I learned all sorts of useful things about Adobe Products and made videos that made me happy, I can’t ask for much more then that.

Keeping Track on things
2003-10-01 12:53:08
So it looks as if I'll be spending the ride back on the bus reading
accounting information and doing probelms. Cleaning somesort
of rancid smell that is emminating from under the stairs (Probally
due to the cats). Then Working on finishing my english paper that keeps
getting thrown on the back burner (one becuase I'm a bad writer who has taken comp II 2 times before) and studing for a Math test I should have taken 2 days ago. Then if I have free time tonight, I will put the finishing
touchs on my Animix track 97 (Dreams Of Hediki). I keep writing these kind of plans out ,but, something usally distracts me and I only get about
half of them done. Hopefully today will be different in that regard , also
I'll let you guys in on a little secert. I got premission to make a nosfertu
music video (animation on museoffire.com) and will be done with that later this month<not telling you when :)> That's about it I just wanted to get my mind strightened out and tell my fans (Luagh) what I have been up-to
at "this juncture". That's it go... I know you have better things to-do
then hear me rant.... Gezz your still reading go-on the post is over :)
........ fine then I 'm leaving

Today alot of things happened ,but, they weren;t on my scedule at-all..
Didn't get my History reading done on-the-bus to-class like I wanted. It ended up-with me and several people getting in a heated debate about the JFK assianation (Which you shouldn't get me started on :)) and then some minor discourse about where the nearest art supply store was. Well besides the ton of homework that threatens to crush me and by-pure weight. There's some good news to report I have story boarded Track 97
of animix and it's going to take about 6 or 7 video tracks and about 2 - 3 weeks of effort (maybe a little less) to finish it :)... But, it's going to look sweet when it is completed and will make track 66 look like a walk in
the park.... In other news brandons giving me my Hellsing DVD's back which mean me,John,Dave,Stacy and the gang can work on our love bites
parody. I may have to replace Magix which I deleted accidently. But, all
seems well I think I might be able to get a decent mic for the project if
my mom will let me barrow her free stage mic that's PC compatiable.
