Well, This Afternoon Sure Sucks.
2001-11-08 15:36:42
I went to my job interview this afternoon. During this talk, the guy that is trying to hire me tells me that I may have to work Saturdays and Sundays. This definitely puts a major question mark on whether I should take the job or not, as I have anime club every other Sunday. Keep in mind that the problem is not that I have to work the same day as Anime Club (at my current job, I work the Sunday morning hours then head to Anime Club), but rather the fact that working Sunday not only means working after my scheduled time, which I do not want to do, but also the fact that the place where I work is far away from the Anime Club meeting place, meaning I may have to miss a meeting. The job is supposedly for 90 days, however, depending on whether I like it or not and how much pressure is put on me, I may quit early and hope to get a job at a nearby Toys 'R' Us that's opening soon.
Following the interview, I stopped at the nearby anime store to look around and hopefully buy something. Unfortunately, they didn't have what I was looking for (Utena movie on DVD and some fansub DiGi Charat).
I'm hoping that tonight will be WAY better than this afternoon.

Finally, a Good One After Two Clunkers
2001-11-06 22:30:12
Since most people are talking about their usual day via journal, I'm probably going to start doing it too.
This morning, I went over to the Annapolis Mall to replace a Dreamcast that my brother says was broken. Besides that, there wasn't that much action at the mall. I did look at the Utena movie that was (hopefully) being sold at some of the stores. However, I'm not able to buy it until tomorrow (and then, it depends on when I can find another copy of it).
I got a call from the Department of Transportation about a temp job offer that would start next week. They wanted to do the interview tomorrow, but it will probably be pushed back a back due to not having transportation to the place. In fact, transportation is one thing I'm worried about when it comes to the job, as I will have to take public trasportation to get there. On the bright side, the place is a few miles from an anime store, so I plan to stop there after the interview and hopefully find the Utena movie and a birthday gift (next week is my birthday).
I watched this year's Simpsons Halloween special, and after two years of unsuccessful tries (Y2K story in '99 and the dolphin tale in 2000 were major clunkers), the show returns to the Halloween fun that the fans are used to, with the main highlights being a tale where Homer has a gypsy's curse and a tale that spoofs Harry Potter.

Neko-Con Report
2001-10-28 20:26:18
I've just gotten back from Neko-Con. Here's my report on the convention.
While it wasn't exciting as the other AMV contests, the Neko-con AMV contest did have some highlights, specifically Senta Miller's latest video, Death, Violence, and Hate in an All-Girls Dormitory with a Hot Spring, and a video that sets a Star Trek song to Nadesico.
The Cosplay Contest could quite possibly be the best cosplay contest this year. Not only did it start on time (something Neko-Con is able to do that most conventions aren't good at), but it also have some excellent cosplay bits. Among the best:
-The opening skit, where Excel and Hyatt (from Excel Saga) try to take over the cosplay contest, only to be confronted by COBRA (the evil organization from G.I. Joe), with the cosplay contest's emcee as COBRA Commander.
-A skit which sets SDF Macross to the works of Gilbert and Sullivan (yes, there's a bit about Robotech in the skit).
-A skit where Nanami (from Utena) is beaten up by Captain Planet and the Planteers (with a tree cleaing becoming the Neko-Con equivelent to Otakon's Chair [which, in an earlier skit, beat the hell out of some DBZ characters]).
-Love and Peace Fighter 2, where Vash and Wolfwood play a video game featuring various characters ranging from Parappa to Starscream from Transformers (you should have seem Starscream at the line for the dealers' room on Friday).
I met up with Brad and Duane, and I purchased Brad's AMVs DVD. I also saw some of the DDR Project, though the hopes of it being shown it during the dance never came to be.
I saw the Utena and Cowboy Bebop movies. While I may need to see CB again (due to me seeing the 2:00 AM showing), the Utena movie had me wanting to buy the DVD, though it may be a while before I do so due to it being sold out at the dealers' room and the fact that I don't have enough money to buy it this week.
As for the Dealers' Room, I picked up some Nadesico, Cowboy Bebop, and Cardcaptor Sakrua DVD's (holding back watching all of them, except Nadesico, until my birthday (November 14) since I bought them as birthday presents for me), a Lupin III VHS tape, the DDR 5th Mix Soundtrack, and a Puchiko UFO Catcher Doll, which was definitely a popular item at the con, as many people were seen with them. Too bad they didn't have the Utena movie when I decided to get it, though I would have waited until my birthday to see it othervwise.
Neko-Con was a fun convention, and I'd probably will attend it again next year.

Neko-Con or Bust
2001-10-25 19:33:31
Tomorrow, I will be heading off to Virginia Beach for Neko-Con. I've already pre-registered for the convention, and I am very anxious to see what it is like, especially the AMV contest. Since I will be out of the state for a few days, that means there's probably going to be both a report about the convention, as well as some catching up to do Internet wise. Personally, while it hasn't even started or ended, I'd like to get back home before midnight Sunday, as I do want to see the Mushroom Samba episode of Cowboy Bebop.

Anime USA
2001-10-14 14:24:47
Yesterday, I spent the day attending Anime USA in Arlington. The trip proved to be a fun experience.
I met up with a lot of the big AMV makers during the con, including Hsein Lee, Tim Park and Duane Johnson. I talked to them a little bit and complimented them on some of their videos.
The Music Video Forum was IMO the Northeast equivelent to the AMV VAT at AWA, as it featured a lot of fun music videos (including most of the ones that I've downloaded) and an afternoon of videos hosted by Hsein, Tim, and the guy behind Maboroshi Studios (sorry, but I don't think I can spell his name by memory). The real fun came in Tim's hour, in which he not only showed all of his videos, including his new works (The Ambigously Yaoi Duo, Operator [which supposedy uses 155+ anime titles], and the WWF/Digi Charat crossover), but he also showed some hilarious AMV's and parodies as well (CCS/Metal Gear crossover, DBZ/Cucumber video, the Japanese Cosplay version of the season 1 CCS opening, etc.).
Cosplay, while short, did have a couple of noticeable skits. The first one involed Trigun's Wolfwood (played by a kid), the blond from Gundam Wing, and a FF VIII character trying to kill each other. The other was a hillarious bit about the Fox premiere of Slayers, where Gourry is now a Veemon (from Digimon) with a blonde wig and a sword. Liked the emcee's comment at the end of that skit: "Good thing Fox didn't get the rights to Cowboy Bebop".
In summary, Anime USA was a fun time. My next convention will be Neko-Con in Virgina Beach.
