JOURNAL: TnAdct1 (Joseph Klemm)

  • Thanksgiving and the Day After 2001-11-23 12:41:06 Yesterday and today was a somewhat interesting time for me.

Watched some of the Macy's Parade on TV yesterday, which included the first anime character balloon, Pikachu. When the balloon appeared on TV, my thoughts when seeing it range from a joke about how a DBZ balloon would be too inappropriate as NYC is already damaged to the ending of the Pierrot Le Fou episode of Cowboy Bebop.

I downloaded MeriC's latest video, and it indeed was a fun spoof of all the bad Dragon Ball Z videos ever made. Upon seeing this, I started wondering if this will be playing in C-SMAC (the anime club I'm in) anytime soon.

My family and I went to see Harry Potter last night. Personally, while the film was okay, I felt that some of the magic (no pun intended) was missing if you've read the book, although Chris Columbus thankfully took out some of the parts that I didn't like in the book (shortened the Dursley scenes, took out the school's reaction to Harry blowing 150 points due to Hagrid's dragon).

This morning, I went shopping. I picked up a couple of video games and a Sorcerer Hunters DVD. Don't worry, I still have items on my Xmas list. Besides, when it comes to anime, I'd prefer getting it myself rather than putting it on a birthday or Xmas list.

Well, it almost a month until Xmas, and I have to start saving up for my annual trip to Florida. Thus, no more spending (unless it's a magazine or video game rental) until the family gets inside the van and heads down to Grandma's house.
  • Another Day at the Anime Club 2001-11-18 19:27:19 I went to my bi-weekly anime club meeting today. Here's some of the events that took place:

It looks like someone at the club was able to get an X-Box, which means that some people were playing DOA3 and Halo. I didn't play the system, though it has nothing to do with it being from the evil empire, Microsoft.

The club finished up watching Berserk this meeting. I'm not going to provide major spoilers, though expect the ending to be somewhat f'ed up.

Meanwhile, along with continuing with Angelic Layer (please let someone license this show in America), the club started showing Initial D and Love Hina in this meeting. While Initial D will take a few episodes to get used to, I've already begun to enjoy Love Hina. Speaking of starting new shows, I'm probably expecting the club to start either Noir or Inu-Yasha next meeting, considering that Berserk is over.

Well, Survivor Series starts in a few minutes, so I better prepare for that.
  • Well, There's Goes The Pandora's Cube Trips 2001-11-15 13:38:41 Today, I just received a phone call telling that the DOT job that was being offered to me went to another person. That somewhat sucks, as that means that, other than my part-time job at a local farm stand, I am still unemployed. However, considering that I may have to work weekends, not to mention how far (after getting off the Metro) I have to walk just to get there, it maybe isn't that bad after all.

Meanwhile, while I may not have received that job, I was offered a job at the place that tried to get the DOT job for me. The good part is that it's a weekdays only job, meaning I can have Saturdays and Sundays to myself (anime, learning to drive). However, the problem here is that the company is trying to set up an interview for next week, which is nearly impossible as my mother, who works full time at the stand, will be busy with the Thanksgiving shoppers (hopefully, that may mean that I'll get some more work hours for the week besides my usual Sunday hours). Hopefully, things will get worked out so that I can get the interview while Mom can deal with the Thanksgiving customers.

Some other things to talk about while I'm posting this journal entry:

-I watched the latest CCS DVD today. Some fun episodes on this volume, which is a a mix of Sakura/Tomoyo episodes (sleep card episode and the little card episode (after the Toyko Tower, Alice in Wonderland seems to be a recurring image in CLAMP anime)) and episodes featuring Lei and Meilin (the marathon episode and the song card episode). Next purchase CCS wise will probably be volume four.

-Personally, I will not be buying X-Box or Gamecube for another year [unless I get a lot of money before this year ends :)], and if so, I'd be buying a Gamecube.

-I definitely plan on seeing Harry Potter, after all I did read the first three books (Chamber of Secrets is the best). However, I will wait until next week to see it not because of the rush, but rather because my usual tradition of going to the movies on Thanksgiving Day (which started with Aladdin back in 1992).
  • Happy Birthday to Me 2001-11-14 23:39:36 Today (11/14) I turned 21. Besides that, the gifts, and dinner, it was a typical day.

Most of the day was spent finishing up downloading two AMV's that I was using GetRight to Download (His and Her/Far and Away and Blue Mercury).

About afternoon I broke into some anime DVD's that horded away until my birthday. Originally, my birthday list didn't have anime DVD's on the list, as I wanted to get anime on my own rather than get them for my birthday or Xmas. However, since there was no import games being sold at Neko-Con, I simply picked up some DVD's (two Cowboy Bebops and a Cardcaptor Sakura) and kept them in a box until today.

Meanwhile, though his birthday is a half a year away, my younger brother (yes even though I'm 21, I still live my parents) got Phantasy Star Online 2.0 at Toys 'R' Us while Mom did some last-minute birthday shopping. I played some of it myself, though I doubt that I'll go online to play that game.

I went to an all-you-can=eat buffet for dinner, and after getting a cake and returning home, I got the bulk of my birthday presents. One thing's for sure: the Sony PS2 remote is definitely a must-have for anime fans who use Playstation 2 to watch their anime DVD's.

Well, I am now the legal age. Drinking I doubt it, but definitely when it comes to gambling (but not all the time).
  • Riding the Metro 2001-11-12 16:51:15 Today, I spent the day riding the Metro to various places.

The first place where I stopped, as well as the main reason for doing it, was simply a trial run of what a typical day of going to where I'm supposed to be getting a temp job at, the Department of Transportation, would be like. After this trial run, which involves switching Metro trains and walking another mile to get to work, I personally feel that the DOT job isn't worth it. For starters, it's much quicker to get there by car, which is hard considering I have yet to get my driver's license (even rougher as I will be 21 on Wednesday) and my parents having jobs themselves. Add the possibility of working on weekends and the fact that I don't know that I'll even like this job and you'll see why I just don't think the job at the DOT will work for me.

On the bright side, I did stop at Best Buy after the run. There, I picked up the Utena movie while my dad got some birthday gifts for me (except for Utena, no fooling around with them until Wednesday). The only thing on my birthday list that wasn't there was Devil May Cry for Playstation 2, thus I'm uncertain if I'll be getting that or not.

That pretty much summed up my day.
