  • One Week to Katsucon 2003-02-08 21:48:20 One more week until my day trip to Katsucon. Here's what's been going through my head concerning it:

Personally, there's a few things that kind of interest me at Katsucon. However, my main thing is to not get my hopes too high for me not to enjoy it (after all, I almost nearly didn't go last year due to fears of the dealers' room, which wasn't as bad as I thought, and missing some of the AMV contest, which did happen, but due to a simple case of "lost and found"). Thus, for now, the only definitely plans for my trip to Katsucon next week are my usual anime convention plans: AMV contest, dealers' room, and cosplay.

When it comes to finances, things have gotten hard since I left Wal-Mart and went back to working at a local farm stand. However, I've still been able to buy a few anime DVD's and a DiGi Charat manga and still have some money for next week.

Hopefully next Saturday will be a fun one.
  • Florida Trip Highlights 2003-01-01 19:31:21 Sun: My family went to the Melbourne Flea Market. There, my younger brother bought a katana (he's been wanting one for Xmas). Then, there was a stop at Best Buy, where I bought Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for Playstation 2. That night, my parents and I went to Barnes and Noble. Somehow, I have a little bug inside of me, thus I felt a little weak during that trip to the book store. Then, it was time to watch new episodes on Adult Swim.

Mon: Morning stop: the mall, where I looked around, and it was obvious that I still had the bug inside of me. After resting for an hour, the bug was gone and I went to my next stop for the day: a local anime store. There, I bought an anime music CD and a Galaxy Fraulein Yuna action figure. That night: I went to Best Buy with my dad, and while Dad bought some stuff for Mom's new computer, I got the Back to the Future Trilogy box set on DVD (I got fullscreen due to the problems that I heard the widescreen version had).

Tues: New Year's Eve. Like all New Year's Eves for me, it was a quiet one, which I spent watching Adult Swim and identifying anime characters on the JPEG that was posted yesterday.

Today: I went to a local go-kart place. There, I played a few video games (including Soul Calibur II) and drove on two go-kart tracks. Intersting story: on the second track that I drove on, some guy decided to act like an idiot and started to drive on the course BEFORE all of the safety instructions were given. He eventually got busted and had to be escorted out of the place, but not before continuing to be a big idiot. One thing's more sure: it makes up for missing the Dave and Buster's trip last week.
  • Adventures in Hong Kong DVD's 2002-12-28 19:29:33 As I've mentioned in my last post, I saw some Hong Kong DVD's at the Daytona Flea Market. Here's my comments on the two that I picked up:

Mamotte Shugogetten: First off, the DVD that I got wasn't the first episodes, but rather somewhere in the middle. Another problem that I have is that since this is a Hong Kong DVD, that means the subtitles aren't in usual English (i.e. English subs where you have to decipher what to say) and that the same are phonetically spelled (i.e. Rishu being spelled Lei Ju). However, I would still attempt to watch the DVD, although I think I need to see the early episodes.

DiGi Charat: One major problem with the subtitles: ON THE FIRSTR DISC, IT ISN'T IN SYNC WITH THE ACTUAL ANIME (i.e. the subtitles appear before the actual animation that the subs is suppose to accompany). I want to watch the second disc, but I'm worried that there's going to be some more sub problems.

Moral of the story: I should stick to fansubs and the licensed stuff. Now if only my brother knew that (as he bought Hong Kong DVD's of titles already released in the USA).
  • The Road the Florida 2002-12-28 17:34:00 Today, I reached my grandparents' house in Florida after a two-day road trip. Here's a few comments on the trip:

-I do not want to talk about yesterday, as it was a rough time for me.

-Made my usual stop at the Daytona Flea Market today. It seems that there's a few dealers that are selling Hong Kong DVD's of anime including shows that are licensed and already have been released in the USA. My bootleg rule for DVD's: only get shows that have yet to been licensed in the US (as seen in purchasing Mamotte Shugogotten and DiGi Charat).

-Finally, I got to read the Newtype magazine that I subscribed to but, due to an address error, was sent to Florida. Somehow, my grandmother thought that the magazines were porn.

I'm probably going to make a few more comments about my Florida trip as it progresses.
  • Next Year, I'm Spending Xmas in Florida 2002-12-26 20:11:49 Tonight, my plan to go to Dave and Buster's with the rest of the anime club went awry. I got an tonight saying that due to the fact that all the cars were full, I would be unable to make the trip (I have a shorter amount of senority compared to most of the members of the club). Things would have been easy if it weren't for one thing: the fact that the e-mail was sent AFTER I LEFT HOME AND WENT TO THE USUAL MEETING PLACE FOR NIGHT TIME TRIPS.

Am I upset? Is the rival organization in Hellsing Catholic (hey, I got the third DVD today)? Especially when you consider that another anime club member was waiting for the rest of the club as well. However, considering that this would have been the last time I would have seen them before New Year's, I would probably have forgotten about this incident by the next club meeting (in fact, I'd probably would be forgetting this come tomorrow morning).

Besides, as the titles suggest, this probably wouldn't have happened if my family stuck with the usual tradition and went to Florida LAST WEEK INSTEAD OF HEADING DOWN TOMORROW.
