  • omg o.o 2008-11-27 08:16:47 Airport is having a lost & found silent auction for the United Way. Basically all the items are unclaimed items that have been there for ages. It's surprising what people forget at the airport! HOW do you leave behind your plasma tv? I feel sorry for that guy, I also feel sorry for the guy who left behind 2 complete sets of skis. I'll be placing bids later today, so many items =P. However it does seem that anime fans are responsible people, as I didn't see any anime merchandise.

Sports rackets, golf sets, music keyboards, laptops, cameras, camcorders, ipods, movies, console games, a crt monitor o.o, chairs, murals... and so much more...

    Let the bidding begin =)
  • finished office shuffle... 2008-11-24 21:13:51 Most of the day was spent moving stuff from desk 1 to desk 2, and waiting for the IT guys to come take care of my computer. Some people really enjoy this move it seems... or at least making the most of it. My department has a lot of fun people, so it was pretty entertaining throughout the day.

    ---------

*Employee A throws a stack of documents into the recycle bin*
Employee A: "Haha, I've always wanted to do this"
*Smiles and pulls out letter opener and maliciously stabs documents repeatedly"

    ---------

*Employee B uses same letter opener to try to pry off a name tag off a wall*
(This name tag has been stuck in the wrong place for months)
Me: "Is that even going to come off?"
Employee B: "Grrr. Damn you adhesive engineers." (we're in the engineering department =P)
*Rips name tag off wall with so much force, almost breaking it in the process*
Me: "Oh wow, it actually came off"
Employee B: "Yeah, you mischievous engineers should find safer ways to have fun"
    Me: =)

    ---------

Employee C: "This move is so disorganized! Honestly, they should have just moved everything during the weekend so we could come in and do work in our new seats"
    *Manager walks out of office*
Manager: "Don't you start criticizing the Project Manager now!" *scowl*
Employee C: "Oh Crap!" *runs away*

    ---------

Me: "Hey, Ted (my manager), do you know where I can put this plastic wrapping? I think its recyclable"
Ted: "Hmm... Let's see" *walks over to recycling bin*
    Me: "That's paper only"
Ted: "Oh, ok" *walks over to another recycling bin*
Me: "That's for stuff to be shredded"
Ted: "Hmm... You know, just stuff it into someone's drawer and run."
    Me: ....
Ted: "Just let them deal with it then, it'll be like a pleasant surprise =)"
    Me: o.o

I ended up throwing it into the garbage, but I did wonder what would have happened if I had really stuffed and run =P

    ---------

IT Guy 1: "Alright we're here to move you computer over to this place on this map"
(Me thinking: Wait... I was only supposed to move to the next desk...)
IT Guy 2: "No, he's supposed to go over here, look at this map I have"
(Me thinking: No... that's still not where I'm supposed to move...)
IT Guy 1: "The hell? Then why does my map say this?"
    *both look at both maps*
    Me: "Ummm..."
IT Guy 1: "See, William is supposed to move over here, and Tom is supposed to take this cubicle"
IT Guy 2: "No look over here though - that's not what my map says"
    Me:: "Wait..."
    IT Guy 1: "Yeah?"
    Me: "I'm not William."
    *silence*
IT Guy 1: "omg my map is upside-down"
IT Guy 2: "oh no, I'm looking at the wrong floor"
    Me: o.o

Fun times, my department is always so entertaining =)
  • 2008-11-21 13:36:19 Office is shuffling people around... I'm moving to a new cubicle... a whole 2 feet away! So now I need to pack everything up... and throw it over to the desk next to me o.o is that really necessary... come on... =(. This also means I will no longer have a private cubicle to myself - will be sharing with 2 coworkers. I'm losing the freedom to lurk the org at work in privacy - Noooooooooo =(

Not that I 'should' be doing that in the first place =/

And something is missing from my desk... this is the problem of having papers everywhere, when someone steals something you have no idea what they took, you just know they took something because there's an empty spot on your desk. Well, it probably wasn't mine anyways.

Economy crisis finally hits home, it really was only a matter of time. Even though its a small thing that I can live with, it marks the beginning =/. And what was this sign? All co-op students were sent an email telling them to try to stay with their current employer for the next term because the economy was making many companies pull out their offers, like the auto sector. And... I can't return, my entire department has decided not to hire any more co-ops... so I'm pretty much on my own next term (like usual) except that competition is going to be a lot more fierce. Since I'm 3rd year, I'll have a better chance to find a job - I feel sorry for the first years, it's going to be tougher for them. Well, its something I can live with - even if I don't get a co-op position next term, things should still be ok for me, financially and educationally, its just going to be a bumpy ride.

And it seems some people are optimistic... saw this at a comments board about the economy: "It is always darkest before it is completely black" XD

However there are more serious issues from a friend of my family... he got laid off since he was in the auto sector along with the rest of the factory, I can only imagine things are going to get worse from here. Family and friends have so many stories of employees getting laid off and big projects being cancelled. Mind you, I'm not attempting any fear mongering here, its just that I feel that this signal was an 'open your eyes' type for me.

All the best to any who are suffering from the economic crisis.
  • 2008-11-13 20:15:44 Canada's so called "No-Call List" to block unwanted telemarketers is such a scam... I should have known it was too good to be true =/. I now get many more calls than usual, all because they now have a large list of numbers to choose from (they said they take the number and remember to block it, but really they just collect numbers). They said that all "newspapers, political parties, surveys and charities" are all exempt, meaning that these companies/organizations are allowed to call the numbers on the no-call list. Now guess what... now EVERY company is conducting 'surveys'. I used to be getting like one call per month - should have chosen to stay that way instead to keep my number secret =/

My workplace(airport) had an exercise yesterday, where they needed volunteers to be in a mock hostage situation - and the volunteers were the hostages! It was mainly training for the police and SWAT teams, but it was nice to have something out of the ordinary. They gave some volunteers roles too - like fainting or having a heart attack. Some employees were really good actors, some were just plain bad. One of the employees was so annoying I'm sure that if this had been a real situation she would have been shot a few minutes in =/. Apparently the captors and the police screwed up their script really badly too o.o BUT they told us not to be heroes otherwise we do it at our own risk. Seems last year they did something similar, one 'hostage' jumped one of the captors - now, the captors are actually fellow tactical unit members, so they're fully trained - and the captor took down the 'hostage' and went over to the bathroom to flush his head in the toilet a few times XD. Yesterday though, one employee/hostage asked "hey, I just got fired from my job for criminal acts (he was kidding... I think), can I join you guys, since I'm looking for a job in crime?" What's funny is the captor's response: "No you can't join us, but you can always join the government." XD I wonder why they said that, most of the hostages started to laugh at that point.

Speaking of government, its rather funny when you think about how many people actually want the conservatives (or any party really) in power. around 60%~70% (can't remember the number) of people voted, with 30% of them voting conservatives - which brings us to roughly 18%~21% of Canadians =O

And they tell us this 50/60/70% passing grade BS =P
