JOURNAL: Katara (Matt Reppert)

  • A dozen people with their heads up their asses + inept leadership = S-1 2006-02-21 07:52:02 Yeah, they screwed me on my leave.

I was told the wrong day to report for the plane that would take me to Kuwait and ha ha ha ho ho ho, I got to wait a couple of weeks because I missed the flight out.

S-1 (who is in charge of all leave) was responsible for the mishap and of course none of them took any responsibility for the screw up.

It annoys me to no end, but hey, I get to patrol around Baghdad for awhile longer.

Have some interesting stories to tell about this place when I get back.

    Cheers,
    Katara
  • One quick note 2006-02-02 06:14:20 I wanted to thank everyone who has been watching my AMVs in my absence, I cannot properly express how much I appreciate you viewing my work and offering your opinions on it.

    Thank you,
    Katara
  • Platoon AMV 2006-02-02 06:12:31 Well, my mid tour leave was pushed from May to...just over a week from now. I literally will be at home in a few days, lucky me I will actually get to see some of the winter olympics, which I'm excited about.

I'm also getting a labtop, this will allow me to work on various writing projects as well as save the pictures I've taken of Baghdad.

Furthermore, I also plan on working on a sort of "AMV" if you will of videos that people are making of our Platoon in Baghdad, hopefully the end result is one that we shall put on our Platoon's DVD.

I also noted with interest that the 2006 AMV awards are starting soon, I always enjoyed seeing the nominees of such things. Some of my favorite videos have come from the contest and I'm excited to see what this year's crop of vids will offer.

    Cheers,
    Katara
  • Baghdad, city of interesting smells 2005-12-27 15:47:45 I've been in Baghdad for little over a week. I won't lie to you, this place smells. This is a combination of several factors.

    1. Iraqis have a habit of burning their trash.
    2. Baghdad for all intents and purposes is a VERY dirty city, worse than any American city I've seen.
    3. The warmer temperatures do little to help the smell.

Every morning when I wake up, my nose is assaulted with a plethora of smells that make me want to curse God for ever granting mankind with the ability to smell.

I've yet to go out and "mingle" but that will be happening soon. I'm not allowed to give specifics mind you because of security reasons and all that. However, you all have no idea how much I would KILL for the ability to watch some AMVs from where I am. Even more I wish I could work on some.

I've been trying to think up new video ideas and since I got some new music CDs, a few ideas have been slowly coming to mind, hopefully whenever I return, I shall make a slew of new videos.

    Cheers,
    Katara
  • Kuwait can bite me 2005-12-10 14:09:32 Greetings from Kuwait,

I hate Kuwait. I hate it for the fact that we have little to do here. I can use the internet (have to pay for it) and eat. Thats pretty much it. We're waiting for our turn into to go into Iraq and while I know when we go, I'm not allowed to say when.

Here is a little rant about me and Christmas over here.

First of all, I love christmas, love it. My favorite holiday of the year, my family is always together for christmas dinner, presents unwrapping, all that good stuff. Hell, waiting outside a Best Buy or Comp USA on black friday at 3 AM is also part of family tradition.

    Not this year.

Of course I find myself an ocean and a continent or so away from my home and while I'm down about the situation I was dealing with it until a day or two ago.

I was in the PX we have at the camp and heard christmas music.

It was then that it TRULY hit me. This literally be the first christmas I will miss with my family, and the sudden dawning of that fact, that reality made me angry.

I signed up for this, I have no illusions about this, however, you never know truly what you've lost until you hit that moment. The music was a reminder to me that one of my major enjoyments of life being stripped from me.

I discovered that alot of other guys feel this way, apparently alot of people can't stand hearing christmas music because it reminds them of home and what they had to leave behind so we could come to this sandy shit hole.

    Merry-fucking christmas Iraq.
