What a Difference One-and-a-Half Weeks Make.
2002-01-25 12:10:36
It's been a while since I did one, and since a lot of anime-related stuff happened recently to me, I personally didn't want to wait until Sunday to mention it in my journal.
I'm back to my usual AMV downloading routines, with me already downloading five videos in a one-and-a-half week period. Currently, I'm working on downloading the Key the Metal Idol "Closer" video, though the place where I'm downloading it is busy most of the time.
I went to a job evaluation last Thursday to see how much I like scanning. It turned out to be an interesting job that I may like, though the hard part may be making sure that I don't find scanning papers for six hours boring.
Checked out half of Saber Marionette J Again over the weekend (a little something to watch as my area got covered with snow). So far, I find it to be an enjoyable sequel to the original show, especially the third episode where Lime and Marine go through puberty (which was written by series creator Satoru Akahori). BTW, considering that she got a lot of good moments in the episode (plus the fact that the ED is centered around her), I think I have an idea of which Marionette Akahori prefers, though you'd probably have to watch the OVA (or read my earlier posts) to figure out with Marionette I think Akahori prefers.
I finally got my copy of the DDR Project VCD on Wednesday. Despite some minor quality problems (i.e. the capture quality in Operator isn't as good as the version that appears on Doki Doki's web page), it is still a fun Mega-AMV to watch. There were definitely a lot of fun videos in the Megamix (liked Operator (despite the capture quality on the VCD version)and Boom Boom Dollar (a good example of anime on crack)), and I'm definitely going to bring this to my anime club on Sunday in hopes of showing it either during breaks (most likely thing) or as a highlight for the meeting. Definitely can't wait for the DVD version of the Project, as well as the DDR Project 2.
That's all the information that I have for this time.

First Anime Club Meeting of the New Year
2002-01-13 19:56:44
Today, I attended my first anime club meeting of 2002, and it definitely was a lot of fun.
As usual, the meeting started off with a couple of episodes of Inital D, which would be usual except for the fact that after the first episode, the club also viewed an interview featuring some of the seiyuu of the show, with one member with a Child's Toy mallet (I wondering if the men are/were members of Weiss), followed by some Japanese car racing.
After a brief break, it was time to watch some Angelic Layer, which, as usual, was enjoyable (the episode being about Misaki's victory party, and her choice for her second). Then came some Love Hina, which also was enjoyable (can't wait to buy the special edition with box). The first one (the arrival of Kentaro) was fun, but it was the second one (the RPG dream episode) that was truly enjoyable thanks to a hilarious spoof of RPG games (as well as Godzilla and magic girl shows) and a lot of kawaii moments. BTW, which one do you guys find to be the most kawaii:
a. the Love Hina cast in chibi mode.
b. Neko-Kaolla
c. Infant Shinobu
Due to a flaw with the planned showing of a second episode of Angelic Layer (i.e. it wasn't fully downloaded), there was an extra hour to spare. Thus, people had a choice of either playing some Dance Dance Revolution 5th Mix or watching Ebichu and GALS. While I preferred DDR over GALS, I definitely watched Ebichu, and it was indeed one show I need to see more of. Face it, there's something funny in a show that features sex and a hamster (but not sex with a hamster).
Rounding out the meeting was Inu-Yasha. Personally, I am not yet that impressed with the show, though with it finally out of "getting used to the story" mode, business may pick up the next showings.
Well, today's anime club was indeed a fun one. I hope the next meeting will be as interesting.

My Xmas Break In Review
2002-01-01 17:54:30
Here's a little summary about my Xmas trip in Melbourne, FL from Dec. 26 to New Year's Day:
Obviously, with the day after Xmas, I went on a shopping trip and got the Utena DVD's (my brother somehow became a fan after seeing the Love is Flowers video) and the second Saber Marionette J DVD set. While I have to officially start on the SMJ discs yet (save for the New Year's episode and the Cherry music video), I have began on the Utena DVD's and have made it to the "curry" episode. BTW, while I'm on the topic of Utena and SMJ, I noticed that while it is hard to recognize that Wakaba and Touga's seiyuus also did Otaru and Hanagata, respectively, you can clearly tell that the seiyuu who does Nanami also does Cherry. :)
I sent my Playstation to a video game place to get it mod-chipped. Hopefully it will be done before I leave for Maryland. If not, it looks like another year with the PSX-Change and limited DDR playtime.
One good thing about Melbourne is that there's an anime shop in the area. Thus, I went there and bought some Para Para Max CD's and an Initial D soundtrack. Also while I was there, I talked to the guy running the store about anime, cosplay, and AMV's. BTW, is it true that at the AMV dance at AWA 7, they actually had Happy Boys and Girls looped several times?
Over the weekend, I took part in a huge post at rec.arts.anime.misc. The topic involved a storyline in which you had to choose three anime characters to stop a world-threaten diaster. If you want to see who I chose, either check the newsgroup or go to deja.com, however, I can tell you it's a combination of two team ideas that I had that each lacked a worthy third member.
New Year's Eve was a quiet one for me, though I did celebrate the New Year by playing Odorikurru at midnight (Perfect video for a celebration). For New Year's Day, I watched the New Year's ep of SMJ, with plans to watch Urusei Yatsura later.
Finally, thanks to my younger brother getting a video camera for Xmas, my dad is getting a capture card and video editing program to allow my younger brother to make movies. Thus, it looks like I may be becoming an AMV maker soon. All I need is more anime sources (though I do have a lot of anime DVD's) and an idea of how to make a video.
Anyway, happy new year.

Happy holidays, everyone at AMV.org. I hope you guys got everything you wanted on your Xmas list (got Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy, but no anime [I can get that myself]).

Finally Made It Florida
2001-12-23 18:57:32
Well, after two long days on the road, I finally made it to Florida. A few comments about the car ride:
-If your going to be stuck in traffic, and you're riding with friends and family, bring along a laptop with a DVD-ROM, as my younger brother and I watched some AMV's and some Saber Marionette J (Cherry is kawaii) while driving down the congested I-95. We wanted to watch the Utena movie, but it wouldn't work on the computer for some reason.
-Next time I travel somewhere, I better watch how much I drink, as too much Coke + congested traffic = the true meaning of "nature calls".
-For anyone going to Anime Express in March: definitely try to stop in the flea market in Daytona. It has some fun stores and a few places to get some anime tapes (I was able to get Super Deformed Double Feature).
More Florida comments will come as I my trip progresses.
