JOURNAL: TnAdct1 (Joseph Klemm)

  • Another Day to Rent/Buy Video Games 2002-11-22 21:41:50 Today, during lunch, I went to Toys R Us and saw a copy of the Activision Anthology for PS2. Being a fan of retro video games, I bought a copy of it. Then, I went to Blockbuster Video to rent a copy of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (I would like to try that game first before I decide whether to buy it or not).

MK:DA, as a lot people mentioned in other places, definitely marks the return of the MK franchise, which has been running weak in the past few years. While there's a few memorable parts of the MK games not in this game (i.e. Friendships), the game still has the feel that made the MK saga a huge hit in the 1990's. The only flaw is that when it comes to saving the game, you need to make a profile and type in a password for it (which is really unneccessary unless it's a fail-safe to prevent "all things unlocked" files to be transferred online). Currently, my main fighter choices are the two ninja characters (Sub-Zero and Scorpion) and new female character Li Mei. However, I am trying to save enough koins to unlock Kitana.

As for Activision Anthology, the first thing I have to say about this game: WE CAN DANCE IF WE WANT TO/ WE CAN LEAVE YOUR FRIENDS BEHIND. In other words, Vice City isn't the only video game out this year that has a soundtrack from the 1980's. As for the game itself, it's a PS2 update of the a compilation for the PS1, but with more games and a lot of things that can be unlocked, including patches, TV commercials, and different game-play modes. While the game it more for those who grew up playing these games in the 1980's (including me), it's still interesting and fun.

One other note: I also rented the first DVD of Hellsing today to see if I want to start adding that series on my "to buy" list or not. Since I have the DVD until next week, I have plenty of time to watch it.
  • The Big Two-Two 2002-11-14 22:07:55 I turned 22 today. With the exception of the birthday cake and getting some gifts (I got some video games (including an import Vib Ribbon), a couple of books, and a Star Wars Episode 2 DVD), it was just another Thursday for me. I've already tried out Vib Ribbon and one of the other games I got, and I'm starting on the third one once I finish up online.
  • Neko-Con 2002-11-10 21:43:24 I'm back from Neko-Con. The following is a few coments about the con:

-Dealers room wise, I only bought stuff on Friday (for some reason, I didn't buy anything the next two days), but I got a lot of goods that day (including the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack box set and Region 2 Laputa and Kiki DVD's).

-Friday, I only got ONE hour of sleep. Reasons for this happening can be contributed to the fact that the noon AMV contest showing was cancelled and that the fan parodies were replayed at 3:30 AM. This could probably one of the factors that led to the major headache I had Saturday night.

-AMV contest wise, it wasn't the best one I've seen when it comes to some of the videos that played at the con.

-The cosplay contest was a real hoot. Among the funnier skits include the prologue skit where Silent Bob stops Excel and Hyatt's second attempt to take over the cosplay contest, an interpretation to interpretive dance, and an Utena version of the witch trial scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

-Finally, I don't know which one was funnier: Scott Melzer's French accent as he played a round of the card game Flux with fellow con-players (including me) or Brad DeMoss on the Neko-Con version of Whose Line is It Anyway?
  • Two (or One) Day(s) Until Neko-Con 2002-11-06 22:02:31 Tomorrow is the day that I'm heading down to Virginia Beach for Neko-Con. The current plan for travel plans is for me to ride down with a fellow member of the anime club I attend tomorrow, then have my parents pick me up on Sunday (considering that I have family in Virginia Beach, that's no problem). Packing wise, I am almost ready to go. All I need to do print a couple of things out tonight and pick up my pay stub tomorrow.

As for some other things that's going on in my life:
-Another fun thing that's fun about GTA: Vice City (which I rented last Friday): heading to the golf course armed with a chainsaw. Add the golf carts that you drive there, and it's definitely a insane moment.
-The anime club I'm attending has started on Witch Hunter Robin last Sunday. So far, it looks like its going to be an interesting show. After viewing it, I had to show a web site which had a crossover featuring Witch Hunter Robin and another show that the club started on Sunday, Azumanga Daioh.
-One last anime DVD before the convention: I picked up Excel Saga vol. 3 yesterday. With that DVD, I have finally watched all 26 episodes of the show (I saw 11-26 at the anime club). As for convention: my main titles to search for are the El Hazard Box Set, Fruits Basket vol. 1, and Utena vol. 3 (since most conventions have DVD's of stuff coming out the following Tuesday, I have a feeling I may find the Utena DVD there). I also have a few other titles to look for, but these three are the main priority once the dealers' room opens on Friday.

Tomorrow is a start to a big weekend (and next Thursday is another big day for me).
  • 7 Days Until Neko-Con (Plus another Joe Taku rant) 2002-11-01 22:37:24 6 actually, if I consider going down on Thursday part of my Neko-Con trip.

I ordered the Anime Explosion book (is this the one that Big Big Truck did the cover art for?) from BarnesandNoble.com last night. Hopefully, the book will arrive before Neko-Con, as it would be a cool thing to show at the con.

DDR MAX wise, I'm getting a little bit better in Oni Mode, though I still doubt I can beat any of the courses with my current dance skills. Meanwhile, the main game is proving to be fun, with me trying to unlock MAX 300.

Today, I rented GTA: Vice City. So far, it definitely looks like a fun game. Face it, how other games would have you singing along to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" while hitting bike/motor scooter riders with yor car? I'm very interested to see what my younger brother's reaction to this game will be, since he himself is a GTA fan.

Finally, I have another Joe Taku rant, this time this is a serious one worth reading. After Cartoon Network made some good moves with the weekday schedule, it looks like the network has ended up making a MAJOR screw-up. The possible major screw-up: I've read in a few places that this Sunday's showing of Rejected has been pulled yet again. It looks like the CN censors still have a problem with "Sweet Jesus". If this is true, then I am very upset with CN for doing this. Face it, there's a whole lot of people here who are very eager to see Rejected on Sunday (heck, I bought a VHS tape so I can record that and the annual Simpsons Halloween special), and if it's true that the special will not air just because the censors are afraid of "Sweet Jesus", then CN is definitely in very, very deep trouble with the viewers. As for me, just in case this new story is true, I can currently busy downloading the short off the Internet.
