  • Creepy! 2001-10-31 11:48:04 Happy Halloween! Is it a coincidence that my wicked grandmother's birthday is on Halloween, and now she has to come over for dinner at my house to celebrate? I don't think so! it be the work of spooks, I tells ya!

    This weekend was really cool. On Saturday, my sister and boyfriend and I went to see New Found Glory play in Philly. Despite the cold, and getting lost, it was an excellent show, the best one I've been to of their's so far. The weirdest thing was when they played "Boy Crazy," the song I used for my Cowboy Bebop video, "These Girls are Crazy." how many AMV makers can say they've seen one of their video artists play their song live, huh!? Well....maybe many, heh. What do I know. In any case, it was a super fun show.

    Today, I begin work on my super big project! I hope I don't end up working on it, and then decide I hate it, and I'm stuck, cuz that ALWAYS happens to me. Arg. -_-

    Whee, my second banner won on the amv.org site voting thingie mabob. I made the Ed one. ^^
  • whoa mama! 2001-10-25 16:46:07 I'm about five shades of happy right now. Not only is my two-weeks-from-hell just about over (had two exams today, one last week, and papers in between), but I have a concert to go to on Saturday, and I'll just have more free time, which is always a good thing. As soon as I get my Utena movie DVD, I'm gonna get started on my new project, which I don't know how many months it'll take...but, it'll be fun! It's been ages since I've done a months-long project, so I'm really looking forward to getting started on my next thang.

    Weird things have been happening to me at school. People in some of my classes have been saying "Hey Meredith, I really liked your music videos!" It's odd hearing that from non-critical anime music video people, and esspecially odd hearing it from people who I didn't tell "hey you, go look at my videos!". In a way, people at school who see my stuff are the purest form of AMV viewers. No discrimination, and no analyzing of works...they just enjoy the stuff for what it is on the surface. It's kinda nice. But what's weird is that people are finding out about them. One neat thing is that since the computers are networked at my boyfriend's dorm, people have been downloading some of my videos off his machine... nice lil' promotion there! It was especially good for my ego to hear the girlfriend of my boyfriend's ex-roomate tell me on a take-out dinner line that she saw a vid of mine and liked it. OOOHH! I be feeling GOOOOD right now! I guess the point is...I finally feel motivated to do something. As people close to me know, I get very frustrated when I do amv's, and I loose a lot of self-confidence over time. But situations like these help me remember what the whole point of making amvs is: it's fun, and people like to watch them!

    So, I'm addicted to Crazy Taxi 2. It's terrible. I was supposed to study for my Java programming exam yesterday, and a geography exam (which I did do eventually), but I got caught up in that damn game! I'm not used to playing video games that much. I will play Capcom vs. SNK with mah boys every few days, but usually no more than a few minutes. Yesterday though, was a different story! Collecting all those little people, and taking them to stores "Take me to Burger King!" is just so damn fun, I played for hours on end. It was totally sick! My hands hurt after that. Man, I really am not accustomed to game playing for an extended period of time. I think the reason I was hooked on it was because I didn't want to keep getting "class D" licences. But, after a few hours, I finally got an A class license! Oh, the joy, the bliss...the throbbing pain in my non-gamers hands! I really am a wimp, but it was worth it! I never wanna see a Dreamcast for a loooong time, though. Well, maybe at least until tomorrow.

    Tomorrow is the weekly meeting of the Rutgers Anime Club. I must say, my school does have a nice, large anime fan base. I guess it's only logical that there be an anime club, although I'm not sure why it took me 2 years to realize that there was one. O_o people are supposed to dress up tomorrow, kinda for a Halloween party. I'm curious to see if any one will actually do so. Knowing Rutgers Otaku, they probably will. I won't be, but I'll be sure to bring a camera or something, hehehe....eeeeevil.

    Well, no more procrastinating for me. I just feel like writing bs before sitting down to write...a...paper....waah! Gotta take the fun stuff with the work, right? Right! Nekocon is this weekend, and my friends Jon and Scott Melzer are going. I wish I could go too, but I'm saving up for Katsucon. :( My Cowboy Bebop music video "These Girls Are Crazy" http://www.animemusicvideos.org/video.php?v=2566, will be shown there, as well as my man Mike "VegettoEX" LaBrie's Kiko-chan's Smile video, and my friend Jon's excellent EVA video. Whoa! Neat! OK, time for me to book.
  • Late night madness 2001-10-18 02:43:11 It's friggin' 2:40 am. What the hell am I still doing awake when I got Programming in the morning!? Anywho, I just read something turboneko wrote that kinda sparked something in my mind that I've been meaning to write.

    Many many months ago, before the complete and total onslaught of Linkin park / DBZ videos, I had many requests from fans of my site asking if I could do a Linkin Park video. Naturally, not being a fan of rock, and, knowing that this was becomming a trend, I declined. But, after months of thinking about it, and constant whining...er...requests from visitors, I decided to give it a shot. After completing the video not only did I discover that I really *did* like Linkin Park (never thought *that* would happen), but the video that came out of the experience remains one of my favorites. So what am I getting at? I'm thinking... knowing how over-done that pairing of DBZ and Linkin Park is now compared to what it was when I released that vid (and I *did* make that video knowing full-well that the concept was over done, ick.)...wow, I'm glad I made it when I did! I mean damn, months ago, I thought the sheer volume of those types of videos was a lot, but now, it's beyond comprehension! (or maybe just my comprehension. I can't think straight when dead tired) I'm sure it sounds silly, but when I think about it... if I were to release that video today, I'm sure no one would care to look at it. "What? Another DBZ Linkin Park vid!? Say it ain't so!" I know I don't download any Linkin Park DBZ videos...and I'm a fan of the series! However I'm sure there is excellent stuff out there, so I'm sure I'm missing out. And that's a damn shame. ;_;
    Moralof today's story: timing is everything! Trends be bad! If ya wanna do a trendy video, do it before the trend hits full force, or wait it out! The end! I go sleep now.
  • What a difference an MPEG makes! 2001-10-14 16:10:17 Kinda taking a break from writing a paper to go to the amv site...

    I just wanted to note a random observation, before I forget! Yesterday, I realized that one of my lised music videos here was an old RealVideo file (the only RealVideo music video I have listed in my profile on this site)! YUCK! Since we all know that RealVideo files are he devil, I decided to upload a MPEG version of this particular video, and post it in my profile. Daaayum, what a difference a file change makes! Despite the fact that this video is months and months old, and therefore, was not re0listed or anything, it's gotten 2 new opinions in one day, and a dozen downloads. This is a very interesting case study, indeed. Man, I'm ashamed that I used to live and die by RealVideo encodings back in the day. Makes me feel icky. -_- Moral of today's story: If you MPEG encode it, they will come! RealVideo, bad bad bad!

    OK, time to cut the crap and get back to writing this paper. Social Informatics: Bad bad bad!
  • Insert witty title here 2001-10-13 22:37:44 Hmm, now this is peculiar. My member profile just got over 1000 views. O_o Big numbers...can't believe that there are that many people out there checking my shiznit out. Neato.

    The other day, I had an epiphany in my car! Hmm mmm, dat's right! it's so weird, I always get my best music video idea in my car, or in the shower....anywho, I was stuck in traffic for about an hour and a half, when I heard a song I had burned for myself on CD. I realized that it would really make for a spiffy music video, and now I just can't wait to get started on it! Problem is...next two weeks are gonna be *insane*. I can probably begin on little bits and pieces of a preliminary version of it, but can't do anything major for now. I'm kinda torqued...i actually really wanna get started on this one. I mean, I've had a few other ideas in my head for many months, but when an idea hits me without warning, and I really feel like it can work, I like to get it made quickly, while the idea is fresh. However, with what I have in mind, this thing might take all of Autumn to complete. Hell, that's OK...the challenge...'tis exciting! Muwahaha! *ahem* So yeah, moral of the story: get good AMV ideas in traffic jams!

    Ewww, I just noticed a bug in my room. Time to go squishy squishy!
