  • P9 video DONE! 2002-05-02 10:26:41 Finished!

See my list of videos for the link.
  • Ketchup 2002-03-25 04:56:42 What with one thing and another I haven't filed a catch-up report on how things are going.

The new video is from PRINCESS NINE, and the music is Front 242's "Crapage" -- an interesting combination because the song is obviously about someone running for a public office, about the unrealistic demands placed on people who do such a thing. I am using Flash 5.0 to do some interesting things with titling and lettering, an experiment which is proving highly successful, and which I will probably reuse in other forms in other videos.

Premiere's single biggest flaw: clumsy handling of titles. I have had to turn to third-party programs to patch that crack.

The problem as always remains music, not video. There are so few songs I feel like I can definitively point to and go, "Yes, that's one I want to use!" Or there will be songs that do lend themselves well to a video, but which I personally despise ("Smack My Bitch Up").

  • BACK ONLINE - BACK IN ACTION. 2002-03-14 11:16:50 The title should tell it.

    Here are the details:

I had a long absence from my desk, mostly because of work that needed to be done and could not wait for anything else in my life. When AMV.org did its server changeover, AND DiVX 5.0 came out, I decided to get everything back together once that happened and use those two events as an excuse to re-premiere all of my material. It's good to be back.

I don't have a lot of server space, but I'm working on getting a new account set up with a different hosting company that may change that. In the meantime, what I may do is have the newest videos compressed at a very high bitrate for a period of, say, a month -- after which they will be replaced with a lower bitrate version, although the high bitrate edition will still be available upon request. This way I can still make it possible for people to see everything I've done in some form, even if it's not the best.

I am currently making a new video which involves heavy use of Flash 5.0. I won't say what it is or what song it involves, but I will say that it will be more than worth the wait.

I am also going to be doing re-edits of the Utena and Cutey Honey videos. A lot of the feedback people gave me on them was very useful and I'm trying to take this stuff to heart. One nice thing about non-linear editing is that it is very easy to augment an existing piece of work without destroying it. I will have announcements about those as soon as they are done.

I will also be entering some of my work in a few contests this year, but I'm keeping mum about which ones until after I have already done so.

I have many projects lined up. The Final Fantasy movie, the Utena movie, Hakkenden, Giant Robo, Read or Die, Cleopatra DC, Princess Nine, Akira, Knight Hunters/Weiss Kreuz, Princess Mononoke, and many others are slated to be put into the new editing farm, which I've christened "Shun-mun". I also have some NON-anime titles, such as Gojoe, Shaolin Soccer, Electric Dragon 80.000V, Shiri, Getting Any? and a number of others, all slated to go into production at some point.

My main problem is not visual material but a dearth of decent music. I suspect I'm just getting jaded in my old age or something, but so much of the junk on the radio is just that: junk. There hasn't been a decent ROCK song on the radio in ages -- the last song I really remember getting excited about as "Welcome to the Fold," and we all remember how long ago that was.

It takes a long time for me to come up with good combinations of image and music for a good reason: most of what I hear does not match what I see at all. The patient will be rewarded.
  • Problems w'my site 2002-01-12 00:28:45 Sorry, I'm still having problems with my site. Some of the older videos aren't back up yet. Please bear with me.
  • Problems with my site 2002-01-08 18:52:13 I had to yank down my videos while they deal with a problem regarding space allocation on my site.

I hope to have things cleared up shortly.
