JOURNAL: TheGline (The Gline)

  • Nadia is live 2001-10-16 12:26:34 The Nadia/New Order video is done and in place. Go for it. Cardcaptor Sakura is next on the agenda.
  • Nadia complete! 2001-10-15 17:45:33 The first end-to-end edit of Nadia is finished. I'm going to spend the next day or so touching it up and tightening it here and there. It should be available by Wednesday.
  • Pollock 2001-10-15 07:49:28 I rented "Pollock" last night. The modern myth of the tormented artist is all backwards, and the movie gets that absolutely right. Pollock wasn't an artist because he was a belligerent, self-destructive soul -- he used his art as a way of warding off his personal demons. There was a time when he could stand over his canvases and drip his paint onto them and everything would be golden... for a while. Then his rage and doubt and disgust would surface again and wreck everything.

There's no one final reason why anyone becomes an artist. With Pollock, I got the impression the reason he did it was because he just wanted to paint -- that was the only way he had to validate himself, and it didn't always work. I create videos, write scripts, essays, do all of these other things, but they're only steps towards something I don't even have a name for yet, and probably never will.
  • Nadia / New Order 2001-10-13 00:47:39 On a whim, inspiration! New Order's "Regret" and Nadia/Secret of Blue Water. The song has a wonderful midsummery feel to it that fits the anime beautifully.
  • Switching back to DIVX 2001-10-12 11:50:39 I'm switching all my videos back to the DIVX 4 codec. I can get results which are just about as good as Media 8. WM8 is good for longer movies, though -- I got a 30-minute production into 40MB with it at one point. But for shorter videos I'm opting for DIVX, which is also cross-platform.
