What I've Been Up To
2002-05-06 23:42:53
I haven't posted a new journal entry for a while. So, here's what I've been doing in the last few weeks.
Anime wise, I have picked up DVD's of Love Hina Vol. 2 and Metropolis. One of the good things about my latest anime purchases is that I can now see the RPG episode of Love Hina whenever I want, which is good since I'm a sucker for things that are "just right" kawaii ("painful" kawaii = anime that aired on Nick Jr. before the whole "face" thing started). As for kawaiiness in that episode, I think I've settled that kawaiiest part is infant Shinobu, although I have began to notice that chibi-Haruka does have some cuteness too.
I've also picked up DDR Konamix. While there's still a few things missing that are still only in the import version (i.e. licensed songs, Challenge Mode), the game is still a definite buy for any DDR fan, as it does have a few things that the Japanese home version doesn't have (i.e. 6-Panel steps for songs from the first three mixes, a few new mixes of some DDR songs)
At Wal-Mart, things are a little rough. Twice, the people that set up my schedule screwed up my schedule by having me work on Sundays that I have for anime club. While I have worked it out so that I'd work on a different day both times, it is still a problem that is bugging me. Hopefully, the people behind the schedule will finally get their minds straight and have me off on the days that I asked for (especially when it comes to anime conventions).
At the anime club, the club just finished up season one of Initial D. My thoughts about the show so far (as the club does plan on watching Second Stage): while the animation does need some time to get used to, Initial D is a fun ride filled with cool car races, Eurobeat music, and the occasional comedy. Also, at one meeting, the club (well those who were there, as some of the members went to Anime Central) watched the first two episodes of Fruits Baskets. It turned out to be surprisingly interesting. Personally, once one series is finished (either after Inital D is completely over or once we run out of episodes of either Rah Xephon or Full Metal Panic), I would like for the club to start that show (or possibly that new Gainax show that is airing in Japan).
Finally, I'm planning to go to Animazement with the club this year. I definitely have some ideas of what I'm going to do though one thing is still in my head: which anime box set to get (EVA, El Hazard, or Triun).

High Spirit the Last Couple of Days
2002-04-10 19:58:27
The last two days were good for me.
Yesterday, I picked up DVD's of Perfect Blue and the Slayers OVA's. I also pre-ordered DDR Konamix, so that way I can get it the day it comes out,.
Today, I got my schedule for next week, and it looks like I have a five day rest period ahead of me. That's good as it's somewhat grueling to stand eights hours a days while putting carts away and helping in stocking. Meanwhile, my Neko-Con pre-registration was sent in the mail, which save me a lot of money when it comes to pre-registering later (plus I get a shirt). Finally, my main computer is fixed, which means that I can get back to downloading videos. It's also good that the computer's back, as my dad is out of town, meaning his good laptop is with him.
Tomorrow is pay-day, and that is good. So, it looks like everything's all right in my world.

Day One at Wal-Mart
2002-04-02 19:37:48
Well, my first day at Wal-Mart wasn't as bad as I thought.
Most of the day, my duties were between learning about the store rules via computer lessons and taking shopping carts to the front of the store. Once I finish with the computer orientation stuff, the shopping cart routine will likely be my normal job at the store, which is fine since my last job did involving putting shopping carts to the front of the store. Also during my first day, I took part in the store's annual meeting and survey (since this is my first day, I couldn't comment on some stuff). Though one thing that was interesting was how a lot of females rushed to the computers in order to the finish the survey after the first meeting. After work, I picked up a copy of Legend of Dragoon for Playstation for $20 (also thought about getting Chrono Cross, but that game didn't interest me that much).
However, my day wasn't without some complaints. First off, it took me a while just to clock in since I didn't have a bar code and the problem was happening just when the store's manager is busy having a meeting. Also, when I purchased the video game, I had to wait in line behind a girl who was buying 10 sodas and a few plants in the electronics area, which clearly was a 10 items or less check-out. I also have a small problem with trying to get a discount for the game, but I decided to solve it just by paying full price for it.
So far, it doesn't seem as bad as the awful orientation procedure that I had to go through. Plus, it provides me some money to buy some video games and anime-related goods (especially with Animazement less than two months away). :)

Well Today Sure Sucked....
2002-03-29 18:30:50
Wal-Mart orientation was almost as bad as when I had to do it two years ago. According to the phone call, it was only supposed to go to 4:00 PM. Well, the people at the orientation had to have the urge to repeat some things twice, thus making orientation to run 2 1/2 hours late. To make matters worse, during this time, the people at Wal-Mart's auto center were supposed to rotate and balance the tires of my parents van. Well, during that time I was at orientation, the people who were to work on the car did nothing whatsoever. This amount of unorganization makes me question whether I should stay with Wal-Mart or quit sometime next week.
To make matters worse, the main computer that I use to go on the Internet and download AMV's has completely gone on the fritz, with the computer unable to reach a signal to the monitor. I'm allowed to use Dad's computer to go online and watch some AMV's. However, if this means that the family has to buy a new computer, then I'll be very P'O'ed as a lot of hard work that I did was on that computer (i.e. my AMV inventory, reference guides to some fanparodies, a list of some cosplay costumes from various conventions).

A Somewhat Busy Day Today...
2002-03-28 20:17:31
Today was an interesting day. I made a mall-run in the afternoon. Obviously, the first thing I did was to head directly to the DDR machine and play a few rounds of that game (can't wait for Konamix to come out next month, as well as possibly importing another DDR game (either 4th, 5th, or Extra Mix) once I get more money). While at the mall, I also picked up another Urusei Yatsura DVD (with plans to watch it on Saturday). Meanwhile, my younger brother picked up Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast. Personally, I liked that game and would love to play it again. However, the problem is that the Dreamcast is in his room, and I'm usually not allowed to be in there when he's at home (even though I was the person who bought the Dreamcast).
On the way home to the mall, my mother gave me some money as an Easter present. That's nice, as it gives be some extra money to buy some more anime while also giving me some more cash for Animazement.
Speaking of money, I call today saying that I start working at Wal-Mart tomorrow. The bad news is that I have to go through another round of orientation hell at Wal-Mart (yes, it's that bad). However, on the bright side, I now have a good part-time job that can finance me when it comes to getting items (anime DVDs, soundtracks, video games) at the conventions (especially since I would like to get an anime box set (still trying to decide which show (Eva, Trigun, El Hazard, or Fushigi Yuugi) to invest in)at Animazement and/or Otakon) while also finacing my regular non-convention anime DVD purchases (Urusei Yatsura, Love Hina, Excel Saga once it comes out).
