Everything changes November 29th
2005-11-21 19:42:05
November 29th is when I leave for Kuwait.
There we do some train up and then depart for Iraq itself sometime later. I'll be there for a year, obviously I won't be making AMVs over there.
On wed I pack up my computer and various other personal items to be put in storage. I get a four day weekend to "enjoy" despite the fact I will have NO TV, NO computer, NO Xbox or PS2.
Ugh.
But I think this will probably be my last journal entry until either I get to Iraq or get back from it.
I wanted to thank people for downloading my vids, even if they didn't like them. I know I'm not the best AMV creator, but the fact that people are willing to download something that some Joe put up on the internet and watch it, well, it means something to me.
Also, I would like to thank people that actually read this journal, I know that sometimes I'm not the most "there" type of person, but for anyone that has slugged it out and actually read this written insane asylum, well... thanks.
Cheers,
Katara

Samurai Champloo AMV
2005-11-01 01:13:05
I'm attempting to start another video, using Samurai Champloo. However I'm unsure what song to use, so I've been going through my entire MP3 directory to fish one out that will fit with the theme of the show. I want this video to be faster paced then my last one but if something slow fits, I'll use that.
Also I had to work 27 consecutive hours on Staff Duty.
Staff Duty is something the Army does to make sure nothing happens in the barracks. Daylight savings time ensured that we were going to work 25 hours instead of the normal 24, however, the PROBLEM was, was that our relief had no idea they were supposed to relieve us.
So 2 hours later, we were a bunch of happy campers, ready to murder people.
Well, thats my short little update.

Musings
2005-10-22 17:42:32
My Serenity Trailer vid is online, I actually completed it a few days ago, but spent alot of time tinkering it here and there to make sure things matched up right in it. I am quite pleased with the results.
Currently sitting on my computer right now is a folder containing every single AMV I've ever completed since I started using Adobe Premiere Programs. Its funny going through that folder which has a combination of videos that I made back as far as 2001. My FIRST videos (which date from 1998 to 2001) are not in my main AMV directory because I consider them failed expiriments nowadays and not "true" AMVs that I do now.
I look at my old videos and marvel at how far I've evolved. Not just in video quality, but in subject matter and how well I can put a video together. A few things I noticed going through the AMV folder.
- My most prolific AMV creating period was from 2002 to 2003 when I created approximately over 20 AMVs.
- The total space that all the vids I've created since 2001 is 1.52 Gigabytes
- There are 20 videos in the folder that have not premiered on the ORG
- There are 16 videos that HAVE premiered on the ORG
I must admit, there are times when I actually think to myself if I'll ever stop making AMVs? There are many people who do it as a hobby for a time, then move on to other things. Several times I've come close to that myself, for some reason or another. Honestly, I thought that joining the Army would have killed my desire to do AMVs, but regardless, I still churn one out every so often.
I've been making AMVs since I was about 16 years old, thus, I've been making AMVs for 7 years now.
7 years.
Just think about that. I've been making videos for almost a decade. I will admit that I obviously won't be making any AMVs while I'm in Iraq, but regardless, I have little doubt that I will make one as soon as I get back from the desert. I will admit that I've made some shitty videos and some ones that I, by my standards, consider spectacular.
I wouldn't trade those videos for anything, they are one of the most sacred pieces of data that I have on my computer and maybe that is why I've made them for so long. My friend and I talk about anime and we wonder if, years from now, teenagers will look back on Cowboy Bebop as I do G.I. Joe, Transformers, or other shows I treasured when I was younger.
Possibly.
At the moment, anime shows no signs of slowing down and I've been riding along on this wave for 7 years now and honestly? I wouldn't have traded it for the moon.
Heres to another 7 years.
Cheers,
Katara

Got my eyes lasered
2005-09-28 23:06:14
About a week ago, I had PRK done to my eyes. PRK is when they slice open a part of your eye and use a laser to reshape the cornea of your eyes. The procedure isn't painful and so far my vision has vastly improved over what it once was. To give you an idea here, without my glasses I couldn't read the big E on the eye chart. Now, my vision in one eye is about 20/30. So to put it mildly it is an improvement I am quite happy with.
The surgery and recovery have put up, since I had trouble reading text on my computer screen, I could neither write nor read most of the time, not to mention not even attempt to work on AMVs.
However, the time has given me the "time off" I need so to speak.
Currently, my Bebop story is six chapters and has recieved good reviews to date, as well as my Splinter Cell story which honestly, I didn't think people would much care for. I plan to update both this weekend.
Furthermore, I'm in the process of preparing to work on an AMV, I don't know what anime or even what song, I plan to start new and fresh. Hopefully, I shall stick to this one.
Furthermore, even though we haven't been given the "official" orders, we now know that our unit will deploy to Southern Baghdad sometime late November to early December.

Status of the fanfiction
2005-08-28 01:54:33
Well, so far there are three Chapters of Bebop up and two chapters of a Splinter Cell story that I wrote for a few people awhile back. Thus far I've gotten one review for the Bebop story and it was positive so I've been continuing working on it. Currently I'm midway through chapter four.
Also, I'm considering starting another video, given the fact that I cannot upload my Invader Zim video (though I did get a suggestion, much obliged for that by the way), I'm currently looking at using one of my brother's servers, if he okays it, the video could be online as early as tomorrow or Monday, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Speaking of videos, I'm slowly building up the energy to begin a new video, Im still undecided if I want to take an action route or a slow, romantic one. Romantic videos tend to be the ones I do "the best" according to most star reviews and opinions. However, I tend to get a greater sense of accomplishment when I successfully finish an action video.
I guess time will tell.
